  • It's Tally Bally Here! My 1st ride and review of the New Triumph Street Twin 900!
    I had to wait to be able to post this on here as the launch isn't until Thursday night (the 11th Feb), but here it is!
    Hope you all enjoy. I do waffle rather, but I hope that I have covered the most salient points...
    Apologies for the wind noise in the walkaround section. I have tried to stifle it with technology but it's still there. One byproduct of this is that that section of the video is a bit quieter, so be careful if you wear earphones after this section! :-)
    Feel free to ask further questions in the comments below.
    It's a very exciting time for Triumph fans with the new Bonneville range and the Speedy and the Tigers...
    All that is left for me to say is:
    TALLY BALLY HO!
    And of course, many many thanks to Thomas and the team at Herts Triumph for allowing me to play with this bike and others! I am really honoured and happy to be able to do this!
    Ta ta! Pip pip!

    Thanks for the review! It helped alot. I've been looking at the 2017 for months and found a leftover at a great price due to the age. I'm buying it today and will be upgrading the front brakes and shocks based on your review. Muchas Gracias! Safe riding my friend.

      Ha ha! Yes. But I'm reserving final judgement on the fact that I know the Bonnie and Thruxton are going to be these but more.... Hnnnnnnn....

      @TheMissendenFlyer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Captain Rambunctious Yeah I do like the look of the T120 I must say - such a shame they didn't reserve the scramblerisation option for one of those beasties.... But the Street Twin sounds like fun, may have to take her for a spin and see.....great job on the review by the way, thorough, I like that.....

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheMissendenFlyer I reckon you'll be able to get the higher pipes on the 1200 too, but if you are getting a Scrambler, I reckon you'd go for the lighter and lighter looking 900 anyway... Maybe that was their thinking?

    • @peterford9369
      @peterford9369 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You all talk about the size of the 900 , and yes Cap, ur knees were almost to the front of the tank. But isn't the 900 slightly larger than the 1200 ? It must be all in the peg position and seat frame difference, cause the 1200 does seem taller. And I know Mr Flyer is shorter than 6ft, so either would be fine for him. I'm 5'11 and certain bikes feel small to me.
      Nice to see y'all talk shop. Must be nice to have a job having fun riding many new bikes . Ride safe guys.

    Goddamn you’re entertaining. And I’m an actor. So we’ll done. This damn street twin. I go back n forth between this and the t100. But the twin is now winning.

    To counter some of the comments from those stuck in an unhappy life, I just had to say, Well done! There are 2 reasons to watch your review videos: your thoroughness and your personality. Funny story. My wife was walking past me while I was watching this video. Upon hearing your voice and laugh, she stopped and asked, "What on earth are you watching?" I said, "A video from this guy who does lots of great Triumph reviews. He goes by the name Captain Rambunctious." To which she said, "Of course he does!"

    That brake reservoir is fugly. Why not a chrome or blacked out container. A piss yellow plastic container is disappointing.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mark Masztal Ah, a £50 accessory... Hence I mentioned that I'd do it. I'm not sure if it's a safety directive to have a plastic one as standard or if they are being cheap about it, but a lot of new bikes have them as standard these days and you have to get them as extras... Even my Tiger would have had one the same if I had had the base model...

    I think Triumph went to a 270 degree crank to emulate the sound of a V twin engine. I have heard a few newer Triumphs and the sound is sexy!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's the one! The old air cooled scrambler was the only 270 degree crank and the bonnies were 360... with a smoother sound. But people loved the thump of the 270 so all the new ones are 270 to get that slightly artificial sound... I love it...

  • @padraigtomas3617

    What options would someone like me, who is 6 foot 3 inches tall have with respect to the Street Twin? Would the bike be an awkward fit?Does the seat have any adjustment for height? Would a t120 seat fit? Even if the Bonneville frame is identical across the product line, the side covers may or may not be work with another seat for practical reasons.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am fully aware of your issues. I'm 6'1" but with long legs and a short body. For example my legs are the same length as my brother's and he is 6'4". I'd have thought you'd be comfortable enough as I was, but the bench seat that comes with the brat tracker and scrambler inspiration kits are a bit higher so therefore more comfortable and you can get those on their own without paying for the full inspiration kits if you don't want to, but I can say that the brat tracker kit really is a nice combo...
      I hope the 1200s will be a bit more roomy but I have to wait until March to get my hands on one of those!
      I hope this helps a bit.
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

    When you're trying to do cinematics on a bike but the sun won't come out. Nice review, though. Personally, I like this bike a lot, but have no plans to trade my '13 Bonneville for one. Still, they are uber sexy. Great job, Triumph.

