Great Epee is a fantastically underrated heavy option. Fast, can exploit high strength for greatshield thrusting as opposed to keen, and only a fraction less damage than keen stitcher with the option of two handing. And lets not forget that fantastic lunging attack. All in all, an amazing sidearm for any strength build, that compliments slow, heavy swing options.
The Great Epee and Banished Knight Shield has become a such standard on all of my melee builds that I default to Vagabond as a starting class just to start using them sooner. I love The Great Epee's unique heavy attack so much and it always catches people off guard during PvP.
Stitcher is great for status buildup because of its double-hit charged heavy attack. Beyond that, the Epee tends to feel better in PvE because thrusting swords tend to have few options outside of special skills to deal with crowds, but the Epee has the horizontal slash for that.

Gspears powerstanced as so insanely powerful due to literally 1 move, the crouch L1. super fast 12 frame startup and borderline unreactable if you use "wavedashing"/ crouch buffering. I highly recommend powerstanced treespears for their great range and high damage on a dex/faith build, but if you want to be an absolute menace you can use powerstance vykes on the same build. Takes 3 cL1s to win any fight if they don't bollus. Once madness procs you get a free jumping l1 that'll typically kill whoever you're fighting.

Absolutely no :P but I'm going to have a load of fun while invading and dueling in that equally awesome and hated crucible fashion ;P
Im running my first NG+ Dual wielding Bloody Helice + Blood Godskin Sticher and of course Lord of Blood's Exultation + Spear Talisman the Helice ash of war makes make this combination alot of fun to dodge around while being able to cause alot of dmg with bloodloos and counters
I think the best way to resolve the differences between the epee and stitcher is to do what I do and powerstance them. Why choose when we can have our cake and eat it too?

Started up a Godskin Noble build a while ago mostly just due to how sexy that Stitcher is. (and also the blackflame spells are fun, plus Aspect of the Crucible: Tail/Lightning Ram/Golden Slam for the special attacks the noble uses)
We think very similarly. I was going to do a dusk eye Queen build with black flame and godskin weapons, but I ended up really enjoying the crucible incantations so I switched over to role playing a dragon lady lol

Can someone explain to me how to reverse dynast finesse. The hélice has been my main weapon for months but I still don’t know how to turn 180 degrees on the follow up. Edit: I couldn’t find this info anywhere online but somebody did some testing for me and concluded that you need a minimum of 34fps to manually control the follow up.
You can: #1 Free aim the entire thing so you can control both where your character goes OR #2 Free aim while you're dodging and then lock on right before you do your heavy attack follow up EDIT: You don't need a minimum of 34 FPS. I can do it on FPS locked at 30 cap on my potato laptop that I don't use for recording (it barely gets over 25 FPS without anything around). You simply need to tap the direction you want to reverse it in which is a queued action. It will have nothing to do with FPS.
Great video as usual. I've been going through and watching all of your Elden Ring weapon videos. I'm sure you've heard enough about the word Epee ( Ep "like Epstein" - Aye) at this point. But I haven't seen anyone say anything about Helice, which is pronounced like (Heal - e - See). It's referring to the spiral shape of the sword, which is a form of helix, similar to how the structure of DNA 🧬 is a double helix. Just thought you'd want to know!
Tbh I thought that Estoc should be primary candidate in Heavy thrusting sword class, because it's literally a zweihander of thrusting swords (as in, it's originally a two-handed weapon). But alas.
I just beat Malenia solo with a blood Godskin Sticher 40 strength 45 dex and 40 arcane and it worked really well. However that’s kind of a weird stat spread that won’t be useful for many other weapons
God Stitcher all the way just for the Elden Bling. Unfortunately, I can't think of a strong build for it that can compete with meta unless I just go with bleed.
In pursuit of making pve guardcounters genuinely good (not mere "worked for me in my game" but advantage over norm) I started with a foundation of pve "Shield Build" (meaning greatshield/fingerprint) and then began eyeing tools Spears/Gspears seem suitable, with some range (GCs tend to whiff on bosses) and STR inclination and the shieldpoke that coincides with being shield-oriented, but HTSs have an abnormally high MV for GCs (x1.4 not the usual x1.25) and also have some range/STR lean/blockpoke It's possible that epee is THE weapon for a guardcounter build (pretty sure it's still gonna end up a joke build) but I haven't done much field inspecting yet, just eyeing charts
I started a new character (arc/dex) and I think I'm gonna make my way to the Bloody Helix. I already have the Epee so maybe dual wield? Too bad the freaking Cragblade is an endgame weapon. Awesome video, Chrightt! Keep up the good work!
The epee is such a weirdly balanced weapon in ER, as if it was overly tuned with a second set of eyes. Not to mention, a heavy/large epee makes no sense to begin with as it's meant to be a lighter fencing foil to the rapier make, often for training.

