Thank you. Watching this video made me realize that my console will load discs if, and only if, you boot the console without a disc and then insert the disc at the console menu. Works like a charm.
When I watch your videos, I click “Like” at the start of the video before I’ve even seen any of it because I just know it will be a great video. And I know how much effort goes into producing these videos.
Mine has a thing where it reads audio cds fine but when i boot up a game disc it gets to the ps logo and then it just stays at the ps logo. How could i fix it or what could be the cause
In addition to the hair, the disc that was sent with the console (Medal of Honor: Underground) appears to be scratched. It could be as simple as the person who sent it in didn't think to try it with multiple discs? We didn't see that game ever work so it could have been a disc too scratched to run.
People call the PS and PS1 a PSX but it's not a PSX lol The PSX was a Sony digital video recorder with a fully integrated PlayStation 2 game console built in. It was only released in Japan on December 13 2003. But due to it's high cost it had poor sales so Sony canceled all plans to release the PSX outside of Japan. The PSX was a commercial failure.
I haven't yet, but I have heard that. I do have another PS1 to look at with a similar problem. I'll be doing that one soon, and will definitely be taking it apart to have a good look!
@@StezStixFix Ya lots of dead ps1s from bad modchips. I think maybe it's something to do with the cd controller chip. Not such an easy fix. @@StezStixFix I install psio chips for fun on the side. Next time I get a dead one I'll put a psio in it to see if it works. I do know that swapping out lasers does nothing.
Hey man I just wanted to ask if you could please help me with my PS1? It's an original 1994 console. My dad's friend gave it to me. It works but 90% of the time it reads as a CD instead of a game. What can I do to fix it?
Hey! That sounds like the laser has lost power. The laser assembly might need replacing, but if you want to have a look at it, you can adjust the potentiometer inside and increase the power to the laser which might work. Have a Google of "ps1 potentiometer adjustment" and you'll find some good guides. Good luck 👍
I see that you've used computer dry spray to clear out any dirt and debris.,inside which is a great thing to do. You totally reminded me that this is good practice when it comes to console and cpu cleaning/ maintenance.
I got a question mine doesn’t do this it takes me to a menu where I can play the games music but not the actual game and it tells me I need to insert a CD-ROM please help
Sounds like it's reading your games as regular CD's. Not really sure what you can do, I've not come across that before. I would give the cd laser lens a quick clean if you haven't already. You may need a replacement laser assembly. Good luck 👍
Just imagine... if people can't figure out that their disk is too scratched or the unit is only dirty... How many devices end up in the trash just because people don't even try to resolve a simple problem as that? Stuff like this should be taught at school or something. People needs to be educated on how to solve simple problems and not just by throwing money at it (eg: buy a new unit).
I replaced my disk laser reader, but the same issue still persists. What could be the cause? There's no Playstation logo, only the logo before that, and then it shows a screen which mentions, "Please enter format a disc." All my games are original PS1 games, though.
can you help with a playstation problem I have? I have an original unit that will only read SOME discs. others it won't get past the boot up screens. These discs are in great shape and work just fine on my PSONE model. Do you have any thoughts on what the problem is? how can it just be some discs and not others? thank you!
Hi Henry. I imagine that your laser is starting to burn out on the CD assembly. It's a very common problem with the PS1. It must still have some life in it, otherwise it wouldn't read anything, so you could open it up and mess around with the potentiometer on there. That will give the laser a bit more power and might help reading the discs. Have a search and you'll find some guides on how to do it. Good luck 👍
@@StezStixFix ahh I see. I never considered the laser might die slowly and not instantly, so this was helpful. Thanks for your help and have a good one!
i got a question. the power socket for the ps1optical drive is missing and i dunno why it just chipped off from the mother board ( the white thingy that connects the optical drive's power supply i guess?) but for that, is there a way i can repair it back? or do i have to buy another motherboard similar to my ps1 SCPH number?
It depends whether the board is damaged i guess. If the connector and board is still in one piece, it could probably be soldered back on, but with you saying it's missing, maybe that isn't an option. It's hard to really say without seeing what the damage is...
@@StezStixFix sadly, its the connecter or socket is missing. everything on the motherboard is fine (except the white thingy near the optical drive). is there some replacement parts similar to it that i can solder it back in,and is it possible to solder it back in?

Hello, perhaps you can help me. My PS1 refuses to play the second level of a game, that I have now purchased for the SECOND time! In both cases my game freezes at that point and I have to restart the whole level AGAIN, only to have it freeze AGAIN at that same spot! The first copy of this game I bought here in Canada and it had many little scratches on the disc, so I figured, that was probably the issue but then I purchased the second one from the US and the disc was in much better condition but it too stops at the same place - I don’t understand… all my other games run just fine on my PS1. I’ve asked others who have played this game [Armorines, btw] and they haven’t experienced this issue. Is this a known manufacturer issues or am I just incredibly unlucky , as it pertains to this game? Any insight will be appreciated. Please let me know. Thank you
