    YAY!! Special Effects (SFX) makeup artists have been doing this for years and it's great to see this technique making traction. SFX makeup artists really have to know skull structure when doing contouring and shading for movie production. How to make a zombie face look super gaunt (aside from prosthetics), how to make someone look skinnier based on their movie character (ghostly, sickly, injured, matured, possessed, etc.). Or how to make a face look fuller based on their movie character.....the list goes on. Not sure why sfx makeup techniques haven't taken off and excited to see it start here in this video - well done 🙂

    yoo i've been doing this for years as part of my masculinising makeup. it's commonly used by transmasc people and drag kings. i don't normally watch contour videos because they normally end up emphasising feminine face shapes and obvs that is not what i want. but yeah, emphasising the bone structure is part of masculinisation. the other things i do are: contour under my jawline to emphasise the sharpness; contour vertical lines directly up from my brow arch to square off my forehead/hairline and then a horizontal line across my face above my brows; emphasise the nostrils by contouring around them and then the diagonal lines that come off them to deepen that and then with my chin it's like your lip contour but lower over the arch of the chin (and then for a personal preference i do a little butt chin). but yeah, if you like this kind of contour check out what the transmascs and drag kings are doing.

Unless I want maximum hold for like, a party or a very long day I skip primers and face powder and just bronze and blush with light, cream products. I used to wear powder foundation, heavy coverage and tons of pressed powder in my 20s and 30s because of very oily, textured skin, and changing that mindset has definitely been difficult, but Bobbi Brown and Wayne Goss have great tutorials for mature skin and I keep learning.

    This is a solid tutorial! Tips: Instead of just sucking your cheeks in, and drawing straight from the line you suck in towards your mouth, (we see that a lot in other tutorials) here’s what you can do:
    First, find your cheekbones (if you have to suck in your cheeks to find them, that’s ok but, don’t draw a line there!
    Now, find the rounded bottom of your cheekbones - use your fingertips, not just your eyes, until you know exactly where the bottoms really are
    Now, draw a **curved** line (like in this video) right up against the bottom of your cheekbones.
    Don’t go all the way to your mouth. Look at the video and stop right about where you have lines when you smile widely, or before that.
    Now, you can either just stop 🛑 and don’t go any further or you can go straight down, following the curve of your face (for the same effect as in the video)
    Blend - just until there are no harsh lines or strong color differences - and done!
    See video, she explains that over blending will make it muddy or undo what you’ve done, but beware under blending will leave weird stripes.
    Another tip is to choose how much dark your contouring should be based on lighting - you can get away with stronger, more dramatic contouring at night in low lighting, like in candlelight or more intimate lighting like many restaurants. Or, where there’s less light and more dramatic lighting like clubs, or the theater. In daylight and bright spaces, less shading is fine. You won’t be washed out with less contouring, because your contour will appear stronger.
    Also, bronzer makes a great daytime contour. I just use a little tinted moisturizer with a very fine, dewy shimmer, which looks sunkissed. I can get away with a believable suntan year round Bc I live in Florida, but you might live in an area with much less sunshine and pinkish bronzer or a matte without shimmer looks windswept and lovely as an alternative to sunkissed.
    You’ll find how much higher and more defined your cheekbones are.

All the same contour techniques were in there, which I experimented with back in the late '70's. I'll pull it out if I have a special occasion that requires a dressy event. I don't really feel like I need to contour my face, but have always been kind of interested in figuring out what kind of contour style would work for me. I don't usually wear makeup. And when I do, I don't use foundation at all. Maybe a little concealer to brighten up my eyes and loose powder to set it and lightly set my moisturizer/oil. I think that makes attempting contouring very difficult though - no base of a foundation and dewy skincare. So it'd be nice to see a contouring video for minimal makeup.

