    #1. You should have used a heatsink on the cooling side too.
    #2. The thermostat sensor should be placed on the Air-Outlet to get the actual temperature of air flowing out of the Air-condition.
    Thanks👍

    I am in the coffee business for 20 years, and we use Peltier cooling for the syrup instant coffee dispensed in our machines. What Cyprian Guerra says is absolutely correct. There are several problems here:
    1) In such a cabinet, it will not cool a room, because Peltier cooling generates heat on the back side, and it is the heat that needs to be vented away, or else the Peltier element will burn out quickly. It would require a bigger (6 times larger) heat-sink than the one he uses, and a fan 2 to 4 times larger than the fan he uses on the back. It would need to be mounted in a window or other specially-made opening, with a heat-sink and fan on the backside to vent the heat away from the element.
    2) He lies when he uses the words "surrounding " or "ambient" temperature. No room, would heat up that fast, and if it had gone so quickly from 30+ degrees to 10 degrees, he'd have put a coat on very quickly. The thermometer must have been mounted somewhere on the front, probably behind the display itself, so he was not measuring the temperature of the surrounding air , but the temperature of the face of the Peltier element itself. A very small chamber on our coffee machines where the liquid instant coffee is held, takes 4 to six hours to reach 5 degrees, and that is only sufficient for 3 litres of syrup, in a closed, insulated box. To cool a room of 30+ degrees down to 10 degrees would likely take 24 hours or more, and only if the room was lined with cork or some other insulating material, or the coolness would dissipate through the walls before the room could cool.
    3) Finally, a Peltier element uses quite a bit of electricity, and would not be economical for such a use, or else you would see mass-marketing of Peltier air-co units world-wide. Peltier elements are also not cheap. The device as he shows here, would burn up in a matter of days (or hours) from improper dispersal of heat, the most common cause of breakdown in the field is either from dusty fans that become blocked, or if the machine is placed against the wall, so that the fan can't get rid of the generated heat. It's simple thermodynamics that you can't cool without generating heat, as actually you are not creating cold air, you are venting hot air to cool the desired area.
    I have used them with picnic cooling boxes in my car, plugged into the cigarette lighter with an adaptor, to keep my lunch cold while in the field doing repairs all day long in the summer.

      Agree. The approach in the video in the isoluted room will increased the average tempersture.
      The only assumption - theoritically the excess of the heat could be regenereted back into electricity and accumulated by another set of Peltier modules.
      To reduce the temperature means to relocate thevenergy to another place or regenerate.
      My goal is to use the thermoelectric effect in the air heat exchanger - ventilation system as a heat pump.

      "he lies" might be a rather big statement. Some part of this is due to translation issues, English is probably his second or third language.
      (And there's differences/MTI/NTI when you use English coming from a different native language vastly different from it)
      What you point out re cooling efficiency etc., is true, and to some extent he mentions the same wrt saying "packing" is required. Which contextually/colloquially is taken to assume that venting + some insulation is required.
      It's a great medium to exchange information, let's not assume everyone speaks a foreign (English) language the same way.

    the temperature indicator is merely showing the Peltier temperature, not the ambient temperature。 it does not make sense to use Peltier to cool the surrounding, this is the very inefficient device anyway, you have a done a nice job of creating this cooling device。

    you also need a small heat sink on the cold side along with a little fan to actually pump some of that could air out of your box. also you should setup the peltiers in a cascade. supply the bottom with 12 volts then put the hot side of the second onto the cold side of the first one and supply the top one with 5 volts. It will work waaay better. for best results, you should liquid cool the hot side and pump that hot air outside.

    You need to add heatsink on cold side and cut up some aluminium cans and jam in slots on heatsink to increase fin size and maximise air to cold surface contact area just like a real AC uses an evaporator. Also, water cooling hot side works better with salted water.

    temperature sensore at air outflow and further into the room would be good. For me i would add some insulation in the box or under the box (outside) to reduce the fan noise. I don't think my neighbors would like that sound. I wonder if a duct reducer is on the outside, and using a bigger fan would also work. i think i would prefer using a larger quieter fan, like 120mm or 140mm.

  • @erichpizer1

    a smaller fan or thinner fan with lower volume flow less noise and power is marginally slower only , to reduce heat. see for yourself. 1 deg celsius maybe compared to a large fan. the bottle neck is the surface area of your cooling fins not you fan size. same rule applies for car air conditioning . heat transfer is a function of time at slower air flow speed being more efficient to allow for heat transfer. that's why cranking up the fan in you car as you get in is counter productive to cool down the cab.

    It seems you used metal box not plastic box. However I find here few technical issues: (1) What's the max. temperature to be safe for this Peltier unit? (2) How long we can continue the unit at a stretch? (3) There is no heat sensor circuit to cut off the power supply after getting desired temp. or any delay circuit to protect the fan and other parts.

      Cyprian Guerra works just like a regular window ac which also works on the peltier effect. Which is why he put the hot end pointing outside when he did his demonstration on window mounting. He knows what he is doing.
      Edit: in essence both this unit and a window mounted ac are performing in the same way. Hot air outside, cool air inside. Window mounted ACs operate under a different effect than peltier modules do.

    • @cprn.
      @cprn. 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Panic The Scholar Knight. Real window AC works due to gas compression (Carnot's effect) and has nothing to do with Peltier's module, it's tens of times more efficient and process can be reversed to heating easily, e.g. in winter. Entirely different device and you either don't know what you're talking about or we seriously misunderstood each other.

    • @DobleWhiteAndStabley
      @DobleWhiteAndStabley 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Cyprian Guerra no, you're right. Window mount air conditioners work on carnots effect. Thank you for proving me wrong. However, the technical machinations of both of these units are the same. Heat is pulled out one end and cool air out of the other. In his example partway through the video, he had it mounted in the window like a standard window mounted AC. The hot air was vented out and the cool air was vented inside the room. The heatsinks are adequate for the unit. All in all he did a good job with what he had.

    • @Rroff2
      @Rroff2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Though its kind of hard to hear due to the noise and sound quality he does mention this is designed for cooling at maximum a 6 foot by 6 foot enclosed area assumedly with the hot side venting to an external environment - though in my experience you'd need more like a dozen of these devices to produce a significant change in an area of that volume using regular TEC1 12V Peltier modules.

    • @Rroff2
      @Rroff2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I say significant change I mean - you can run it a few hours and see any temperature drop in the scale of whole degree Celsius at all - you'd need far more to come remotely close to what you can do with a proper AC unit.

  • @Alexander-fc3nt
    @Alexander-fc3nt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    *In your case, you use a fake copper radiator And a very very loud server fan... The best option is: 1) use the radiator on the" hot "side in 3-5-10x times more than on the" cold " (look among the old spare parts), the larger the radiator, the slower the heating will go, and you can put a quieter cooler for cooling*

    excellent concept but a bit noisy. Also you appear to be reading the temperature inside the box while a reading at the outlet of the box would be more appropriate. How much power do you use. I hear peltier are only around 5% efficient.

    I wish you did not use those horrible loud 1u rack server fans, it would be a very good idea. Nontheless, it looks nice, but I would choose for air displacement and not small loud fans. Dissapate the heat and the cold by big 120 mm fans would also work, and saves a lot of earnoise in as outside the cooler. There are 120 mm fans that run on 5 to 24 volts, so with some electronics in between, the fans could blow harder when needed... That is how I would like it to be... Good video!!
