UAD is amazing. Been using them for 8 years now. I don’t use luna too much but i gotta test it out more one day. The ATR102 is great, but i wouldn’t use it on EVERY mix. My only issue with UAD is that they haven’t updated some of their older plugins in a long time. Which is an issue when it is 3rd party and the 3rd party has given several updated to the plugin (for example the brainworx plugins like masterdesk). That being said the best UAD plugins are from UAD. The reverbs are incredible as are the consoles especially when used as unison. And since there isn’t any difference between the native versions of the softube, brainworx, sonnox, and other third party plugins you may as well save some money (and DSP) and get the native versions. CPUs are super powerful these days and you don’t need to get the DSP versions anymore. What i will say is that if you have an Apollo it can be helpful to have the DSP versions so you can use it in console while recording for no latency to the artist while recording. Or if you are streaming directly from console. Also i want to mention that some of the sonnox stuff is super old and outdated. I’d advise against getting the limiter for other limiters such as FabFilter pro L2 or sonible smart limit. My top UAD exclusive plugins on most mixes: pultec, LA2A, 1176, API 2500, EMT 140 reverb, capital chambers, Lexicon 480L, Studio D is great for subtle chorus (i also use on the BGV super amazing there - DON’T BUY KLARK TEKNIC THO IT IS A SCAM), galaxy echo is great on lead guitar, the AKG bx 20 spring reverb, API vision channel strip, Neve 1084, cooper time cube (always on vocals as a slap delay), DBX 160 on kick, distressor on vocals (i have the hardware, but use this to get the settings before committing the mix), and probably a couple of others.

Though a bit surprised to not see mention of AMS RMX16 Expanded Digital Reverb and know it's one of your favorites for the preset pack. Thanks for another useful video!

I also always use the Oxford Inflator on mix buss, but been using the Fabfilter Pro L2 as final limiter.
I agree with api 560. That is my absolute fav plugin. I almost got all the uad plugins and ofc it is hard to compare reverbs with compressors and EQs, but the API 560 is so damn impressive and something I cant live without. I can change comps, verbs ect, but not this specific EQ.
Really good content as always. How do you go about doing side chaining with Luna? That's the thing that holds me back from switching from Ableton for mixing
Well, this depends - if you're using sidechaining to Duck the sound, or if you're side chaining just to have a squashed sound to blend into the original sound. Two totally different situations. The second one is the easiest, add a bus track and send the audio to it to slam.. I haven't thought much about how to do the first one, but I'll look into it.
Wow . I know your'e not using a Solo but dam you can have whatever you want. If I have a pre in the Unison slot and 1 compressor in the insert and if I try to add anything else depending on what I'm using for the 1st two I run out of DSP. Does that sound right to you or is there something I'm setting up wrong. I watched your video on DSP management but I didn't see anything that implies I'm doing something wrong . I wish I knew about how critical DSP is because I would have waited a week or so and got the twin. So far I like the Manley Vox Box and the Avalon V 737. But I've only tried those two . LOL . I love it all . No I tried the UA 610 A & B. I like them 2 but the Manley takes the cake for me. One thing I'm a little confused about is my HP cue. It sounds a bit robotic. Almost like it's out of phase. But it's the only track I have up besides some back up music without vocals. Any ideas?
It could be that you’re running very specifically heavy DSP modules. It could also be that your session itself has a lot of tracks with UAD plugins in the background. Think of your solo as a piece of outboard gear. You almost have to use it that way. Eventually - you will have to commit a sound to wav. Just like you would if you only have one real 1176 sitting in a rack. Outside of that - hard to say without seeing what your actual set up is. You should be able to build a complete chain with the solo no problem in 44.1k or 48k Once you jump to 96k things start getting much heavier to run. Which would require a different approach of printing a lot more frequently.
I wasn't shutting over my plug ins before I jumped into an actual project. I had a test project just getting familiar with it. So the DSP carried over . You should probably mention that I'm sure there's others doing the same. DAWs don't behave that way but Console does. Thanks for all the help . I'll support the channel Friday when I get paid.

@@TheSteveKinney Thanks for pointing me to the Fabfilter Pro Q 3. I just compared it on a track with the Oxford Dynamic EQ and it's quite good. Sounds very musical and it has external side chaining, which the UAD Oxford doesn't. I even email UAD and they replied that they know and it's on their list. @@ChrisAnsonPhotography it’s often a go to on vocals. It works well on some singers. Especially when there is a lot of dynamic range on the performance. Hey Steve have u noticed that when u record with the plug ins on console they don’t sound the same as when you record with them in the DAW? I’m trying to save dsp and I have the plug ins exactly the same on both but for some reason it doesn’t sound as good when I record with them on console? Any advice or tips?
It likely could be the effect of performing vs listening. I’ve tested the UA plugs when going unison vs native and made a video about it. It’s the same. So something is happening that is psychosomatic. Or there is a setting that is off. Do you have “UAD REC” selected in UAD console?
Some great plugins. I don't own most of them, and my choices are way different. I've stuck with the 1073 though a 1081 is probably in my future. What's the key difference between these in your opinion , Steve? The rest of my "list" is full of things like the Fairchild, Pultec and LA3A. You know, the usual suspects!
The 1081 is solid - it’s definitely got that Neve curve to the sound of it, especially with the top end. It’s handy too, lower DSP since it’s just an eq. I find that the 1081 is more transparent than the 1073 or 1084. Great for vibe. High and low passing.
I often record two guitar three guitar multitrack for soundcloud now to export to apple music. I got a bunch of plugins. Just learning to use them all. I get confused on all the different settings. So far I notice alot of myself focusing on getting out unwanted static noise, and making the volumes between rhythm and lead be balanced. But so far all I know is the difference between clean tone and distortion. soundcloud.com/kyle-abent , itunes/spotify: kyle abent , th-cam.com/users/rocksmithdiary , reddit.com/r/rocksmithcustomsongs - just references if anyone is interested heh

What Kinney said. Smaller bouts of compression in serial is less of a pumping effect. I use it on vocals and bass. The fact UAD offers different flavors of the 1176 and LA2a let's you mix and match
