A very entertaining video, but it won't work that way. This small pump is not capable of generating enough pressure to compress the refrigerant. Additionally, there is no condenser present where the refrigerant can liquefy. The compressor pumps the refrigerant from the evaporator to the condenser, where the liquid refrigerant then flows to the expansion valve and expands into a gas, creating cold air. However, it doesn't work as shown in the video.

Such videos basically do not work. The motor does not play the role of a compressor. They are simply playing back a cheap machine that has been pre-cooled in the freezer to make it appear as if frost is forming. In reality, it never actually gets cold.
The air pump is acting like a compressor for the isobutane fuel and as it's compressed it gets hot but as it expands rapidly on the other side it gets cool just like a closed loop freon refrigeration system. Compressing a gas makes it hot, but a rapid expansion of the gas makes it get cold. This is a closed loop gas compression/expansion system. Instead of using freon as the gas, they are using isobutane fuel as the gas that is compressed, then allowed to rapidly expand to create the refrigeration looped system.
@@wmman8256I also rebuilt it and it doesn't work for me either. The air pump simply switches off if there is too much isobutane in the system and it does not work even with less gas. My only explanation would be that the pump builds up too little pressure?
So the single 9v battery will run a 12v fan and 12v pump without issue? Interesting, I feel like every time I didn’t use enough voltage my devices wouldn’t work correctly or at all.
Has anyone verified that this can work? Nobody should be congratulating him until it has been proven to suitably work and not another infinite energy type video.
It has all the components for a closed loop refrigeration system. The vapor pump pushes a warm gas through the condenser coil that cools and condenses it then the capillary tube acts as a metering device discharging a spray of liquid alcohol that is absorbing heat required to change state to a gas.

I think the principal is legitimate, if the pump has enough pressure generation to liquify tge gas and the expansion through the capillary would create cooling. As mentioned of course the air streams need separating.
None of the ductwork used to make this project shows the temperature of the copper duct at the back. Q = m.c.dt /// The heat gained and heat given off will be equal. But can provide short-term coolness. The basic principle of air conditioner and refrigerator. Until you expel the hot air from the environment, the result will not be very meaningful. Nevertheless, it may bring a little relief to residents of countries and cities who crave at least a light breeze.
Good Idea to get water outside, but first problem is to put gaz inside pipes without vacuum it, and secondly systeme is globally heating if it remain in the same room . Calories must go out !
Probably made money posting this video but anyone with any science background would know this would not work. That little plastic dc pump would never generate enough pressure. He took the shot of the coil getting cold as he was injecting more butane. Dumb.
its a vaccum pump, the pressure is generated by the lack of pressure on the cooler side, thats why the capillary pipe is essential, you wouldnt need one with a proper compressor
You've made a good demonstration of how a fridge works, but this wont work as an AC. Why not? Well, the way an AC works is by compressing one side of the loop and this in turn heats it up (think of the needle of a bike pump getting hot as you inflate a tyre). This side of the loop is usually outside of your house/car, and since it is now hotter than ambient you can use a radiator and fan to cool it down. When this high pressure cooled (to ambiant) air passes through the capillary, the pressure decreases and the temperature drops as shown. So whats the problem and why wont this work? 1. The hot and cold side are not separate and so any cooling effect in the smaller diamater coil will be matched by a heating effect in the larger coil. No net cooling of the room. 2. I suspect most of the cooling effect observed here is actually coming from the high pressure air from the aeresol can entering the system at a much lower pressure. You will see this whenever you use any aeresol spray. After this system runs for a while and reaches equilibrium, i doubt the air pump will be producing enough of a pressure difference in the hot and cold side to reach anything like those temps - which doesnt matter anyway because point 1.^
Really cool but you know what would be a really cool idea for you to make??? Tweak the air-conditioner to condense water out of air & then capture it in a container for drinking water, portable water making machine, power it with solar panels & leave it outside to collect your drinking water for free.
This would make a good drink cooler though. Having heat on the cool side while its in a correct orientation, a can of soda, and then blowing exhaust heat from the hot side would keep drinks cooler for a longer period of time. Great for an outdoor thing if you can make it hold multiple drinks and give it good insulation.
@@3v068nah, good sealing thermos is already enough for that. This thing require compressor that need quite amount of power, it wont work with this tiny pump, and the compression tube isnt as simple as made of spiral like that. To put simply refrigrator isnt designed for outdor or portable use, the built and required power is just to bulky to bring outside, well unless new tech is found.
the assembly is correct but if you use aerosol it will completely evaporate because there is a small gap between the gear and the dynamo, just use a peltier to cool the coil then let the cold empty air coil spin around
Well, in theory, concept could work, but that tiny motor pump and plastic piping on it... I wouldn't try. Plus, isopropane is quite flammable, and DC motors are well known for sparking on their comutators. I can't recommend this.
The room should heat up slightly but the heat in the small area is removed. It has its uses. For example it might be good to use on a small ice box where you need to remove a small amount of heat quickly and because the icebox is so well insulated, you don't need to keep the system running, which means its perfect to save on energy. It also might be good to cool a PC if you overclock it for a short amount of time.
If you chill the entire unit in a freezer before filling with isobutane, you can load it and have it condense into a liquid to make the filling easier. Very cleaver way of using the isobutane can with adapter and large 16 gauge needle to fill the vinyl tubing. Silicone tubing would last longer without leaking as much or drying out and cracking. Further separation and thermal isolation of the cold and hot side would result in more efficient performance. Also a wall adapter to power the unit instead of a single use primary 9vdc battery // etc