      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tim Kreitz Adventures Yes, they've done an excellent job. I think that if you already have a Bonnie, then the 900 won't persuade you, but I think the 1200 might... Will see about that in a month's time... :-)

    Nice looking bike, but it can easily be mistaken to be an RE Interceptor which costs one third here, in India and Indian roads will be filled with Interceptors in a few months !
    Honestly, this is one of the reasons I didn’t buy a Street Twin (and bought a Kawasaki Vulcan S instead)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, especially as they are built there! I hope that I'm not being too blaze but one assumes that the street twin is better than the RE? Better handling with more performance anyway...

      Captain Rambunctious : I have not ridden either Interceptor or Street Twin, but it goes without saying that Street Twin is a more refined version of Interceptor. In addition, it has higher capacity engine with better Power /Torque and more advanced features ( Ride by wire ?, Traction Control, Riding Modes, Tubeless tires, Liquid Cooling etc..)

    It's a no from me. Undoubtedly a capable modern bike, but it's not a Bonneville. It doesn't sound like one and never will. I'd buy one over a Ducati Scrambler any day. But it's just not my bag sadly. I hope Triumph sell them by the bucket load and that they bring loads of young bikers onto the roads. I've already voted with my feet and wallet ( as you probably know). A good review and rightly positive, but the concept misses this old coot completely. I do look forward to seeing your reviews of the other models, and the new Thruxton does look bloody sexy, so still plenty to look forward to, except of course the retail prices of the bigger twins!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +pgod1960 Yes. If I had a Classic Bonnie, I wouldn't trade it in for this. However, it will definitely get some 'new blood' into the classic franchise I reckon and should easily blow the Ducati Scrambler out of the water. Need to find a good day to ride it again and record....
      BUT, the 1200s will be another step up I reckon. Already 10kgs lighter than the old classics, but also more powerful. The T120 engine is about 80bhp with about 90ftlbs of torque. It's going to have immense pulling power... The Thruxton is more power, so about 95bhp and 80 ftlbs torque... I'm salivating just typing these figures. When you think that the old stock Bonnie is 68bhp and 50 ftlbs torque, this is going to be one massive improvement and worth the extra money (subject to a test ride of course)... If the handling and low down weight of the Street Twin is anything to go by, the handling of the 1200s will be much much better too, so I can't wait until they come out... Woo! :-)
      Thanks for watching as always...

      Hello guys, firstly sorry for commenting on an old video, and excuse my ignorance but I have a question. What distinguishes this street twin from the t100/t120? It seems like you can modify one bike into another to some extent. I'm very new to all this, but day by day the yearning for a bike gets stronger, and the Bonneville calls the loudest. Hope this reaches you and if you have the time for an answer that'd be great!

    This review is a bit more Rambunctious "over the top" effusiveness than I would express, but when I rode a sample in Ft Worth it is all accurate. I wish I had an excuse to buy this. It is one happy, easy machine. Blandness comes because it is meant to please many different audiences. Most Triumph enthusiasts customize anyway, so the "bland" is almost moot. REALLY a thoroughly pleasant and fun machine that any motorcyclist can get on and ride well immediately. Not much to "get used to". Good Video, Captain!

    Hi did you do a back to back review on the old 865 bonny v the new street twin ?

  • @turbo311
    @turbo311 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What blows my mind about these new 900 and 1200 engines is how undertuned they are for emissions. The MT-07 and SV650 get 75hp from their smaller engines but are still Euro4. The 900 should be making at least 70hp and the 1200 should make 100hp or more.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I completely agree with you. The BMWs put out a lot more for the same displacement... Maybe the engines are made to last longer?? But that's clutching at straws.
      It's fairly easy to get more out of them, but you're right, you shouldn't have to...

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +djiatro Hmmm, well I am 6'1" and I found it a bit small but in a good way? I have longer legs, 33" inside leg, and so my knees felt quite high up, but they were more than comfortable and so was the seat so it didn't really matter!
      And the bike is so agile that the positioning almost made it easier to ride...
      Hope this helps... I would always advise riding it first though before making any decisions as we are all different in our preferences and opinions.

