White Les Pauls are things of beauty. For me, it was seeing James Dean Bradfield rock one with the Manic Street Preachers in my teenage years. That never went away for me. Eventually I got a white LP of my own. An Edwards, essentially a subsidiary of ESP, but it's a Les Paul as opposed to an Eclipse. I replaced the pickups a few years ago with Bare Knuckle Emeralds and now I wouldn't be without it. Plugged into my Marshall DSL5C or Orange Tiny Terror, it's instant Manics/Pistols!
I think for me it was Randy Rhoads but I didn't know what the guitar was and then later when I was 16 at T in The Park 2003 I saw The Darkness. That's about the time they were charting and Justin Hawkins usually plays one.
Guitar is beautiful, your playing there are no words that can describe your playing. You are at a level that very few people in this world can reach. Thanks for sharing with us.

I have exact same model but a “14. So glad someone has same love for that neck shape, it’s phenomenal. I went into my local shop after a burst Love rock and none of them matched up to this. Great playing Dave
I was in Denmark Street yesterday just having a nose about on my way to meeting a friend for a few beers and one of the shops had a whole bunch of Tokai guitars in, one of which was the black version of this and I have to say it really stood out. They all looked great to be honest but this one looked the absolute business! I didn't dare ask to play it as I think the credit card would have taken a bashing if I did, and I would have had to lug it around London all night in busy bars, but it really got me thinking. I've been watching your videos for a very long time, and have such a respect for your passion and playing, so now I've seen how chuffed you are with yours I'm thinking this is something I should certainly be more than considering. Kinda wish I'd had a little go on it now. Thanks for posting this man, be safe :)

My epiphone standard 50's is around 10 lbs and I think you've inspired me to grab a Bass strap. Beautiful Guitar Dave...can't imagine a person that deserves it more than you. That Les Paul is in the best home it could be in where it'll be used often.
Lovely guitar, I am lucky enough to own a 60's re-issue LP standard that I absolutely love and waited 20 years to get it. I was in a music shop buying an amp and wanted to try something similar to my LP to make sure I really liked humbuckers through the amp. The shop stocked Tokai LP style guitars so I tried one......yep they are awesome, its crazy but they are closer to feeling and playing like a Gibson than any Epiphone version that I have tried! You only started playing in 2002! I started around Easter 1970! I’ve got a Tokai Love Rock Les Paul (the cheaper variety of Tokai?). It’s quite good. In my local guitar shop, I played a genuine Tokai Les Paul (Japan?). It was as good, or better than any Gibson I ever tried. To all intents and purposes, it was flawless.

Well that end jam put me right to sleep closed my eyes out. And the j I blazed watching the first half might of had something to do with that too. Lol. I also got my 83 gibson challenger 2 back after 6 months . New frets ,cleaned, all still original besides the frets n strings . It's a new aged silver to gold color 2021 gibson challenger 2 . It rocks.

I'm with you on the Tokai love Dave. I always wanted a Gibson Les Paul, tried a few but couldn't find one that said, 'take me home'. I was in Jimi's Guitar Shop in Dublin tried a secondhand Tokai Love Rock he there and that was it. I can't say exactly what it is but it seems to have it's own mojo, love it.

I'm getting a Japanese made one of these probably on Monday as a little birthday gift. Super excited to see how it stacks up at the price point and I vaguely remembered seeing your post of this guitar so I've been waiting for this demo. If it lives up to the Tokai reputation, I think I might need to add one of their black strats to the wishlist too.
@Puddle5ofMud ! Took a bit longer than expected to get it because FedEx, but it's a really nice guitar. The assymetric neck is a bit funky but very comfortable. Not super fat, but still a nice handful. Switches, knobs, and tuners all feel high quality. Mine has a little ding on the side of the neck, but that's about it for flaws. The finish also needs to be worn a bit because it's kind of sticky against clothes when sitting with it, but the neck seems fine, weirdly. Action also needed to be raised a bit on the higher strings because it was like 1 mm and fretted out on some high bends. The model is a LC 136S by the way