Haven't watched the video yet but im guessing that the Epee is the best simply because it is my favorite and I played my whole first playthrough with it. Later i switched to Cragblad because its so cool!!
Dragon king Cragblade and the Stitcher are my favourite weapons, didn't know about the damage bonus against dragons for the cragblade though, very cool. The infinite hyper armor is absolutely insane, super clutch in both pve and pvp
You left out that the godskin stitchers feint attack has a lower pvp poise dmg than the others. I think it's because it modifies the first hit in the 2 hit charged r2 but I'm not sure.
I find it a bit weird that all of the heavy thrusting swords have different heavy attacks, but the wiki acts like there is a base moveset for them, which is the epee, instead of the one that is used by multiple.

Ey, Chrightt! You mind doing a review on the difference between version 1.00's Bloodhound's Fineese and Dynast's Finesse and their 1.06 version? I'm fairly certain these two have recieved a rather heavy new shadow nerf affecting their distance travled, and their turn radious when using said skills, seems like you can no longer do a complete 180 with the Dynast's Finesse as of 1.06

2:40 This move is quiet confusing in my playthrough, does this make some damage or just fancy dodge? iirc I never make some damage with this backward move. idk So what i did was dual weapon Helice and Stitcher (so i can infuse with my prefer ash of war in my right hand). XD
I think the backward dodge is just for I frames and movement. but then the follow up attacks are where the damage comes in. if you don't need it tho, using the stitcher for more variety of AoW makes sense for sure
Bloody Helice wins out for me, although all four swords are good. The Helice scales decently to both Arcane and Dex, so if you are talking PvE it will handily out-damage the others at higher levels. Plus it has the bleed. You can get an even better amount of bleed on the Epee and the Stitcher, but you sacrifice a fair amount of AR to get it compared to the Helice. Plus the Helice AoW is very good for PvE against most human-like enemies. Since you tend to fire up the AoW when someone attacks you, its post-dodge forward thrust has both heavy damage and a counterattack bonus, which means it one-shots many enemies. Due to the range you attack at with heavy thrusting swords, they are also quite good against shields because you often thrust right by the shield since the enemy is starting their attack animation, and even if you bounce off the shield you can quickly L1 them as they try to do a riposte. Plus, the poise damage on heavy thrusting swords is very high. Jump attacking most large creatures like trolls, dogs, crows, and octupi, will stun them in 2-3 hits. That is very good for how fast you can attack. Works on rune bears too, if you can pull it off before they knock you over.
So many options. I’ve been trying the bloody helice with a greatshield and lots of arcane so it’s just poke poke poke dead. Still, if I’m not going to use the ash of war, I’m probably better off with a Seppuku cross-naginata. Can never decide what to use next!
Another good heavy thrusting sword option is the Sticher/Epee with Giants Hunt. That AoW makes most humanoid enemies super easy because it knocks them off their feet. I mostly use it for Knights and those Crystal golems - any enemy that you normally have a hard time hitting multiple times. Knock 'em over then hit them a few times. Obviously that AoW can be used on spears and halberds too - the higher AR the better.
doesn't the godskin stitcher have a unique running light attack that thrusts you forwards quite a bit? i remember hearing that in a youtube video somewhere, which makes it good for chasing people down in invasions i could be wrong, but if not, it's just another thing to consider when choosing between that and great peepee
There is no way this potato actually put the bloody helice over the stitcher and epee when it comes to bleed. The stitcher and epee literally proc bleed on a SINGLE R1 on those people who have less than 250 robustness. That’s basically anyone who’s not wearing the heaviest armor. 1 hit bleed procs. And if your opponent actually has heavy armor and robustness talismans, the stitcher and epee have a 100% 2 hit combo that will proc bleed on literally anyone no matter what armor and robustness they have. Edit - I apologize for calling Chrigght a potato. I was just surprised he over looked this.
No, I'm saying just for occult infusion lol. As you can see on bleed infusion, Epee/Stitcher has more bleed potential for less AR. I'm saying, if you're going to use occult infusion, you might as well use Helice.

I think he could mix in scythes as well, as they share the moveset with halberds (correct me if im wrong)

Horizontal Slash on Epee is an R2, it's great for staggering up close in PvP. The moveset is more strategic on the Epee.

