    I bought a second, identical climber for a different property...it is that good of a product! th-cam.com/users/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs I have had the first one for 10 years and only have had to replace the plastic chain covers when they wear out from climbing pine trees. I don't use the climbing harness and strap that comes with this product since I already have upgraded that for comfort. I do save it for a guest though. It works fine, but takes a lot of work to strap in compared to aftermarket harnesses. I will buy this climber again when my daughter is old enough to climb. It is a very safe product and well designed.

    My only thing with hunting out of a saddle, I’m a climbing arborist and I have a treemotion evo super comfy but man I’m in it 6 hours a day allot of times and I just don’t know if I could hang in that all day day light till dark, but I can see the advantage of saddle hunting for sure! Best of luck are season opens next weekend!! 🏹

    Hi Allie, I hunt from a home made saddle. I don't use a platform like you have there. I use strap on tree steps. I took about 6 strap on tree steps, removed the straps and put the steps on a ratchet strap. This allows me to put the strap on the tree and space the steps around the tree. Then I just ratchet the strap tight. This gives me footing completely around the tree. As long as I have enough length on my hanging rope I'm able to go 360⁰ around the tree and shoot from any angle.

    I really appreciate TH-cam’s like this that demonstrate a willingness to learn. I learned just yesterday that a Ropeman ascender on my linesman rope isn’t such a quiet way to ascend a small diameter tree. Dang thing clanked against the top of my sticks twice, and once again, I had a deer blowing at my shenanigans. Went back to a prusic knot but ran the end of my rope through my caribiner. Instant one-handed operation and problem solved, thanks to a comment on another TH-cam channel. What did we do before TH-cam lol? Anyhow, saddles are obviously great for long treks into public land where you can’t leave sets, or scouting to hang and hunt all in the same trip. However, like everything, they have their limitations. Yes, you can make shots 360* around the tree with a ring of steps, or if it’s a fairly small diameter tree. With all that movement, though, particularly if the tree is on the small side, is the deer going to still be standing there? As for facing away from the tree on that tiny platform, you have to remember that if the tether prevents bending at the waist, your form is hindered and that often results in a high shot. That’s shooting from a treestand 101. Speaking of tether restriction, I’m also reminded of how you sometimes have to crouch to shoot under a limb, or stand to shoot over one since on public land we have to find holes since we can’t cut shooting lanes. Just something to think about when deciding what to take into the woods. If shooting behind the tree is really important, you can shoot 360* from a good hang-on stand if wearing a rock climbing harness with the tether adjusted properly. Good video! Y’all stay safe out there.

    I totally agree. But then I stepped it up to the next level. How I did this was under a time restraint. The state I live in is under alot of social unrest. We had a big trial here. While that happened our so-called authority here took the honor of auditing another division that oversees my farm & activities. I was forced to quit my job & tackle a project @ home to DRT climb & trim dead trees that were threatening the integrity of my fencelines. I became an arborist on the fly by necessity. With a small but powerful professional saw I was able to tackle a project by bringing down branch after branch off dead 🌳 to ensure I could continue my lifestyle. It gave me the opportunity to pursue public hunting spots in a different way. I have many paracord presets over miles of land that I get to with a fat tire bike with a Burley cart attached to it. It allows me to hunt the wind in my favor. Thursday a 2 day rain will end here with me setting up a new spot b4 I settle into a spot I setup last Wednesday. I ordered a custom saddle made by Flat Branch Outdoors that I will be hunting out of with a bow the next month. I prefer to turn & shoot to the left with my back to the 🌳. I just don't feel comfortable walking around the wrong side of the 🌳 to only have the tree stop my movement by a deer that is to my right since I need it to be on my left. The hell I went through this summer is going to help my adventures by tackling the obstacles of saddle hunting w/o 360% capabilities. Looking forward to early November. Have a good whitetail season out east. Looking for u to top your season with a bow that u had last year😁.

    Practice off hand or out of normal shots like you don't have the opportunity or the time to reposition to the other side of the tree. The more you practice on limited shooting lanes, angles & non common positions. The better you will be & the less you will have to rely on more movement to reposition.
    Most of all, this is very good advice

      As long as you have yourself tethered to the tree and using a linemans rope, if you were to fall you aren't going to the ground. Its a hard fear to get over but you can get over that fear.

