Have you ever tried SRT or DRT Climbing methods? Used by professional arborists, & very fun! I’m now considering selling my new strap on steps, after trying it!!!! Hope Ian didn’t ruin things for you guys in Florida!!!
Hello, great job on the video. I've been studying mobile climbing systems for a while now and they just don't seem that safe. And carrying climbing sticks everytime I go out hunting, wouldn't be my first choice ether because they can kick out and your foot can slide off the steps quite easily. Ratchet straps would work to hold the stick but their to heavy. Screw in steps were always the safest but they weren't light either and back then a safety harness was never even thought of. Lol
Wow, 18 ft.... YES ...i love yall's videos, and your enthusiam. For over 30 yrs, I've always jacked up in a tree to 30 ft + with a climbing stand, where i hunt, swamps of Louisiana, they spot you from afar.... been busted too many times, so had to climb higher... that saddle hunting ya'll do is a trip.... totally love it yeah!!@@OutdoorsAllie
I used to climb high, but decided there are things worse than dying. Living life maimed from falling out of a tree comes to mind. I have killed deer out of stands as low as 7 feet off the ground. Some set ups actually require you to be closer to the ground because your shooting lanes can disappear if you go too high. I survived two tree stand falls to the ground, both of them involving equipment failure and not clumsiness... one was a climber that cut lose from the tree and I rode it all the way to ground. The second was a ladder stand that decided it wanted to be on the other side of the tree as I just started climbing down and it spun 90 degrees slinging me off 16 feet up. At that height, you actually have time to hear the air rushing past your ears before you hit the ground. These incidents happened over 20 years ago. I always wear a safety harness now. The best mistakes to learn from, are someone else's...
I’m new to hunting but I want to use a saddle and climbing sticks. I’ve gone up regular tree stands and I just don’t like them that much. I don’t need to be that high up. Just a little bit to see further would be good for me.
Holy cow, i'm impressed girl! Your steps are incredible! I can't do that any more as I'm 59 years old and have no flexibility. I use aiders on all my sticks and can get about 24' with four sticks. Keep up the good work and stay safe!!!
I've been repelling back down using a rescue 8, during practice, will now be investing in getting a gree gree!!! I ended up scrapping the sticks altogether, & went with the method of “SRT”, (Single Rope Technique), as most trees I target climbing, tend to be huge, & choked with limbs & branches. With the “PITN” (Pain In The Neck) of sticks, I might as well have stuck with the comfort of my almost 30lb noisy & cumbersome climber, which didn’t work with most trees, & why I looked for an alternative in the first place!!! Now, all I carry in, is my ropes/throw ball, ascending & repelling equipment, & platform. (Backpack with platform attached & bow). The learning curve is so well worth it!!!! Go in light, come out heavy!!!
Allie your reaching new heights every day! I did see the leaves on your shoes before Nick mentioned it. Having a dog I thought, that can only mean one thing. Actually, I always discovered it when I was driving to work. Glad you made it up and down safely. Those tree saddles are great! Great video!
That was a great tip at the end regarding platform at top stick at nearly the same level!! Allows for extra stepping around the tree to potentially make a shot.. Good job thank you!!
Wow! You're amazing! i enjoy all your videos. I had a similar thing happen while hunting. I got to my ladder stand in the dark and an hour after first light a buck walked up to my stand on the same trail i walked in on. he started sniffing the ground near my stand and i arrowed him. i climbed down and got ready to blood trail and realized somebody's dog left a surprise on the ground near my stand and it was now on my rungs, the platform on top and on my hands. Fortunately i had to retrieve my buck so I used a bunch of leaves to clean my hands and went and found my deer. HAPPY ENDING!
Since you are climbing with sticks, you could rappel down fairly easily and cheaply and make it so much more safer. Climbing down sticks in the dark is the most dangerous part of the hunt I believe.
Nice job 👍🏻 that was high for a saddle setup. Nick said - I'm going to have to spray you off I don't know if you're going to be allowed in the house 🤣🤣🤣
Hey Allie, I'm glad that Nick was there and you didn't try the climb by yourself. I don't want my chef to get hurt. lol By the way... when are we having some bear for dinner? Take care and be SAFE.
I don't think Nick being there was going to prevent her from getting hurt. It's not as if he could have caught her if she fell. Also, it amazes me that you guys eat bear. They're such a nasty animal. They eat rancid, rotten, maggot covered dead animals. I'll stick with nice, corn fed deer.
