    I think this scale could be cool for a "trains of the world" series, with this "minimalist" style of famous real world train lines? Kind of like how they make the Architecture series. Maybe even put out a display baseplate that looks like a train yard... (now I'm just daydreaming)

    • @rodinclaus9380

      I'd see the merit of that. It could be fun to see Lego take on iconic or classic trains, though I imagine they'd have to do some rights and licensing. still, it'd be something to see the return of the Santa Fe Super Chief in a much, much smaller scale.

    I think the wheels should've been on turntables. The size allows for that. I actually love the size but since it's not compatible with minifigs or any official Lego train tracks it's a big miss in my opinion. However, I think if Lego made trains in this scale with tracks and small motors to go with them, I think they would sell very well. They could even do smaller scale, call it mini trains or something. Might be cool.

    Perfect for me - trying out some forced perspective on my layout, so a scaled down train definitely helps to 'extend' my space.

    i think my favorite little detail is the sticker on the back of each car that says "LCC-HLC" suggesting that this train would connect Lego City and Heartlake City.

    Hmmz, You can use this on an elevated traintrack in the background of a LEGO-city, to create the illusion of depth. Doesnt work for Jang-city, but for people with less space and having their city build up against a wall (like me), it might work.

    The set reminds of the employees only “50 years on track” set. Which included a bunch of classic LEGO trains in 4 wide scale. They had the first ever LEGO train, emerald night, metroliner, space monorail, holiday train, and a classic western train from the 80s. It’s a set I’ve always wanted that not many people know about!

    I think for $20, this is a decent value and makes for a great toy for kids. But for me, I'm probably more interested in this for the stickers, and I guess the parts somewhat less, than for the model itself. Although, I could see this being re-purposed, and maybe with only a little bit of modification, as part of a sort of delivery system. Think of it a little Shuttle transporting things between different parts of a city or a really big ship.

      They could fairly easily put the 4 wheel bogies on ball joints or turntable bricks, maybe even technic pins to allow for small gradient changes and to allow rotation.
      Plus they could switch out the coupling they've made for a drawbar rather than a ball and socket joint

  • @LePondLaDuck

    I hope Lego do more with this scale. It would be cool to see buildings as detailed as modulars but 6 or 7 stories tall and 3 cars for the price of one Speed Champs set. It’s a good scale for building a big, detailed city without spending loads.

  • @kevinm5940
    @kevinm5940 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I still think this set is conceptually very strange. It has the "Creator 3-in-1" style of box design, but there are no alternate builds. That's also how the two 'souvenir' sets from last year looked, but this doesn't make much sense as a souvenir?
    Even more confusingly, it's listed as "Creator Expert" on LEGO's website, a line that doesn't technically exist anymore (as sets like that are simply branded as '18+' nowadays).

    • @bdonaghu
      @bdonaghu 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JANGsLEGOreviews I love the Blacksmith, but it is not a "castle." The 3-in-1 is not an 18+ set like you wish to see in trains, and it was darn near impossible to secure either Castle in the Forest or Lowenstine when released. I, like so many others, missed out on these two because they sold out in less than 30 minutes and now cost an arm and a leg in the secondary market.

    @patrick-jefferson 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the old blue rails you can create a 4 wide track or you can add a single blue rails track inside the newer double rails. You can use a 2-by-2 rotating plate (two parts: light grey round and black square frame) to make the wheel sets rotate to make them go through curves and you should connect the couplers to the wheel sets to make it all work.

    Imo its a good price for two peices, if they sold it as a 3 or 4 car set it may have been overpriced for some folks so it makes sense that they do this.
    In your experience, do you think it would be easy enough to convert one of the power cars to a middle carriage if you got three sets? So two power cars, three complete carriages and one spare power car converted to a carriage?

    I didn't know they confirmed a continuation of what started with the Crocodile, that's very exciting! Personally, and I think I am not alone in this opinion, I much prefer more detailed trains that fit on the existing track, especially if they can be motorized in some way. However, I don't mind little train sets like this being made, since they seem to be a supplemental thing to exist alongside the current line of Lego trains. The low cost makes them especially appealing!

    This looks fun.. not exactly what I want, but its cheap and its a train lol. I wish lego would branch out from European locos a little bit other than the late 1800s American style. I mean lets be honest here, all trains are cool but 1930s America put out genuine masterpieces on wheels. The art deco styling was the greatest thing to happen to the industry. I would genuinely cry if they made a Pennsylvania GG1. They certainly can't argue its iconic status, but they'd prob say its too similar to the crocodile or some nonsense (its not)

  • @WizardOfOss
    @WizardOfOss 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can't say I dislike how it looks, and it seems reasonable value, but I just don't get the intention behind this set. I think it fails as a display set, as without tracks there's no proper way to display it. It fails as a play set because there's just not much you can do with it, I just don't see any 7+ kid push this around on the floor, they should have made it 4+ for that. And it fails as a souvenir because it's some generic design that doesn't look like any real train.
    That said, I do see some potential here. I would love to see a range of similar sized (and priced) models of actual trains. With a few pieces of track included, and a plaque with some information about that train. That would be a great collector series, like a Speed Champions equivalent aimed at railway enthusiasts. I'd buy those! NanoBlock does have something like that, though mostly Japanese trains, and with their limited part inventory those look somewhat crude. I'd love to to see something similar from Lego!

    The only thing I would get this for is a display piece, and that seems to be what it was intended to be. Why does lego seem to be stacking the odds against trains?