    • @sebumpostmortem
      @sebumpostmortem ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Call-me-Al He doesn' t specify wich skull, if yours as it is or how you want it to look😉. The point is that Baltasar, and any trully skilled MUA (also painters or sculptors) see our faces as a lasagna with several layers not as a "white canvas" in 2D to draw and colour. It takes a deep anatomy knowledge to slay contour. What we have, what we want to enhance, what we choose to soften, what we want to optically modify and how to achieve it... And that implies working bearing the skull in mind in spite of applying the product on top of two layers (muscles and skin). We sustain the theory that a doctor (a maxilofacial, for example) would be able to do a better contour than plenty of self called "MUA's" that once read "from the ear to the comisure". The idea is that make up doesn' t take place on the surface, does it make sense? 😅

      @@sebumpostmortem yup, I was just objecting to the "bring the skull to the surface" bit, because sometimes you don't want to amplify your bone structure. Keeping the 3D shape in mind on the other hand is very important. I take my face muscles and their movements in mind for my makeup, especially the lower eyelid and upper eyelid make-up. It has to work with a moving face, because I am not a photo model whose makeup only has to work in one angle.

      It' s a thing, it' s a thing😉. Absolutely every optical illusion you may imagine, voilà, this is what make up is about. Some people have it naturally and it increases as we age but not everybody loves it, of course. Not everybody loves chubby cheeks, on the other side. It' s a mater of _chiaroscuro_ shadow/ light and blush placement. Hope she will do it soon 🧛🏻‍♀️🖤

    This is so funny. 4 Halloweens ago I did a "random face drawing scull accompanying- my- kid- trick- or- treating" skull contour with some dark eye shadow. I was like "woah, that looks really anti ageing wonder if i can do this in real life" Saw you doing this a few vids ago and was thought "guess I can💀" LOL

    this is the first video of yours I've seen, and i just wanna say i LOVE the choice of having no background music. it makes it feel cozy and relatable in a way. like this is no shade to other MUAs on yt, but sometimes the level of production in their videos makes it feel disjointed and almost unapproachable, and i feel like a lot of that has to do with the very quiet house music that they put on while they're blending or just as a baseline track throughout the video. this feels like I'm just hanging out with someone who wanted to show me this new makeup thing they saw on tiktok. lovely work, this contour looks AWESOME on you, can't wait to try it the next time I'm dolling up!!

      Ladies, we are a total historical type! A best friend in HS modeled, and she had sharp features. Honestly she never looked the same in pictures as real life and she knew it. She explained how I had soft features that don't photograph as well, but that in person I'd stand out. That was very thoughtful of her, and as I've aged I've learned a baby face is desirable, too. 😎❤️

    I really enjoyed this. As a pro artist, these are looks we create on clients without "contouring" the face with "sticks and stuff". We just do it, as we go... 🤷🏼‍♀️ I was concerned about the darkened nose, because some end up looking like Rudolph...but it's pretty here.
    Nice work. 💜

    that is suuuuper interesting to see and I am all for knowing your bone structure and what works for you. In my case, I do have a quite defined bone structure, so going in with a light bronzer is what works perfectly. But I use to contour a little tinsy bit when I was younger (early 20s) and that my face was naturally a bit more full.

I’ve been trying this scull contour I’ve been seeing everywhere on my face but I have those same puffy jowl things that you have (they tend to get more pronounced too around the holidays when I’m eating everything 😂) and this contour was making them more obvious. You can hardly notice them if I do nothing but with the scull contour it was making them very apparent. This is so smart and I don’t know why I didn’t think of it! 🙌🙌🙌

    This makeup really works on you. I have a very small nose with a pointed tip so doing the skull nose thing is a super bad idea for me.
    I think there is an individualized skull for most people. I like to do more contour under the chin and nothing on the center of the nose.

    • @pneuma6202
      @pneuma6202 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All the same things would apply in technique, you just need to find the right shade of contour! Keep in mind you are creating shadows, so to find something that enhances a shadow, and not to do too dark! Generally its something more cool or neutral toned (shadows aren't warm) Find your undertones, (cool, neutral, warm... I believe darker skin tones can be more red or blue, but I'm unsure of how deep your skin is and I'm v cool pink fair-light so idk how much help I'd be there) there's test you can find online to guide you! then its best to get a cheap contour palette with multiple shades and experiment, mix colors, ect. Hope this may help a bit?
