I've lived in Saudi Arabia for 20 years..and I've got an archeology background. For years I've been yelling , ""Stop the car and let me take photos! This has to be something archeological!" I'm so happy to finally see this!! They are absolutely everywhere in the northwest of the country.. It's been obvious to people living here for a very very looooong time.... Then the western archeologists arrive like heroic Columbus "discovering" America.
Don't blame western academics for all the ills of the world. I'm not from that mind set but rather of eastern philosophical back ground. I believe what has been stalling any academic developments in SA and many Islamic countries is exactly that. Islam. They won't allow anything to have existed before Islam and rather destroy any evidence of it. That mind set didn't allow academics from exploring.

Most religious countries or undeveloped countries destroyed their artifacts to cover up things that contradict their religion. As Rome colonized 5 continents by the 1750s, they destroyed artifacts. Because the idea of a step-by-step process to salvation is appealing, many in the Christian community make the mistake of presenting salvation as a result of a step-by-step process. Roman Catholicism has seven sacraments. Various Christian denominations add baptism, public confession, turning from sin, speaking in tongues, etc., as steps to salvation. But the Bible only presents one step to salvation. When the Philippian jailer asked Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” Paul responded, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:30-31). Faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior is the only “step” to salvation. The message of the Bible is abundantly clear. We have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23). Because of our sin, we cannot in any sense earn salvation. We could follow 1000 steps, and it would not be enough. That is why Jesus had to die in our place. We are absolutely incapable of paying our sin debt to God or cleansing ourselves from sin. Only God could accomplish our salvation, and so He did. God Himself completed the “steps” and thereby offers salvation to anyone who will receive it from Him. Salvation and forgiveness of sins is not about following steps. It is about receiving Christ as Savior and recognizing that He has done all of the work for us. God requires one step of us-receiving Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin and fully trusting in Him alone as the way of salvation. That is what distinguishes the Christian faith from all other world religions, each of which has a list of steps that must be followed in order for salvation to be received. The history of al ula is also told in the quran saying "those who lived in alula were granted with mighty strength" They built all of the houses temples and statues with their bare hands. This was a nice documentary.
While ancient Arabia tribes and their amazing buildings and carvings were mentioned repeatedly in Quran, there is no mention of Alula people under this specific name so this phrase doesn't exists in the Quran.

@@Allinda. It doesnt mention Al-Ula by name but it describes the people of Prophet Saleh called Thamud (which the name for one of sites Mada’in Saleh derived from) who lived there. The people of Thamud were much stronger than the people of Prophet Hud (Eber in the Bible) called the people of 'Aad who came before them, strong enough to carve and build such enormous homes and palaces. They are described in Surah Al-A'raf (Chapter 7) Verses 65-78. This verse however describes the ancient carved homes and palaces we've so far discovered in Al-Ula. "Remember when He made you successors after ’Âad (referring to the people of Thamud) and established you in the land-˹and˺ *you built palaces on its plains and carved homes into mountains.* So remember Allah’s favours, and do not go about spreading corruption in the land.” [7:74]

Interesting and informative documentary. I’m Saudi and when I take a plane and see these structures, I always wonder who built it and for what purpose because these are scattered throughout Arabian peninsula. At some point, I know it’s for some ancient rituals due to the fact these are hard to be distinguished unless you are some feet above the land but I wouldn’t imagine these are soo old like 7000 years old. My favourite structures are the triangle with circle on its head,I think these deserve to be studied. Arabian peninsula must be archaeologically discovered since it’s one of the first places that ancient human migration started out of African continent and Arabia was definitely different from what it is today in term of weather and terrains.

Great to see Saudi Arabia is opening up to exploration. Born in Arabia, my family and friends would go out into the desert exploring and camping, its was so much fun and we found such interesting artifacts, Saudi Arabia is so full of interesting history. Bravo.

