I picked up one of these a few years back - closest thing I’ll get to a birth year guitar without selling a kidney! The previous owner added Gibson tuners and a Bare Knuckle ‘Mississippi Queen’ pickup; it’s an absolute beast!

Got my Katana this morning. Worth the Wait. I love it. Can't wait to go to the band room and rock out.

Congratulations on your Katana. Love my 50W MkII. I’ve been running it lately with the Master Volume turned almost all the way up and using my guitar volume for control. Doing it this way seems to have changed things quite a bit for the better. Just a suggestion.
      Keep playing.

@@stevelaferney3579 I'll keep that in mind I got the 100watt. My wife got it for me. Wanted to have the foot switch and the effects loop. still trying to build some patches need to go back to the tone studio video and get Dave's settings for his main sounds.

Dave I noticed that the bridge/tailpiece is old and for guitars that were setup with a wrapped G string, so that is why you are/may be having tuning problems. You can tell this by looking at where the G string would sit on the tailpiece, it should be sitting BEHIND where the D string sits on the tailpiece and NOT in front of it...hence the tuning issues. Just swap it for an updated one so that the intonation works. I had the same issue on a Gibson Maestro Les Paul Junior that I turned into a regular junior. I hope this helps!

Back in the 80s my friend had an Arbiter
    Sg..with wammy .
    It was a 70s job.
    Couldn't tell the difference.
After a session he would leave it at my place...
I couldn't keep my hands of it...

Ooh, he's gone all Porcupine Tree again! Fantastic playing, great sounding instrument. The neck looks almost identical size and dimension-wise to my MK Patriot and it's a joy. Glad you finally plugged this gap sir :)

You are so lucky to get that mate. I used to have one alongside a Kasuga SG that had the tree of life inlay on the neck and carved vine leaves on the body.
I bought both of them for about £160.00 about 1980

Blinkin bloody brilliant compositon, improvisation, touch and control AND P90s or derivatives thereof are the bloody finest guitar pickups ever! A cross between a classic single coil and humbucker giving the best of both worlds imho. Love 'em. Cheers, Dave. Rock on you fine guitar man.

Cheers Dave great vid and awesome playing my friend as always. P90s are just in a different world, single coil yet not sounding as shrill, not a humbucker yet can get that creamy feel. What they do have is balls, clarity and a totally awesome sound especially in the hands of folk like yourself. I bought an Epiphone LP special some time back just for the P90s and man its a great guitar and a great sound! Falls straight between the lines of a strat or an LP or other humbucker derived guitar. Great stuff :)

The wrapover bridge is likely original because it is intended for a wound 'G' string - the 'saddle' for the G string is forward of the D saddle whereas for a plain G it should be further back than the D saddle (if that makes sense). that would also contribute to poor intonation.

  • @malcolmhardwick4258

I've seen a few of these 70's Japanese Lawsuit guitars I've bee curious about them it would be a decent investment Dave to get the frets redone, it sounds great, I love P90's they have their own character, but I know with my 3 in my Vintage V6P guitar sometimes it's like taming a beast but once you get those P90's right they sing , oh Dave I believe your heading the Flying Circus in Newark soon, close to me umm, got to check you and band out ,

  • @zebulon39u

Dave, I always thought that the Gibson Les Paul Junior, or any of its copies, was the ultimate punk rock guitar. Just one pickup, one tone control and one volume control and it looks so cool. It was small and light, just what was needed to pogo for an hour... and no more. No self-respecting punk band had enough "repertoire" to play for more than one hour. "Repertoire" was for middle-class students. Punk bands just had a few tunes to shove in yer face.

Nice slide work, been doing a bit of that myself. I bought a Gibson LP junior double cut a couple years ago. Single P90 bridge and a wraparound bridge. Love it and play it a lot. Got my eye on a single cut junior tv yellow though. And a Yamaha Revstar. Great sounds as usual, thank you…
How TF do you acquire so much gear? I mean I have through the years acquired quite a bit myself but I feel I’m behind the curve so to speak. Just curious I guess as long as I’ve been doing this I was only able to really start taking things in the last ten years or so. Before that was a struggle to keep equipment and guitars. Thanks again

Hi Dave, have you ever tried the Vox Adio Air GT modelling amp?

  • @Innerspace100

That thing actually sounds more like a Telecaster than a Les Paul, which is not a given for these (Most P90 guitars I've had my hands on, including Juniors and Specials, have definately sounded like Gibsons). And being a person that rather strongly tend to prefer the Fender sound in most applications, that's a good thing. I think that's why I like Jimmy Page's Les Paul sound when he mucks about with his phase/coil split (or whatever it is) thing, and why I like the Peter Green-esque neck pick-up mod you showed earlier; they remind me of Fender.
I'd like to get my hands on a 335 with those Duncan Filtertrons that are made to fit into a full size humbucking route. I think that would be an intriguing proposition.

    • @CloseToTheEdge89
      @CloseToTheEdge89 ปีที่แล้ว

That's because he never cranked it up properly. And a single coil P90 is cleaner than a twin like an early SG.

The Schallers are definitely not original, they came with some no-name cheap crap, I have an Arbiter Les Paul Double Cut Junior from '72, an awsome guitar but squeals like f**k at stage volumes, always did. One day I'll replace the pickup. But for home use spot on. Had a few Arbiters over they early years including a '67 Vee and a twin neck - £167 back then! with a hard case.