    Awesome review good Sir!
    I've sat on the ST, the T120 and the Thruxton R at our annual motorcycle show a few weeks ago. I know what you mean by the small feel of the ST...I'm about your build. Coming right off my 2013 T100, where my legs are normally at 100 degree bend, on the T120 they felt at about 90 degree bend...much more relaxed. The Thruxton R is getting all the excitement at the shows...can't wait for your review on that beast...not sure I'm ready for such a thing with my 1st year riding anniversary still two months away!
    P.S.: You must have a word with your continuity checker...when you first got on the bike & drove away, we clearly saw your Knox back protector showing through your Raven leather...but then you had your back pack on rest of the ride ;-)

      +SpinyBiker Ha ha! Yes indeed... But also wait until the 1200s are out. I am now SOOO excited about the 1200 Thruxton R! Because if this is the improvement on the 900, the 1200 should be amazing... And only 220kgs too so still 10kgs lighter than the old ones... and this with a 1200 liquid cooled engine... They've worked some magic!!!

    Cracking review as always chap!
    Now, I'm a massive modern Triumph fan, and always will be, probably, but this bike just doesn't do it for me I'm afraid. It's obviously a very enjoyable ride, going by your reactions, but it's just not inspiring. I'm sorry, it's just looks so boring to me. It doesn't even strike me as retro cool. :o(
    Please don't hate me Triumph.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rob Ash I know where you are coming from. It's a bit bland looking, hence the different kits and then you can make it your own! I think the T120 or Thruxton may be more up your street... :-)

      +Captain Rambunctious I agree with Rob completely and the fact they spent so much time on kits and add ons almost makes it seem like you have to spend more to peel off the bleh. Seems like for all the engineering they put in they could have used the brain power to keep the retro cool and up the performance but *shrugs*I hope the company is not depending on this for survival after the string of hits they have had.I will say, good review though, and the only review I thought worth commenting on :)

      Ah! This might be a case of lost in translation. Over here it's a parallel twin. What you think a parallel twin is we would call a flat twin... I think that's what you are saying. Yes it's a vertical twin but in the UK we call it a parallel twin, just as my Thruxton was as well...

    I am on a 125 for now and will do my A2 and so on this summer. Wondered if this would be a good bike straight from training or whether better to go for a 400/600 for a while. Seems it has less HP than some 600s but still quite a heavy bike compared to a 125 of course. Tally Bally Safety advice welcome :)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No problem Brian. More than capable of being a first bike... I went straight on to my Bandit 600 and it was far heavier and less good handling... This is light and easy to ride and low too so plenty of flat footing for confidence if needed...

    Capt, I test rode one on tues . I too was impressed more low down oooomph than my modified ( increased power T100 ) nice ride great brakes can't fault it for what it is .
    For me seat height was too low ( I'm only 5'8") and pegs too far back . I have a steel leg with only 90 deg movement .
    Looking forward to the T120 might suit me better .

    It's a lovely bike and in truth all around a better performer, but it just doesn't seem like a bonnie to me. Literally everything is different and while it makes for a better bike i feel like it lost some character. But maybe im weird in that i love the quirks of the older style. i like that it feels like an old bike, not the best ride but always there and ready. i hope for the new owners the liquid cooled motors are as rock solid if not more than the air cooled ones. enjoy your triumphs and ride safe friends!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kenny Thanks for your comment Kenny. I know exactly what you mean, as little quirks and foibles give character. For example, I loved the fast idle knob, but loads of people thought it ridiculous. I also liked the old feel of the brakes, the suspension and the steering...
      However, this is such a good update, and I believe that it was necessary for Triumph to continue to compete and excel with the current competition and their updates...

      Not sure about my bad knee and the riding position though so we'll have to see when I test it!
      Sounds like it will need a better seat though!
      They pretty much said all that I would have done, so not sure what I'll say if I review it that is different apart from a few more Tally Bally Hos and bloody hells!

    Sounds quite good for a liquid cooled motor and the ignition key is in the right place. But given the choice, I will still take back my 2007 Bonneville Black with Arrow pipes, carburetor and oil cooler. It's too much modern stuff on a dated platform, like the Milwaukee machines. Don't get me wrong, I still love Triumph.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +motonut Oh I completely understand. Someone just asked me if I had the chance of being given either my old Thruxton or this, which would I have... I said that it would depend on if it was my only bike. If it were my only bike, and I had to take into account fuel consumption, comfort and weather proofness (not a real word...), then I'd have to be sensible and go with the Street Triple. HOWEVER, if it was just a matter of being given one of the two, then I'd have my old Thruxton back...
      BUT, and it's a massive BUT... I'm waiting true judgement against the old Bonnevilles with the new 1200 T120 and Thruxton. I have a sneaking suspicion that the new 1200s will be faster and lighter than the old ones, and therefore I'd definitely go with the Thruxton R. It comes with all the things that I would do to the old Thruxton already done... And although it is pricey (£11500), my old Thruxton cost me almost that in total after I had got it to where I wanted it...
      Will see! :-)
      Thanks for watching!