Down below the area is dry also, desert area...but at one point in time it definitely looks to have had a river or rivers down below and probably very fertile wet land. You make a very good observation about it being a cemetery. Why do you think the areas are not any specific shape like a perfect circle or triangle like similar ancient gravesites found in Saudi Arabia?
@@EEA75 - Not a real criticism, my apologies, just grumpy old me wanting to get to the "real deal". I understand that it's an adventure rather than an archaeology channel and that's fair enough. There was one or two shots where you captured that downhill landscape but very briefly. Not enough for me to evaluate but seems like broken by ancient rivers, the kind of which existed in Arabia (and the Sahara) in the "pluvial" periods. I'd conjecture that the people lived downhill and that was probably their cemetery. Hopefully your video will attract someone with academic influence into properly excavating those mysterious mounds. Wow, how very interesting. My uncle worked in Saudi in 90’s, and said that they are some of the warmest people he has ever met. Thank you for sharing this video. I’m in England, and find Stonehenge mysterious, but for me the pyramids are awesome, and now seeing this, Alula has just been another add to my bucket list.

What an amazing documentary! I used to grew up in Al-Ula but what I've seen, I'm astonished of those triangles, rectangles, mustatil, pendants etc. Thanks Discovery channel! All the remains that archaeologists referred them to a religious practice and or sacrifices to Gods, Abu Azizah's team finding of the pendant which animal remains is really interesting, why we don't think of the entertainment side of that nation, do they dedicated all their live worshiping and ritual performance !?

I am happy to have traveled a lot, but somehow the highlight of my travels was Saudi Arabia, wich I visited last year, just before pandemic. I never cried, fascinated by the the beauty of a place, a city, nature, sights, until coming to Saudi Arabia and visiting Alula. We drove for 8 hours that day, fantastic scenery of the landscape that is constantly changing. The moment we were descending towards Alula I started crying, for some inexplicable reason, maybe because I was where few people were, maybe because of the beauty and unusual rock formations, or just the excitement. This place iz so amazing...

There is no telling what could be uncovered under the thousands of sand hills throughout the deserts around Taif, Jeddah, and other cities. The sand storms cover any structures in the desert. So there is no telling what is under all that sand

Excellent documentary and educational material. Having lived on the outskirts of the Empty Quarter from 2012 to 2017, I have an endearing respect for this unique dune laden desert. It is a beautiful landscape today. Arid and dry, hot in the day and it can get cold at night. Many of he secrets under those dunes may never be uncovered because of the huge mass of sand covering. The people of the area should be very proud. The concrete discovery of livestock domestication thousands of years before Stonehenge and the Pyramids is another Historic rewrite. In many ways as significant as Gobeki Tepe. Kudos to the crew and the locals.
Maybe they need to add this area to the 7 wonders of the world and make it 8 wonders of the world now because its truly wonderous and wonderful to see! Very beautiful ruins! ❤️

wow.. old town is fascinating! it's construction reminds me of some of the first large human settlements such as Çatalhöyük, Aşıklı Höyük, and other truly ancient early human villages going back 12,000+ years... I feel like we could learn a few things from it.
@@kaiapparent2653 yes, the trip was really amazing but i would advise that you take the afternoon tickets should you visit the site during summer. with regard to oasis trail walk between Dadan and Old Town, you can do it at around 8am during summer because we did it at 2pm and it was terribly hot, dont forget your water bottle and sun protection as well.