I love seeing all the young stupid people on the internet.....it's very entertaining. Much like the kids that say bro don't call an ambulance they're expensive.
I just wondering, there should be cooling radiator because when gas is pressurized you need to cool it down, both actions results to liquid butane (or another refrigerant), then when liquid goes to bigger pipe it evaporates and takes heat from the room in yet another radiator and cycle continues, this is only half a project maybe less, and I do not believe that it actually works, there are missing parts... Every refrigeration unit needs some sort of radiators (two of them actually).
excelente trabajo, podés decirme cuanto butano echar? Me encanta el proyecto! Felicitaciones 🍷! Gracias, espero tu respuesta...
To make it perfect the only part that need to be replaced is the brushed motor pump for a brushless dc motor pump instead, i wish to use the idea to make a mini fridge, maybe a valve from a bike tire to inject the gas to the system
lets clarify something here, 1st even if it works the problem is the thermodynamics do not work like this, like your home fridge that extract hot from the inside and take it outside there must be insulation for the heat not return immediately to the cold part, 2nd the internal pressure of the system can be too much for the pump and the flexible tubing to handle. Even if i try this diy experiment it will be with no illusion and with a grain of salt.
What is happening here is that the isobutane was already condensed when it was injected. What we are seeing is the expansion of that initial gas. It never gets recommended. This is just a complicated version of cooling something with a spray can
I really hope to one-day find a video of a real working mini ac. I know how it works an how to build one. I just want a small unit, at an affordable price. I m hoping somebody finds a way to homebuild a small compressor, pressure valve. If one you has a link, please share it with me, not only I will be very grateful, my dogs would be too.
Missed a major step , the air in the system has to be vacumned out , then topped up with refrigerant gas , to run properly thats why the pipes ice up , if you see a fridge compressor and the compressor is iced up , the diagnosis is the unit has lost its gas .
The compressor is the air pump, the pump *compresses* the air. The evaporator *evaporates* the coolant by absorbing energy from its surroundings, gas is a higher energy state, the energy must come from somewhere for the liquid to *evaporate* into gas. Ice builds up because the evaporater gets cold, cold enough that the water in the surrounding air loses enough energy and condenses on the surface before eventually losing enough energy and freezing onto the evaporators surface. If ice is building up, the unit is performing its intended purpose well, it does not mean there's anything wrong with it. If a unit loses its refrigerant, it will work less effectively until it loses all of its refrigerant at which point it won't cool at all, meaning that ice would never build up.
In the tube use AG and Carbon nanofluids, that will lower the temperature by 14.9%. Happy to help. I needcthis working for a built in freezer and refrigerated room in my House build. So every success and film an update olease.
The tube with lesser dia must be more in length. There is no compressor, to compress the refigerant. When compressed air/ refrigerant comes out of a small nozzle, there is a drop in temperature. Where is thermodynamics...?
All the snarky comments from lazy idiots who do nothing, makes me think less of the people who fail to make an edifying or complementary or constructive comment or idea / this is DIY out of cheap readily available materials & he made no claims about inventing anything, other than a small battery operated heat pumping device powered by a common 9v battery / this is not game changing, not new tech, just a fun interesting project to watch and with good editing!
You said it best......"to watch". How many morons are going to try this. Some things don't belong in the hands of idiots. There's a reason the A/C industry doesn't use isobutane. Stupidity needs to be put in check......immediately. I never said anything to discredit this guys knowledge of A/C, only how stupid it is to teach people without his level of know-how to play with highly flammable materials. You want a constructive comment......don't teach people on the internet how to build things the wrong way. There are a lot of stupid people out there, lets not add to the Darwin Award recipient's pool. Maybe his next video should be about how to weld with grandmas oxygen, a Bic lighter and some gasoline. I'd rather see him solder in a schrader valve and use freon than this. Worst case scenario you make a hole in the ozone, not catch on fire.
@@rbailey225What else should he have used? I am a newbie, so hence the question. I have made a sort of tunnel around my bed and I need something to cool it instead of ,y whole house. I cannot find small a/c anywhere. I thought of using an a/c from a car.
@@TinusTegenlicht anything not flammable.......This video is a crude demonstration of the process used in refrigeration. Nearly all gasses cool when expanded rapidly. I'm no expert in the field so I would refer you to research the Joule-Thomson effect. Air conditioning is a very inefficient process that requires lots of power. With no separation of the heat transfer process the net cooling effect of this demonstration is zero. That's the reason the compressor and condenser on your home A/C is outside.
@@TinusTegenlicht one of those countertop ice makers might work. You have to add a fan in the ice part and duct the cold air into the bed tunnel and leave the icemaker outside of the tunnel.
The only problem with the video is that the cooling effect only works if you are able to produce enough pressure in the system to compress the gas into a liquid. Then, it flows into the low pressure side of the system and expands back into a gas. However, assuming that this thing is operating at room temperature (ambient), this reaction would require 30 PSI+ to overcome the saturation pressure of isobutane, which you certainly can't get from a tiny pump and a 9v battery. Sorry.

