Looks too fast to me. Maybe throw the drill into low range. Gear boxes are really cheap on the wee bay. BTW, keeping things in-house really helps with timelines and independence.
Need to be slower than 1 RPM to get a nice weld.
I don't know much about this stuff, but could you use a PWM controller or potentiometer to adjust the speed?