Austin Henry Layard said the hospitality during his trip was the most amazing part of the arduous journey....love to spend some time there. If you study hadiths,you'd find that prophet muhammad s.a.w told us that Arabia was a prosperous and green land and it was turned into desert and near the day of judgement it would be turned green again.
I've lived in Saudi Arabia for 20 years..and I've got an archeology background. For years I've been yelling , ""Stop the car and let me take photos! This has to be something archeological!" I'm so happy to finally see this!! They are absolutely everywhere in the northwest of the country.. It's been obvious to people living here for a very very looooong time.... Many people are looking for “steps to salvation.” People like the idea of an instruction manual with five steps that, if followed, will result in salvation. An example of this is Islam with its Five Pillars. According to Islam, if the Five Pillars are obeyed, salvation will be granted. Because the idea of a step-by-step process to salvation is appealing, many in the Christian community make the mistake of presenting salvation as a result of a step-by-step process. Roman Catholicism has seven sacraments. Various Christian denominations add baptism, public confession, turning from sin, speaking in tongues, etc., as steps to salvation. But the Bible only presents one step to salvation. When the Philippian jailer asked Paul, “What must I do to be saved?” Paul responded, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved” (Acts 16:30-31).
Faith in Jesus Christ as the Savior is the only “step” to salvation. The message of the Bible is abundantly clear. We have all sinned against God (Romans 3:23). Because of our sin, we deserve to be eternally separated from God (Romans 6:23). Because of His love for us (John 3:16), God took on human form and died in our place, taking the punishment that we deserve (Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21). God promises forgiveness of sins and eternal life in heaven to all who receive, by grace through faith, Jesus Christ as Savior (John 1:12; 3:16; 5:24; Acts 16:31).
Salvation is not about certain steps we must follow to earn salvation. Yes, Christians should be baptized. Yes, Christians should publicly confess Christ as Savior. Yes, Christians should turn from sin. Yes, Christians should commit their lives to obeying God. However, these are not steps to salvation. They are results of salvation. Because of our sin, we cannot in any sense earn salvation. We could follow 1000 steps, and it would not be enough. That is why Jesus had to die in our place. We are absolutely incapable of paying our sin debt to God or cleansing ourselves from sin. Only God could accomplish our salvation, and so He did. God Himself completed the “steps” and thereby offers salvation to anyone who will receive it from Him.
Salvation and forgiveness of sins is not about following steps. It is about receiving Christ as Savior and recognizing that He has done all of the work for us. God requires one step of us-receiving Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin and fully trusting in Him alone as the way of salvation. That is what distinguishes the Christian faith from all other world religions, each of which has a list of steps that must be followed in order for salvation to be received. The Christian faith recognizes that God has already completed the steps and simply calls on the repentant to receive Him in faith.

@@Allinda. It doesnt mention Al-Ula by name but it describes the people of Prophet Saleh called Thamud (which the name for one of sites Mada’in Saleh derived from) who lived there. The people of Thamud were much stronger than the people of Prophet Hud (Eber in the Bible) called the people of 'Aad who came before them, strong enough to carve and build such enormous homes and palaces. They are described in Surah Al-A'raf (Chapter 7) Verses 65-78. This verse however describes the ancient carved homes and palaces we've so far discovered in Al-Ula.
"Remember when He made you successors after ’Âad (referring to the people of Thamud) and established you in the land-˹and˺ *you built palaces on its plains and carved homes into mountains.* So remember Allah’s favours, and do not go about spreading corruption in the land.” [7:74]

Interesting and informative documentary. I’m Saudi and when I take a plane and see these structures, I always wonder who built it and for what purpose because these are scattered throughout Arabian peninsula. At some point, I know it’s for some ancient rituals due to the fact these are hard to be distinguished unless you are some feet above the land but I wouldn’t imagine these are soo old like 7000 years old. My favourite structures are the triangle with circle on its head,I think these deserve to be studied. Arabian peninsula must be archaeologically discovered since it’s one of the first places that ancient human migration started out of African continent and Arabia was definitely different from what it is today in term of weather and terrains.
There is more than what we have been told about our history. Advanced techniques way older than actual history. Similar techniques everywhere around the world that we cannot explain, America, Europe, Asia, etc.

Hey Michael, there is nothing like Muslim or non-Muslim to be allowed to travel to SA. There are only two locations which are limited for Muslims and that is from religious perspective since they are sacred places and non-Muslim are forbidden to be there. Also, Saudi Arabia has launched new policy for international tourists from almost 50 countries (mostly non-Muslim majority countries as some people like to call it) and it will take you less than an hour to have it without any invitation ( check visitsaudi.com). Unfortunately, these eVISAs are suspended due to COVID-19 restrictions recently. You are more than welcome to visit the country when the life get normal again.

Great to see Saudi Arabia is opening up to exploration. Born in Arabia, my family and friends would go out into the desert exploring and camping, its was so much fun and we found such interesting artifacts, Saudi Arabia is so full of interesting history. Bravo.