Can alcohol allowed if no freon
Interesting. I never thought a pump could do the same work done by a compressor.
infatti, non lo fa.
You just hook a 9VDC pump up to 230VAC!

The tiny coil is a Thermal Expansion Valve. The left side is "relatively" under pressure. The right side is the low pressure side.

If it works show the temperature of condensor also ??
Really cool but you know what would be a really cool idea for you to make??? Will produce more heat on the hot side than frost on the cold side. Please refer to Lavoisier "nothing appears, nothing disappears".

Didn't even bother to tell everyone that this is a joke. The theory is correct except that the fan is on the evaporator and not the condenser.
the assembly is correct but if you use aerosol it will completely evaporate because there is a small gap between the gear and the dynamo, just use a peltier to cool the coil then let the cold empty air coil spin around
Well, in theory, concept could work, but that tiny motor pump and plastic piping on it... I wouldn't try. Plus, isopropane is quite flammable, and DC motors are well known for sparking on their comutators. I can't recommend this.
All the newer ac-s have izobutane inside
I just want to correct you pump cant compress gas they call it compressors instead of pump
There is no compressor. Just a fan moving air through the tubing. One can save time by putting an ice tray in front of a fan lol
thanks again for that project ...we are go to futur with you without fear
Thanks!!!
So the heat stays in the same room as well as the energy used to power the fan and pump. Means you’re actually heating the room.
Its a good educational video

If you chill the entire unit in a freezer before filling with isobutane, you can load it and have it condense into a liquid to make the filling easier. Very cleaver way of using the isobutane can with adapter and large 16 gauge needle to fill the vinyl tubing. Silicone tubing would last longer without leaking as much or drying out and cracking. Further separation and thermal isolation of the cold and hot side would result in more efficient performance. Also a wall adapter to power the unit instead of a single use primary 9vdc battery // etc
Creative video, thanks :)
This is not a prototype. This is refrigeration and it has been around for a hundred years. There are no new concepts here. This is a barbaric representation of the basics of refrigeration, only they have substituted a non flammable gas with a readily available and much more dangerous gas. I can see a bunch of people catching themselves or their garage on fire. Prototypes generally include improved technology.......this is stone age in the world of refrigeration.
Of course it doesn't work, the simple fact that he injects the butane with a syringe destroys any credibility.

To make it perfect the only part that need to be replaced is the brushed motor pump for a brushless dc motor pump instead, i wish to use the idea to make a mini fridge, maybe a valve from a bike tire to inject the gas to the system
Where can I get this motor and dual head
Nice implementation - Skills - Great project. Learned somethings.
lets clarify something here, 1st even if it works the problem is the thermodynamics do not work like this, like your home fridge that extract hot from the inside and take it outside there must be insulation for the heat not return immediately to the cold part, 2nd the internal pressure of the system can be too much for the pump and the flexible tubing to handle. Even if i try this diy experiment it will be with no illusion and with a grain of salt.
What is happening here is that the isobutane was already condensed when it was injected. What we are seeing is the expansion of that initial gas. It never gets recommended.