Bought one of those in ‘95… Awesome guitar. Had a ‘79 Reborn Old an 05 Love Rock and a LS1 Customshop R8… Currently have a ES224 335. Fabulous quality that Gibson can only dream of…..and with the 2 grand you save on a Gibson Customshop get yourself a new Tweed Deluxe……..Well done Dave…. I just love Tokai
I am so happy for you! That’s a Chinese one. I have 3 Tokais - a Chinese SG Custom, a Japanese SG Standard, and a Japanese Goldtop LP w/p90s. They all are great and play wonderfully. The MIJ just have better electronics.
As always, very constructive and interesting video (especially, the impressions Epiphone LP VS Tokai LP)... I'd have always thought (I don't know why, and I'm realising I might be wrong) that, in white, Dave Simpson would have chosen an SG Custom style better than an LP; but it never knows, maybe that was the right guitar in the right place at the right time... Great performance, warm and pleasant sound... Thumbs up...
About 6 years ago I bought a White Chibson Les Paul Custon and LOVED it. I ended up giving it to my older Brother who helped me financially a few years ago and He is in Love with it!! Fortunately I still have another one which is a Purple Les Paul Custom. I'm thinking about changing the microphonic pickups to something much better...
So many comments I'm reading saying something similar like: "that the guitar sounds great." Nope...it's Dave making that Tokai sing to us. Looks great on you also. 😎 Although, I've got a white strat, I've been waiting on an ebony Tokai LP to crop up out here, although I can find most other colours. To own as white LP, I'd need to be a seriously good player & then perhaps I could see myself with one. 😆 Great vibe...cheers mon. 🎸🎸🎸
White Les Pauls are the bomb! Buck Dharma and Bachman Turner Overdrive did it for me (old clips). They are a thing of beauty! Especially in Dave's hands.
Tokai is a good substitute for the Gibson. Keep in mind Les was making guitars with Epiphone before Gibson. So no more stigma. I own a couple of Epiphones which I love. For me it's all about the neck and overall feel. I think I'll play my walnut Epiphone for the next few days. I am a Blues player who love's all your videos. Thanks for the inspiration.

Tokai Strat and LP proud owner as well ;) they age gracefully too and are solid : my flamed blue 1998 MIJ Love Rock LS-75 once fell on my oil electric heater and the headstock didn't break, just a wee dent on the varnish lol!
I own a black tokai les Paul custom, the best guitar I ever had! The sound of the. Guitar is just amazing, even unplugged just playing, it's sounds amazing! I do not know if it's the woods, or the whole construction of the guitar, but to my ears, sounds great. I had also an epiphone les Paul standard, I was playing the epi, for let's say half an hour, and it sounded alright a nice epi les paul, as I was changing guitars, the tokai sounded wayyyy more better than the epi, no. Matter how many times I did that "changing guitars" the tokai sounded better, to my ears of course. I sold the epiphone right away!!!!!

I'd have always thought (I don't know why, and I'm realising I might be wrong) that, in white, Dave Simpson would have chosen an SG Custom style better than an LP; but it never knows, maybe that was the right guitar in the right place at the right time...

About 6 years ago I bought a White Chibson Les Paul Custon and LOVED it. I ended up giving it to my older Brother who helped me financially a few years ago and He is in Love with it!! Fortunately I still have another one which is a Purple Les Paul Custom. I'm thinking about changing the microphonic pickups to something much better...

Although, I've got a white strat, I've been waiting on an ebony Tokai LP to crop up out here, although I can find most other colours. To own as white LP, I'd need to be a seriously good player & then perhaps I could see myself with one. 😆

White Les Pauls are the bomb! Buck Dharma and Bachman Turner Overdrive did it for me (old clips). They are a thing of beauty! Especially in Dave's hands.

Tokai is a good substitute for the Gibson. Keep in mind Les was making guitars with Epiphone before Gibson. So no more stigma. I own a couple of Epiphones which I love. For me it's all about the neck and overall feel. I think I'll play my walnut Epiphone for the next few days. I am a Blues player who love's all your videos. Thanks for the inspiration.

they age gracefully too and are solid : my flamed blue 1998 MIJ Love Rock LS-75 once fell on my oil electric heater and the headstock didn't break, just a wee dent on the varnish lol!

I own a black tokai les Paul custom, the best guitar I ever had! The sound of the. Guitar is just amazing, even unplugged just playing, it's sounds amazing! I do not know if it's the woods, or the whole construction of the guitar, but to my ears, sounds great. I had also an epiphone les Paul standard, I was playing the epi, for let's say half an hour, and it sounded alright a nice epi les paul, as I was changing guitars, the tokai sounded wayyyy more better than the epi, no. Matter how many times I did that "changing guitars" the tokai sounded better, to my ears of course. I sold the epiphone right away!!!!!