@@EEA75 - Interesting, although half of the video is you traveling to the place. I'd say (educated guess) that it's a massive ancient cemetery: each mound a tomb, each precint maybe a family burial/ceremonial plot, the open one a communal area. The (relatively) fertile lands are downhill, right?

Down below the area is dry also, desert area...but at one point in time it definitely looks to have had a river or rivers down below and probably very fertile wet land. You make a very good observation about it being a cemetery. Why do you think the areas are not any specific shape like a perfect circle or triangle like similar ancient gravesites found in Saudi Arabia?
@@EEA75 - Not a real criticism, my apologies, just grumpy old me wanting to get to the "real deal". I understand that it's an adventure rather than an archaeology channel and that's fair enough.
There was one or two shots where you captured that downhill landscape but very briefly. Not enough for me to evaluate but seems like broken by ancient rivers, the kind of which existed in Arabia (and the Sahara) in the "pluvial" periods. I'd conjecture that the people lived downhill and that was probably their cemetery. Hopefully your video will attract someone with academic influence into properly excavating those mysterious mounds.

There is a berried city in the empty quarter desert, southeast Saudi Arabia, the city is called “Iram”. No one ever found it! Arabia is a mysterious page in the world book.

I am happy to have traveled a lot, but somehow the highlight of my travels was Saudi Arabia, wich I visited last year, just before pandemic. I never cried, fascinated by the the beauty of a place, a city, nature, sights, until coming to Saudi Arabia and visiting Alula. We drove for 8 hours that day, fantastic scenery of the landscape that is constantly changing. The moment we were descending towards Alula I started crying, for some inexplicable reason, maybe because I was where few people were, maybe because of the beauty and unusual rock formations, or just the excitement. This place iz so amazing...

This is amazing for many reasons one of which it is another example of the quite drastic changes our amazing earth has gone through over thousands of yrs. Intelligent peoples are much older than that has been thought before, I love learning how amazing and how long and far we've come.
Wow 😲....they found glyphs that allegedly show the transition from hunter /gatherer to herding ....that's really really cool !! ......the fact that the area is much to arrid to support cattle herding means the age of the glyphs amazing

There is no telling what could be uncovered under the thousands of sand hills throughout the deserts around Taif, Jeddah, and other cities. The sand storms cover any structures in the desert. So there is no telling what is under all that sand

Excellent documentary and educational material. Having lived on the outskirts of the Empty Quarter from 2012 to 2017, I have an endearing respect for this unique dune laden desert. It is a beautiful landscape today. Arid and dry, hot in the day and it can get cold at night. Many of he secrets under those dunes may never be uncovered because of the huge mass of sand covering.
The people of the area should be very proud. The concrete discovery of livestock domestication thousands of years before Stonehenge and the Pyramids is another Historic rewrite. In many ways as significant as Gobeki Tepe. Kudos to the crew and the locals.

In a manner, but the systement , "we are interested in the past" isn't true. They are interested in information. Which is different. They seek something other than what they are telling you. For instance, they seek a connection to their alien race that they call the "architects". But according to history even, we have sumerians and those who built the great Pyramids which they left no signature. Egyptians left their language, but the original builders didn't.
This places them before historically recorded history. Because all historical evidences were wiped away, in a post-apocalyptic event. It is called the Flood. I doubt the site will be open to tourist for a long time. Artifacts will be placed in a museum along with photos of the site.

wow.. old town is fascinating! it's construction reminds me of some of the first large human settlements such as Çatalhöyük, Aşıklı Höyük, and other truly ancient early human villages going back 12,000+ years... I feel like we could learn a few things from it.

@@kaiapparent2653 yes, the trip was really amazing but i would advise that you take the afternoon tickets should you visit the site during summer. with regard to oasis trail walk between Dadan and Old Town, you can do it at around 8am during summer because we did it at 2pm and it was terribly hot, dont forget your water bottle and sun protection as well.

So glad to find this...I've been looking at these structures on Google Earth and wondering how old they are.
They don't know how old they are - they're guessing.

Austin Henry Layard said the hospitality during his trip was the most amazing part of the arduous journey....love to spend some time there.