Common anglicized version is EH-pay.
I really like the epee for its moveset, having that delayed horizontal slash can really trip up them parry bois
My ng+ is a dragon maiden with the crucible and dragon communion incantations using crag blade and the gransax lance

I think it has to do with unlocking your camera from the enemy, and then using your movement stick as you do the inputs to aim your character
You can:
#1 Free aim the entire thing so you can control both where your character goes OR

I just recently started using heavy thrusting swords and I'm hooked on the Boody Helice.
The epee is such a weirdly balanced weapon in ER, as if it was overly tuned with a second set of eyes. Not to mention, a heavy/large epee makes no sense to begin with as it's meant to be a lighter fencing foil to the rapier make, often for training.
Dear Chrightt, I ask if you know the order of weapon classes which you plan to add into this series, and if you are willing to share such information, humbly ask when you have Greataxes planned

Haven't watched the video yet but im guessing that the Epee is the best simply because it is my favorite and I played my whole first playthrough with it. Later i switched to Cragblad because its so cool!!
Dragon king Cragblade and the Stitcher are my favourite weapons, didn't know about the damage bonus against dragons for the cragblade though, very cool. The infinite hyper armor is absolutely insane, super clutch in both pve and pvp

You left out that the godskin stitchers feint attack has a lower pvp poise dmg than the others. I think it's because it modifies the first hit in the 2 hit charged r2 but I'm not sure.

I find it a bit weird that all of the heavy thrusting swords have different heavy attacks, but the wiki acts like there is a base moveset for them, which is the epee, instead of the one that is used by multiple.

Ey, Chrightt! You mind doing a review on the difference between version 1.00's Bloodhound's Fineese and Dynast's Finesse and their 1.06 version? I'm fairly certain these two have recieved a rather heavy new shadow nerf affecting their distance travled, and their turn radious when using said skills, seems like you can no longer do a complete 180 with the Dynast's Finesse as of 1.06

So what i did was dual weapon Helice and Stitcher (so i can infuse with my prefer ash of war in my right hand). XD
I think the backward dodge is just for I frames and movement. but then the follow up attacks are where the damage comes in. if you don't need it tho, using the stitcher for more variety of AoW makes sense for sure

Is the Stitcher slightly better for bleed because the charge R2 hits twice? (PvE obviously)
If bleed is all you want to proc, blood infused stitcher/epee will proc bleed faster than Helice.

Great Epee Gang!!
Bloody Helice wins out for me, although all four swords are good. The Helice scales decently to both Arcane and Dex, so if you are talking PvE it will handily out-damage the others at higher levels. Plus it has the bleed. You can get an even better amount of bleed on the Epee and the Stitcher, but you sacrifice a fair amount of AR to get it compared to the Helice. Plus the Helice AoW is very good for PvE against most human-like enemies. Since you tend to fire up the AoW when someone attacks you, its post-dodge forward thrust has both heavy damage and a counterattack bonus, which means it one-shots many enemies. Due to the range you attack at with heavy thrusting swords, they are also quite good against shields because you often thrust right by the shield since the enemy is starting their attack animation, and even if you bounce off the shield you can quickly L1 them as they try to do a riposte.
Plus, the poise damage on heavy thrusting swords is very high. Jump attacking most large creatures like trolls, dogs, crows, and octupi, will stun them in 2-3 hits. That is very good for how fast you can attack. Works on rune bears too, if you can pull it off before they knock you over.
So many options. I’ve been trying the bloody helice with a greatshield and lots of arcane so it’s just poke poke poke dead. Still, if I’m not going to use the ash of war, I’m probably better off with a Seppuku cross-naginata. Can never decide what to use next!
Another good heavy thrusting sword option is the Sticher/Epee with Giants Hunt. That AoW makes most humanoid enemies super easy because it knocks them off their feet. I mostly use it for Knights and those Crystal golems - any enemy that you normally have a hard time hitting multiple times. Knock 'em over then hit them a few times. Obviously that AoW can be used on spears and halberds too - the higher AR the better.

doesn't the godskin stitcher have a unique running light attack that thrusts you forwards quite a bit? i remember hearing that in a youtube video somewhere, which makes it good for chasing people down in invasions
i could be wrong, but if not, it's just another thing to consider when choosing between that and great peepee
All the heavy thrusting swords have that (and it's the running heavy)
It doesn't have a unique running light. They all share the same running heavy tool.

There is no way this potato actually put the bloody helice over the stitcher and epee when it comes to bleed.
The stitcher and epee literally proc bleed on a SINGLE R1 on those people who have less than 250 robustness. That’s basically anyone who’s not wearing the heaviest armor. 1 hit bleed procs.
And if your opponent actually has heavy armor and robustness talismans, the stitcher and epee have a 100% 2 hit combo that will proc bleed on literally anyone no matter what armor and robustness they have.

No, I'm saying just for occult infusion lol. As you can see on bleed infusion, Epee/Stitcher has more bleed potential for less AR. I'm saying, if you're going to use occult infusion, you might as well use Helice.