    • @shreedevi2005
      @shreedevi2005 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Captain Rambunctious Right! They will definitely be lighter and faster. And one can't blame Triumph for doing that because they can't keep selling the same model year after year with no improvements but it does take away from that elemental Triumph character which was still present (to some degree) in those older Bonnies and Thruxtons. I considered cam cover oil leaks on my 2007 Bonnie as character ... ;-)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      motonut Precisely! However, this has character of its own. It could have been like the Tiger which is excellent but possibly flawed in the fact that it is so good at what it does is that it is therefore a bit dull and lacking in character. We like bikes that have a personality. The Street Twin is just a fun vivacious little bike, which gives it a labrador puppy sort of personality. Eager to please and fun and exciting...

    I’m disappointed to hear that it has a 270° crank. I like 180° parallel twins. I think Edward Turner would have wanted 180°.
    The 180° twin is a smoother sounding thing with a regular beat. That is the spirit of the Triumph twin. The 270° parallel twin sounds like a V twin which is fine if it actually is a V twin, but to me it is just sort of wrong with a parallel twin.

      +brighton dude You are right of course that the 360s are more in line with tradition, but for fun and low down scrambler pretentions, it is spot on! After all, if you want a bonnie, the 1200 will be a 360 firing interval! :-)
      Excellent point though... It's not one for the purists! I should have said that as well!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Paul Thompson Sorry Paul, I have tried, but there are 2 problems with that.
      1) People have said that they can't hear me when I don't shout, and I can't move the mic any closer to my mouth and I can't turn up the sensitivity on the microphone or there's too much wind noise, but
      2) I can't help being enthusiastic! I can try to not shout so much, but I'd still shout at times and then I'd have to keep putting in warnings to people, so it's best if it's all the same volume so all the viewer has to do is turn it down and no have to keep turing the volume up and down all the time? Makes sense?
      Oh well, I do try. I appreciate the feedback and thank you for watching and taking the time to comment!
      Until next time!

    200kg is not that light come on..

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      😁 It is when you’re used to much heavier ones. Other 600s are about 220 so compared to those it is light. Also, the geometry is so quick that it feels even lighter. When I say light, I don’t just mean the actual weight but how it feels and where the weight is. It’s low down and doesn’t feel top heavy.
      Yes, 200 isn’t light as such... 120 would be but then you’re looking at 250s etc... maybe I should emphasise that it feels light...

  • @michaelcaton9358
    @michaelcaton9358 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love the look of these but what I don't understand is the pricing. It is cheaper in just about every country they sell them than in the uk. I also think £7300 is a quite expensive for what is quite a basic motorcycle. Basic looking twin cylinder mated to a 5 speed box. Singe disk brake. No locking petrol cap or rev counter from what I can see. Should we be paying more for less? What is the monetary value of nostalgia?

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Caton I see your frustrations, but there are more improvements anyway. For a start, the filler cap IS lockable as standard, you just slide the circle in the middle to the side... You get traction control, better pipes, ABS and better seats and all the other components are better quality than before. For example, even the levers are adjustable as standard other than on other bikes... Compared with other bikes of the type, Ducati Scrambler and Yamaha MT-70, it is a marked improvement in quality and ride. It hasn't the power of the Ducati, but it has more torque and the ride is better and more comfortable...
      I don't know about the prices in other countries, but I personally feel that £7300 is an excellent price for a twin with all these toys, comfort and quality...
      If I hadn't got my eyes on the 1200 Thruxton, I would definitely consider swapping my Tiger 800 XRT for this bike with the Scramler or Brat Tracker Kit installed...
      I hope that i may have answered well enough...

      +Captain Rambunctious Suspect the MT-07 is a better overall package for quite a bit less. Doesn't have the cool hipster retro vibe though. But just for comparison sakes, I bought my old suzuki bandit (650) for £4k brand new. I can't imagine you will ever need traction control on a bike that makes that sort of power but if your going to throw that in on the deal, I won't say "no" but wouldn't go looking for it. I like the bike and not meaning to be contrary just interested in it as package and the value it represents really. But then oscar wilde did say, 'a cynic is a man that knows the price of everything but the value of nothing"- Not sure what that makes me.....

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 ปีที่แล้ว