    • @campbellmarty36
      @campbellmarty36 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If a Ladder stand scares you???. I really don’t not think this is gonna calm you down at all!.. actually I think the complete opposite!… A ladder doesn’t move and has constant ground stability!!!. When you are lean back in the saddle your gonna learn really fast your now depending on the rope and tether!!!!. May wanna borrow one and try it before you purchase this set up!!!! These are NOT cheap at all!! Good luck!!

    I've probably commented on this video before. But I just got my phantom and skeletor sticks for Christmas. I have 2 questions.
    1) Do you leave your sticks out over night? Are you concerned that someone might steal them?
    2) how to you hold your sticks and platform as you go up the tree?

    • @OutdoorsAllie
      @OutdoorsAllie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I do leave them overnight quite often. Especially when I am going to hunt that same tree within a couple days.
      I use Nite Ize gear ties and wrap them around the loops on my saddle to hold everything on the ways up.

    Diggin' it Allie! Tons of fun in the saddle eh! I've seen more game as a saddle hunter than any other method I've hunted, love it and ill never hunt any other way. Ever thought about trying squirrel steps or a ring of steps. What about the one sticking method? That's my choosen method, once your use to it, and are able to trust your gear, you'll never look back. Find your tree and up you go. Good luck in all your hunts cool videos cheers from Canada

  • @stephen4232

    Interesting on your technique and adaptations... for remote bow hunting I'm already invested in a lightweight cast aluminum climber that can go up a wide range of tree circumferences, but I can see how adding the tether system and a little mini platform or a step on the difficult side of tree could add some bow shot opportunities. I would not want to haul in numerous strap-on tree steps or sticks to get up the typical 25 feet height- it's just to much added weight, especially in winter when you are packing in extra clothing/food/water. Thanks for your video.

    Been looking forward to this video! I been experimenting and practicing using a saddle for the past week, and i've noticed that the platform in your other video was a little small, so i actually took the platform from my climber and hoisted it up to the tree to where i wanted it, and it was amazing, one little problem, you have to stand on it so there's tension, otherwise it could just fall straight to the ground lol, then what's the point in it, i guess just have to be extra careful not to bump the platform with your feet when your hanging from the saddle

      When you get up there, put a strap where the climber teeth bite to the tree, go around the tree and both sides of the climber basically keeping the teeth of the climber tight against the tree so it has no chance of falling. I hope I explained that correctly.

It's not going anywhere. While climbing with the lineman's rope, does it want to slip or give say on a wet or smooth barked tree? Or maybe the tree has some snow or ice on it? My fear is as I'm trying to strap sticks to the tree, something gives and I fall and get hung upside down! Lol! Just curious and thanks for the videos. It was vey uncomfortable to me. However, I do like the lightweight qualities of saddle hunting. I also like the idea that it's easier to keep the tree between you and the deer. Outdoors Allie I would suggest practicing the small steps on the platform close to the ground to build the muscle memory. Once you get that confidence, doing it up in the tree is simple and you will be able to do it with out even looking down at your feet.

    A friend has suggested saddle hunting to me and after a few vids I’ve already come to the conclusion that this is a rather complex and questionable style of hunting that is very expensive. My biggest issue that I can tell that I would have is my knees. Having my knees pressed into the tree for long periods of time does not sound comfortable, nor does standing on a tiny platform. Thanks for the video though. Glad it works for you. Good luck.

    As a woman myself I have been trying to find another woman using one of these to ask my biggest question about using a saddle. What do you do if you are in the tree a long time and have to pee? I imagine if layered for cold weather and having the saddle on, it could be a bit of a hassle and not wise to hold it too long lol.

    • @J155P
      @J155P 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Everyday_Railroading I love the portability, compactness, and quietness of the saddle. The summit is a nice climber. I just found it way too bulky and loud going through twigs and brush. Also, I'm not a tall guy and the overall length of the summit was just too much for me while walking through thick brush and over logs etc. My legs would always kick the cables and stand, which I found annoying. My particular summit didn't fold down flat either, so I felt the center of gravity was way to far back, if that makes any sense.
