Great video! Whenever I fly long haul, I wear a regular watch that I set at the time of wherever I am flying to. That really helps me with deciding when to try to sleep. My flight next year to new Zealand I paid extra for Air New Zealand’s economy sleep couch, where you get an entire row to yourself and it is set in such a way that the leg rests come up and you get a lie flat couch. You were very lucky to have no one next to you!
I’m very lucky as I’ve been a shift worker for 27 years. I’m used to sleeping at all times of the day or night, and I survive quite well on broken sleep or naps. But the game changer for me re jet lag is electrolytes. Even flying from Europe to Australia, 24 hours travel time, I didn’t get jet lag. Hydrate and electrolytes- always. 💗🇦🇺
I am in love with then plane bag. I heard about it in one of your videos and did it for a trip I just took to Ireland. Game changer. Packed one for my husband too and he loved it too. Made life so much easier.
This was probably one of my fav videos of yours. I love your approach to travel and I am totally using your list for what you pack in your in flight bag. I always forget pens 😂
Lauren, that was a great video! I especially love the encouragement to stretch even if you feel awkward. You're right it is important. Staying hydrated is important too. I can never get enough water in flight if I don't bring my own and then land with a horrible headache.
You have such a great attitude. That is what I love about your vlogs. Instead of dreading your long haul flight, you view it as a time to relax, watch movies, etc, Attitude makes all the difference. Your vlogs are so informative and well put together. Thank you!!!
Thanks for this content. I have a solo trip coming up in January 2025 from Vancouver, Canada to Kenya (with a 2hr stop in Paris). Total travel time is 22hr to Kenya & then 23hrs when I return home. I am SOOOO looking forward to getting to my destination. ⛺️🐘🦁🎉. When I was young the flight would have been fun too….but, now that I’m 53 years old, I’m not looking forward to being pinned into the now much smaller economy seats than days of old and the jetlag….which is worse when you are my age. But, I’m not complaining cause I have waited all my life to do this bucketlist trip! ❤ So, I will take a look at your jetlag post. Thanks! Really hope you enjoy my home country & my peeps treat you well! 🇦🇺
Loved your tips. I’m flying to Japan in a few weeks and the long flight + jet lag is stressing me out. I will definitely try the sleeping schedule and the travel case!
I found your channel looking for merino travel wear reviews and just subscribed. I have a long haul flight coming up from LAX to Micronesia in a few months (scuba vacation) and I've done it before, but it's a real slog in economy AND there are several plane changes AND I'm 5'10" like you! :) This was such a helpful video, it gave me some tips I never thought of and also reminded me of some things I'd forgotten. I think my trip is going to go more smoothly now and I'm not dreading the long flights as much. :) I hope you enjoyed Sydney, I was there about 20 years ago and it's probably my favorite city in the whole world. I don't usually try too hard to avoid jet lag, but I think this time I'm going to follow your trips and try to be more purposeful in how I prepare!
Thankyou for the tip on surviving jet lag. We have a 14hr long haul flight coming up next week in economy and I feel a little better equipped to manage. :)
We're heading to Athens with a 12 hour layover in Amsterdam. I love your tip about calculating backwards. It would be nice to be alert for our day in Amsterdam.
I am definitely spoiled, majority of flights that are 5 hours or more, we fly business or first class. To keep the cost of the flight down, we usually book well in advance, like months. Because the class of service I normally do not take neck pillows, and a lot of the things you find in amenity kits, that turned out to be a big mistake on our flights from Los Angeles to Toronto on Air Canada, both our flights ended up with no kits, seats were regular seat just a little wider, so could not sleep on the overnighter. Once we landed we had an 8/hour drive back through New York (long story). Needless to say we were extremely tired as we didn’t sleep well. We had packed our toiletries in carry on, not personal bag, so did not want to take down our bigger bag, waited until we left the plane. From now on will pack at minimum stuff to grab for the flight, even a Wisp. 😂😂😊😊
Lauren, I loved this video. Although I do not have any long haul flight planned ( my longest is 9 hours to Heathrow) but I did love the idea of cinch pants! I’m 67 and have been flying since age 4; why didn’t I think of that? I most likely won’t wear them out and about, but on the plane I will. Thanks for all the information you have given me for quite some time now…..
Great video! I’ll be saving it to refer to. Next Spring my husband and I are flying to Sydney so this video is perfect. By the way, former Michigander here…from Lansing originally. I moved south about 20 years ago. 😊
Thank you for the tips. We are flying to New Zealand in November. My first long haul flight. I have flown to Switzerland from Oklahoma before, but this will be my first to the other side of the globe. I think it is a 13 hour flight from LA.
I also hate the Trtl pillow (it just folds in half and doesn't hold my head up at all?) but everyone else seems to love it so I was delighted to hear you also don't like it 😂
It chokes me and is so claustrophobic! Plus, it’s an akward curve so it doesn’t even pack well! Traveling for 3 weeks but only needing it for 2 days, makes me crazy!
Are the cinch pants the same as the joggers in your Amazon Travel Essential items? If not, could you please provide a link? Love your videos. Practical ideas & fun to watch.
I am going on a trip soon and want to be as minimal as possible with my toiletries. I swear they take up almost half of my carry on! I've got to know, how do you always pack carry on for long trips and your toiletries not take up a ton of space?
I have several videos about packing toiletries on the channel, including how to minimize liquids, and 2 “what’s in my toiletries bag” videos during my travels :)
Could you talk about how you sleep and figure out when to sleep when you are on the way home gaining a day or so? Interested to hear! Recently came home from Greece 11.5 hour flight and stayed up to adjust here landing at 5:00pm. It took 4 days for me not to wake up at 4:00am!!
It would be the same math- do what you should be doing in the time zone you’re traveling to :) if you land at 7pm and want to go home when you arrive home, you shouldn’t sleep, or should be minimal. My trips are so busy, I usually sleep the entire way back and when I get home 😂
This was a great video! Thank you so much for all these tips for long haul flights. I will be going to Japan in late March with my 12 years old grandson and knowing this is helpful. I hope you had the best of time in Sydney and New Guinea!

