Good morning from California. I had to stop by to say “Thank you!” Tidelands was a complete joy. Imagine my surprise when I learned there are two additional books in the series. Yay!
I read Tidelands about 3 years ago and found it so realistic and sad that I chose not to continue the series. It was beautifully written and I assume very accurate for the times. As I am an independent, outspoken female, I am indeed thankful to be living in the 21st century!! Congratulations on 6K! I enjoy your videos very much!
I started reading Philippa Gregory when I was probably too young to do so (I was about 13 or 14) but the young adult section wasn’t doing it for me any more in terms of historical fiction. She’s had her hooks in me ever since! I have been more into mysteries lately and have missed Tidelands but you’ve convinced me to give it a shot! I will also say that Ken Follett’s Kingsbridge books are some of my all-time favorites, and while I’ve never really read any of his spy novels, even as a fan, I understand and can agree with some of the criticism towards his work. I look forward to hearing what you think of A Dangerous Fortune!
This was one of the first audiobooks I’ve listened to as I would rather read, but I was riveted despite recognising the importance of the pointers towards the danger of being a midwife at that time and feeling they were a bit too obvious! I I hadn’t realised that there were not one but two sequels, wonderful. Thank you for your review.

I've not read Ken Follett either and didn't realise he was an historical fiction author, yet another one to check out. Despite now being retired I am still unable to catch up with my list of TBR's as it keeps growing at too fast a pace to keep up with, especially since joining your subscribers a few months ago 😂. I have enjoyed Ken Follet books but have not read many; I may start with the same one as you and see if we both have a similar overall impression of the story. I think it interesting how each person interprets a story and what appeals to them and what may not.

I had a Yorkie as a child named Teddy. You definitely need to read the Ken Follet book the pillars of the earth! It's part of the Kingsbridge series. You won't be able to put it down. I have to comment on my reading after watching your video about unputdownable books I have read Douglas Kennedy but not the one you recommended. A special relationship. I got it from the library and as you say, I couldn’t put the damm thing down. I didn’t get any housework done for two days, my husband had to cook and I got very little sleep for two nights. I read until 3 am in the morning. I loved the book and have another to read but I’m scared to start it. Many thanks for a brilliant recommendation.

I even get that impression with fiction set in the 18th and even 19th century. Western society has come a long way, even though there’s still room for progress. Maybe I’ll gather enough courage to read the book. Thanks!

The first book you described seems like one I read by Philipa Carr. Does that name ring a bell, or was she an author too? It seems like the same story too, but I read it so long ago that I very well could be wrong. 😊 Let me know if you are wise about it. Thanks so much. Tidelands does sound so good, I love Tilly. ❤
Philippa Carr was a historical novelist who also wrote under the names of Jean Plaidy and Victoria Holt. She was mainly known for historical romances and family sagas. Philippa Gregory is more recent - and in my opinion - a better writer. But Carr/Plaidy/Holt's books are good reads too!

I think that was 'The Stone Circle' by Elly Griffiths - it's part of a series, so you might want to look up the first one, though I think they can be read on their own too (someone correct me if I'm wrong!).
