Lyrics:
Lover, I'm off the streets
I'm gonna go where the bright lights
And the big city meet
With a red guitar, on fire
Desire.
She's the candle burnin' in my room
Yeah, I'm like the needle
The needle and spoon
Over the counter, with a shotgun
Pretty soon, everybody's got one
I'm in a fever, when I'm beside her
Desire
Desire.
And the fever, gettin' higher
Desire
Desire.
(Burning, burning).
She's the dollars
She's my protection
Yeah, she's the promise
In the year of election.
Sister I can't let you go
Like a preacher stealin' hearts at a travellin' show
For love or money, money, money... ?
And the fever, gettin' higher.
Desire. - เพลง
"Rattle and Hum" is very underrated. Just to start, "Desire" and "Angel of Harlem" are among U2's greatest songs, in my opinion. The other studio tracks are also strong. "All I Want is You", for instance, is beautiful. I also really like "Van Diemen's Land". And the live part is good too. The covers were well chosen and came out great. U2 was at its peak. Ambitious? Yes. But the result is a fine companion piece to "The Joshua Tree". I think the album aged very well.
I have the CD "Rattle And Hum" and the last new one they came out with "Songs of Experience". "Desire" is my favorite song. It got me hooked on them. I love their songs. There's nothing nasty in them.
1988, filmed in Los Angeles. Great year for Dodgers and Lakers, U2 with great music, i was a teen, times were awesome back then
There are two kinds of people in this world: the ones who love U2 and the ones who are wrong.
xD
I guess I'm wrong. They always struck me as bombastic and egotistical, never as good as their press said they were.
His voice just belts it out in this song. The chemistry in this band is phenomenal! Best in the world hands down!
After INXS 😉
U2 is a religion of its own and a science
😂pfffft
Can u prove that outside of myopic vision?
Like a preacher stealing hearts at a traveling show. For the love of money money money money ... DESIRE! What powerful visual words!
One of my top 5 favorite U2 songs. And it's best if you crank up the volume on this one!
Yes, Wire and Two Hearts Beat As One are roll down the windows and crank up the volume songs for me
oh yeah. desire, new years day, unforgettable fire, and i will follow are my favorites!
War is one of my all time faves also.
What a tune,even all these years later.absolute class 👌👏

Don't know why Rattle and Hum got a bad rap. It's a great album.
one the 1980's best albums
Totally agree
I don’t know why it got a bad rap either. I agree it’s a great album.
It did? It is difficult to follow up the success of Joshua Tree.
Critics are corrupt and useless...professional ones that is. Always have been and always will be. Lollollollollol
Hendrix bridged the gap between rock and blues. U2 never gets credit for what they did for music. They bridged the gap between rock, blues, pop, classical, opera, gospel, and middle eastern. This band had the talent of bringing out simplicity of virtually anything, and making it sound great!
Facts
danielsonnv Amen to that!
When did they do middle eastern?
@@elijahshuler9985 Mysterious ways?,,.

The greatest gift is DESIRE.
Bono sang the crap out of this song! I love it
Bono will be playing Clay Calloway in the movie Sing 2 December 22nd in movie theaters
"Over the counter with a shotgun

