  • Ice Fishing Scofield Utah. The Jaw Jacker setup got a workout on this ice fishing trip! The fishing was hot in the afternoon, but not a lot of size to the fish. Either way, it was a great trip with my brother and dad. This video was shot with a contour roam2 camera, enjoy! Thanks again Roy!

    I'm always fishing for largemouth bass I love the challenge of trying to get him to bite artificial Baits and then the battle pulling it in, I've done lots of ice fishing but it's not nearly as exciting as fishing in the spring for largemouth. nice being out there though

    Great video thanks for sharing we don't do ice fishing here in NZ and was wondering how often the fish swallow the hook right down its throat?
    I noticed most of the fish in your clip were mouth hooked and were released
    When I have used bait for trout in the pass they often took the hook right down which meant I couldn't release them.

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +11happychap Thanks for the comment. When using bait, it is a worry that the fish will swallow it, however, on this trip we were able to send them all back. Normally when I ice fish, I just lightly tip an ice jig with a maggot or meal worm. For some reason, most of those fish get lip hooked as well and can be released. Thanks for watching.

    You can't really release the fish after you have let them flop around in the snow. It destroys their protective slime layer... If you wanna do catch and release - do it properly.

    • @the-mountainlife
      @the-mountainlife  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michigan Gone Wild That was my first outing with it. I bought it due to the fish we missed at woodruff, and could have had with a JawJacker. After I got the tension set right it worked like a charm. I need to get into a better habit of pulling it away from the hole before the fish splash all over it and it freezes up though! Glad I got it.

      SwagaliciousFishing First and foremost, welcome to the ice fishing brotherhood! It's a great hobby/addiction to have. As un-sporty as it may seem, sometimes a good old fashioned worm out-fishes them all. We were just using nightcrawlers (worms). I usually will use an ice fly tipped with some sort of bait: mealworm, maggot, wax worm, nightcrawler etc....hope that helps!

    • @SwagaliciousFishing

      SwagaliciousFishing Good question. What I use are probably more commonly referred to as an "ice jig" something like this:

      Ha ha, you can have the eight inch fish man, I prefer to let them grow up a little bit. As far as nobody believing, that's what cameras are for :) I like to eat fish too, but I want to keep fish that are a little bigger than what you saw in this video. Americans are crazy, had I kept the fish, all the Americans would be commenting asking why in the world I kept all the fish!