I looked that up when you said it last time! I can’t wait to hear how you like it!
Watched this video instantly. First international trip. Never been on a long haul flight before. Appreciate the information!
Thanks for watching! Hope it helps!

So much easier! I’m glad it worked well for you guys!
This was probably one of my fav videos of yours. I love your approach to travel and I am totally using your list for what you pack in your in flight bag. I always forget pens 😂
Strategizing your sleep schedule sounds like a game changer! I’m taking a long haul flight next week, so I’m going to have to do the math on it.
You got this! It really helps :)
the chances that you made this video three days before i jet off to Seoul for the first time from toronto, direct its about 15 hours, is amazing
You are a wealth of information ❤

Yes! Thank you! It’s so true

Pants that cìnch at the ankles. Genius! I never would have thought of that. And, I love your glasses!
Thank you!

I always love your videos, Lauren! Thanks for the tips and for taking us along on those flights!

Great video! I have a long haul in Feb and will definitely use this!
Have a fabulous time!

My family and I are flying JFK to SYD in December, you’re video has really helped me with planning, thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful! Have fun!
Perfect timing. I take my first long hauls flight to Johannesburg South Africa soon
Welcome to Australia!!!
I would love a long haul flight to be that empty. Great video!
I LOVE HEXASORT!!! 😂
We are so addicted!

I have an old pair from old navy on in this video. I show them in most of my packing videos! But any cinched pants will work!
I am going on a trip soon and want to be as minimal as possible with my toiletries. I swear they take up almost half of my carry on! I've got to know, how do you always pack carry on for long trips and your toiletries not take up a ton of space?

Missed you
I love yiu so much
Manually set the time zone in your phone/ipad/etc before you go into airplane mode
Looking for the link to the neck pillow - but seem to be missing it....HELP!! Thank you!
Sorry about that- here you go! amzn.to/3NgHBwT

What is the pillow you used in the video. You only have the trtl one in your Amazon store
Here’s the link! amzn.to/3NgHBwT
I like your glasses but I don’t see a link?
About to start the video, I'm guessing you won't advise extra spicy chili.
Correct, but I did have spicy noodles on the way back!
I had the WORST ever in my 50+years of traveling long haul flight. I developed Trauma from it!!
My butt always gets really sore
Mine too :(
There is just surviving on long haul.