best u2 song. harmonica takes you out
A masterpiece for the ages.
The world is a better place with U2
The greatest gift is DESIRE.
I love U2 and I don't like people who understimate this amazing band!
The greatest gift is DESIRE.
I never get sick of this 1980s rock track! No other cut from U2 strikes me as hard as "Desire" does! This is one that I enjoy thoroughly performing during karaoke rounds!
Bono says it wasn't long after this song that he and his wife had their first baby. "So it worked," he said. Something like that, in an interview.
❤τγγγ
Let me describe the greatest moment of my life. Before Christmas, I saw Imelda May at the 02 in Dublin. At one point she says: "Right, I'm gonna give this one a go!" Her band starts playing "Desire" and FUCKING BONO runs out onto the stage! Nobody saw it coming! My heart skips a beat and the roof comes off the place. The sweetest part is that I was right up the front, so I was 10 feet from Bono!
I like that story!
I was saved by Jesus Christ
what a sad peak
Kevin Carney Was that really the greatest moment of your life? It sounds so incredibly sad that there weren't better things to tell from your own life a that point. I hope you did better things in the last years yourself so you can laugh now at the importance you gave to that anecdote.
@@carlotapuig - EXACTLY - what a "shallow" life... boner for bono
Sounds so good after 25 years!
In my opinion it's one of the best songs ever
I love U2 and I don't like people who understimate this amazing band!
The greatest gift is DESIRE.
The best U2 song.
I love U2 and I don't like people who understimate this amazing band!
This song is great and U2 used to be an amazing band but from "Zoropa" they mostly released weak or crap albums.
TheRunner75 that's just your opinion, IMO "Pop" and "No line on the Horizon" are ones of their best albums...
Desire Is THE SONG who told's me : HO YES!!!! OK!!!!! Who is this Song Writter????Witch Group it is????U2??I don't know them.....(I was 10year's old in 1988......)But,In 1988, It was So Perfect.........U2 was on The bebinning........Like ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anthony No Line On The Horizon is probably The Best U2 Album I ever Heard.....Fantastic's Album.....
One Day,In A Interwiew,I saw Bono explaining that THE BEST OF U2 DOESN'T STILL EXIST....It was In 2002(Superstar man.....).I Hope Bono was RIGHT!!!!.....
Great poetry, great ENERGY. Rock n roll and the universal human condition.
I was 10 when this came out and it gives me the same feeling now as I had then...I remember where I was, my friends, my days, my foes, my problems, my challenges, and my growth....the music really elevated in '87 going into '88.
Timeless Treasure
My favorite U2 song! right up there with Mysterious Ways!!!
Hands down one of my favorite songs. U2 are the definition of rockstars.
Bono could sing those country blues. Man this song was iconic the moment it was realeased . Rattle and Hum was a great album in my opinion. Album Rocks. U2 can rock anything.
U2, is the best thing that Ireland has ever seen, that will ever see. As far as a rockin song, this one belts it out the best. This is the kind of song, that you crank up as loud as you can make sure it’s tuned And just perfect, and then rip the knob off. Most definitely, the best rocking song of all time. One of the best bands in the world. Thanks guys for rocking us since 1976. Roadhouse, Jimmy Sayre😊
ONE OF THE BEST ROCK SONGS EVER!!!!
If you can't rock like U2 then why bother!!!!! Jam on guys!!
U2 could do no wrong in those days, they were such a great band that even a subpar album by their standard was still better than most. It's cool to hate U2 now...but man were they a great band back then. That's how I choose to remember them.
U2....is a great band was a great band and will always be a great band. I don't know why you would say it's cool to hate them that's kind of a unkind thing to say in the early days they made meaningfully beautiful music these days they still make meaningfully beautiful music I'm pretty damn sure they will always make the greatest freaking music that they can create without limits there are no limits for U2.... They are forever blessed but Mike G still wants to bite their asses because he's probably a jerk he says jerk is oil things and thinks he can get away with it well not really I just rebutted his butthead attitude... So there U2 will always be forever blessed will always make great music and they're really great guys they probably want to forgive you Mike G for being a jerk it's not your fault you were born that way
Is it possible to not like this?
Bono the cowboy...and over 30 years later they are still rocking it
how could you not love U2 after listening to any of their songs?!?!
I love this band 14 albums later and they still rock.
Bo Diddley meets Ireland. Always loved this song. Such a great band
...I woke up this morning, and, out of NOWHERE, I thought of this shot of Bono...(1:43)...and, I SWEAR, I haven't seen this Video since Nov., of 1988!! ...and, I REMEMBERED IT! ....Great Song, by the way.....
Amazing song. Makes me wanna learn the harmonica.
There is only one way to listen to this song. FULL BLAST.. Love U2
U2 is my oldest love in music. Bono's voice, Edge's great sound and guitar playing and the solid and original spine of the band with Larry and Adam who are always forgotten... Just one of the best bands still active that never changed a band member and that was never afraid to take chances. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) who is following us on Soundcloud but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me. Keep rockin' : th-cam.com/video/YJqmsXd8QH4/w-d-xo.html&t
The part at 2:44 where Bono stalks the alley with his hair in the breeze, and he ferally wipes his mouth with his arm, always made me and my buddies laugh when we were sitting around getting high back then. We liked U2 but it was like a comedy moment, Bono trying too hard to pretend to be a savage rock badass. We were around 20 years old, it made us giggle, along with the weed.
2:44 - Bono either wants a fight or can't remember where he parked the car.
Me2 (lol)
Both dude
Bono in a nutshell. lol
It look like he has put something up his nose too. So maybe all the answers are right. After putting something up his nose he looks so angry that he looks like he wants a fight while looking where he has parked. Everything is showed at 2.44.
Ahhh yes. When U2 and I were young and beautiful!
Jimmy Fallon may have done more for U2 to spark interest in today's youth than that messed up "free" album
Hated U2...wifey loved U2....must say, they have grown on me over the years. Especially meaningful since she has passed. RIP Maggie
I'm sorry for your loss my friend...sincerely my prayers are with you!
I pray for both of you. U 2 will be together in again Heaven.

