Innocent Traitor was my first Alison Weir and is wonderful! We are very lucky to live near Bradgate Park and I love to visit and soak up the history and beauty of the place.
Way late to the party here, but I have to recommend The Sunne in Splendour by Sharon Kay Penman. It's not technically a Tudor novel as it's about Richard III. It's an incredible novel and quite accurate. Penman humanizes Richard in a beautiful way. Would highly recommend. Another novel that I need to give a shout out too is The Nine Days Queen by Kathleen Bradford. It's a YA novel about Lady Jane Grey that I picked up in middle school back in the mid 2000s. It was my first introduction to Tudor history. This novel is so underrated. It is a beautiful, age-appropriate telling of Jane's story to pre-teens. I cried at the end every single time I devoured it which was quite a few times over the years.
Yay! I am such a fan of Tudortember! I have a bunch of Jean Plaidy, but have only read a few so far. I do like them and I agree, I think she does write accurate historical fiction. In the Shadow of Lady Jane sounds great! I have a number of the Alison Weir series and I am very excited to get into those! The Secret Diary of Anne Boleyn is at our library! I put it on hold. I have the paperback version of The Lady Elizabeth - but that hardcover is gorgeous! Innocent Traitor is now on hold at my library as well. A tudor series that I love is the Shardlake series by C.J. Sansom. They are set during the reign of Henry VIII and are just fantastic! Great video! Thanks for the recommendations!

I second the CJ Sansom books. They are fabulous. I have all the Alison Weir ones mentioned and love them too. I managed to get a bundle of 10 Jean Plaidy for £10 - sadly I couldn’t get through them - so dry and boring. She wrote one on Thomas More (can’t recall the title) I couldn’t finish it. Ended up donating them to charity shop having read 2.5 of the 10. It’s so funny how some books work for some people but not for others.

I love the Anne of kleves one so far I did read another fiction book about Katherine Howard it was called the unfaithful queen it was so good and sad too . Jean plaidy is a great author for sure too

I have to say I was surprised you did not mention any Philippa Gregory books. In fact my love for historical fiction from that period started with the The Other Boleyn Girl written by her. Loved her style. And actually your videos made me nostalgic about that period, and yesterday I started reading Three Sisters, Three Queens, the book that starts with Margaret, Henry 8's sister., written by her. OH my so many memories with some of the books and authors you've mentioned. I would have to check my old book journals to see which were my favorites, but one of Henry VIII, (whom I'd always despised) was The Autobiography of Henry VIII: With Notes by His Fool, Will Somers by Margaret George and that put him in a new perspective.
I have just started on Alison Weir's series with Katherine of Aragon. And so far it looks wonderful. I too have always been fascinated by Lady Jane Grey....she seemed an incredibly strong person for one so young. Have you ever read The Autobiography of Henry VII by Margaret George? She writes so well that Henry seems just a little more human! I devour anything I can on Tudor history and very much appreciate your reviews. Another favorite is Child of the Morning by Pauline Hedge. Not Tudor history but Egyptian actually...and one if the best fiction books I have ever read. One I have read many times. It is about Queen Hatshepsut who proclaimed herself Pharoah when her husband died. Another strong independent royal woman...she and Elizabeth would have understood each other well! One I would recommend after Tudortember is over!
I have all the Six Wives (5 so far) lined up on my shelf in the same way you have, Lil! I agree about some being better than others, which is inevitable I suppose but what did you think about the Anne Boleyn one? Agree with you about Edward having the potential to be a lot worse than Henry but then, as a Catholic, I guess I would say that! :)
I didn’t mind the Anne Boleyn one, Alison Weir is very clear that Katherine of Aragon is her favourite of the wives to write about so she struggled a bit with Anne Boleyn but I thought it was good.
Just read the Boleyn King series by Laura Andersen. It take a different timeline approach. What if Anne and Henry's son had survived. If she hadn't miscarried. It's a fascinating trilogy of books. Was a little disappointed in the last book but still a great read. Anyone have any suggestions along these lines?
I started Alison Weir's "Six Tudor Queens" series a while ago, and while I got on fairly well with the first book, I absolutely HATED the second! I thought it quite biased against Anne (especially when compared with book 1) and it put me off the entire series. Do you think I should give it another go and pick up book 3?
Yes, book 3 on Jane is really good and a really strong book in the series in my opinion. And if you can make your way to Katheryn Howard that is just 5 stars!!

I loved The Lady Elizabeth and need to get to Innocent Traitor. Alison Weir really knows how to write fiction as well as non-fiction.