Great video. I did learn watching the video that I will not be saddle hunting. I'm a little to old but most of all I'm a lot too fat. I'm sticking to my Summit. I do hunt between 15 to 30 feet. It depends on location.
Hey Allie since I’m trying to get into hunting and absolutely love your videos you should make a video of you going to the store and buying all the gear you need for a beginner hunter and what you need to do to prepare for a hunt!!!
Look up one stick saddle hunting. A lot less stuff to carry and ascending is much safer. Height of climbing is not limited. Thank you for all your videos.
Agree with to high on those skinny thin pine trees. THEY WIIL SNAP! Had many close calls being a dummy and SEVERAL TURN NASTY TO SAY THE LEAST. Forty years limping from a fall now. 28 days in traction, 31 days in hospital, and 6 months recovery. Plus out of work for 10 months.
I use a “Tree Suit” they are not made anymore, and use bolts and a hand drill to get up private property trees. Once the tree is drilled out a pocket full of bolts gets me up15-20 ft. And I can leave the top ones in for the next time I hunt so I carry little into the woods. 3 bolts for my foot rest is all I need.
Hey Allie you still hunting with the NXT. I sold mine and bought an Supra Focus Xl, but have now become very impressed with the Elite Remedy and or Rezult. Thanks for the video. 🏹🤠👍
Glad you made it up and down safe. Safety wise when hunting with the extra clothes on, can you add a couple more sticks? Or and the strap on the bottom of the other ones like the first stick? Stay safe!
I use an aider that I bring up from stick to stick. Makes it so your not stretching so much between steps and gets you a little higher. I get between 18-20 using 3 of the hawk helium steps. Less gear to carry and no clanking going up with one on each side and platform on the back.
@Outdoors Allie it's 4 foot nylon climbing sling. I hook it over the top step so it's easy to grab. You can get them on Amazon or any store that has climbing gear. I'll send you a photo of it later. Actually I think it's what you're using on the first step but I bring it up to the next step as I go up.
I'm curious about a few things: In the hunting area, the game tends to move almost exclusively late at night and is extremely cautious. Incredibly cautious. It often approaches the feeder by just running through it at first. Then it lies down nearby and waits, sometimes for 4-5 hours, and if everything remains still in perfect silence, it ventures out to the feeder for about 15 minutes. In such a situation, when I'm up on the tree at 8-12 meters high for 14-16 hours, there are times when "nature calls" and "I need to take a moment for personal hygiene." Does this work in saddle hunting? :-)
You could also use a movable aider, just bringing it up with you as you ascend the tree. Get's a little sketchy using an aider (imo) past the first move, but if you really want to get higher that is one easy way to do it. That or use a swaider. honestly though, 18 feet is about perfect in 90% of hunts imo if you pick the right tree/setup.
Hey Allie Why not get rid of the Ropeman 1 and use a Mad Rock Safegaurd? They are a $ 100 bucks on Amazon ! That way you can repel down and remove steps as you go. Much faster! You can use it going up or down and will be much safer using a 30 ft tether! Keep your all your extra tether rope in a pouch on your right side so the deer don't smell it until you are ready to repel down . Whatcha think yes-no?🤔
I would have liked to see you use the aider on the way down but for some reason the video cut that out. That is my current problem with the aiders. Getting down is difficult.
Cool Video Allie, Im seriously considering getting a saddle for public land hunting this year. I tested out the new phantom elite at the Harrisburg outdoor show and thought it was pretty cool. I guess you always roll with 4 sticks, to get that extra height?
One thing I was disappointed with that you didn't take your bow with you and did a couple practice shots to show the difference when higher up in a tree.

Thanks for watching Earl!
That's impressive! I couldn't do 18'. I have a hard time up in a tree stand. I'm just too clumsy and don't like heights.
Made a living climbing utility poles. 15 ft and over is life threatening injuries and even death.
Nice video! Extra cool being my Tethrd tree saddle set up just came in the mail yesterday!

Love the video Allie, but I'm 60 yo and 218 lbs. Think I'll stick to my old climbing stand or ladder stand.
Since you are climbing with sticks, you could rappel down fairly easily and cheaply and make it so much more safer. Climbing down sticks in the dark is the most dangerous part of the hunt I believe.
Agree
I always bring a little head lamp because of this!
That’s why I use my tether on the way down instead of a lineman rope. I only use the lineman to go around a branch on the way up or down.
The thing I miss in the video is how you made such a giant step up between steps.
Nice job 👍🏻 that was high for a saddle setup. Nick said - I'm going to have to spray you off I don't know if you're going to be allowed in the house 🤣🤣🤣
LOL
I learn a lot from your videos. I really have to get an ascender for my lineman’s belt…clutch

Depends on the spot.