Beautiful words...
You have my sincerest condolences on the loss of your wife. She's looking down on you from Heaven. One day, the 2 of you will be reunited up there.
I was in love with Bono in high school. The first time I saw this video and him saying "Yeah" at the beginning with That Look was a.little too much for my innocent teenage heart. Still gives me the flutters. Song ain't too bad, either.
Erin Wallace I fell in love with U2 with this song, I was a girl. Never guess they would come to Colombia. A dream came true

deffinatly one of the most soul filled songs of all time, u2 is amazing!
My favorite song by U2! I ALWAYS crank up the volume everytime I hear it.
Bono sang the crap out of this song! I love it
Amen
+47imagine His voice doesn't sound nearly as good now.
Hextraordinary13
I agree. Singing voices do get worse over the years. But in fairness to Bono, he still sounds pretty good for someone nearing 60. Most rock singers completely destroy their voices before 40.
desire is like hope when we need wait for it. it's what keeps one going
I wanna say Happy 61 Birthday to U2'S Lead Singer Paul David Hewson Bono!!! Bono Guitar on fire Desire!

My favourite U2 song!
I fucking love this celtic/cowboy sound
"Celtic cowboy", LOL! Love it!
It was actually that contrasting image that brought U2 a lot of criticism during the Rattle & Hum album/movie back in 87/88. Critics saw them as being somewhat pretentious posers with the whole grass roots american blues rock image that they were trying to portray with Rattle & Hum, considering after all that U2 started out as post-punk rock band from the Ireland. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this song and this video!
OVI-Wan Kenobi
Wow I didn't know about it!!! I didn't even know they had a movie!!!
***** I do remember that U2 was not that popular with kids & teenagers back in the 80's compared to other bands & artists of the 80's, although the Joshua Tree album was enormously successful. I would say U2's main demographic back in the 80's was mostly young adults & college students since their music tended to reflect more mature themes & more serious undertones compared to what most kids/teenagers where listening to back in the 80's. It's probably one of the reasons why U2 was able to transition so successfully into the 90's, even with a completely different image.
in America, yes. Here in Ireland their audience was universal in the late 80s, loved by all ages and walks of life, but if there was one demographic above all it was working class young men 16 - 25, not the college radio/indie Anglophile types, the actual working class. This lasted until Achtung Baby, where the bands new material and posturing were of no interest to the Irish youth, who moved instead into dance music and raving. I was 16 in 1988, and vividly remember being in the crowds around the Savoy cinema in Dublin when the band appeared at the premiere of Rattle And Hum.
There r not enough days to cancel this energy, youngsters r going to be put in boot camp, my heartfelt thanks for this constant inspiration in face of apathy as I age
.. it's all about the rhythm - everything is ... Bo diddley's beat goes on and on - like it's forever ...
Jimmy nailed this one.
Shane Russell would u believe this is the demo version from Dublin cleaned up, when they were in LA recording with Jimmy they could not get that ‘raw lose sound’ that was in the demo .. so they cleaned up and over dubbed the demo.
Best band in the world!
THIS SONG WENT TO NUMBER 3 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT-100 CHART IN 1988.
A candle in my room, I am the keeper, desire.
Several years after first hearing this song as a 90s teenager I enjoy listening to this memorable Desire song by U2, the way that the music narrator longs for the muse of this song is very spellbinding.

The greatest gift is DESIRE.
A very bizarre album that included live versions of some previous album's hits and very random cover songs. Still, it had 3 original standouts: Desire, Angel of Harlem, and All I Want is You, all of which are underrated and seldom heard on radio, etc. It's nice to revisit them and their videos on TH-cam.
as my dad says this song should be longer and i could not agree more
