@@EddieSharam The Balrog is great. I was actually disappointed with the design of the balrog in the movie compared how I had imagined it in my mind when reading the book, it wasn't horrific enough, but your design is much better.
I love the depiction of Boromir here. In addition to giving him the immense physicality and body language of a bulwark/tank to contrast him with the more slender Aragorn, it seems like he is always closest to the danger. He's the first character we see next to the one ring. He's one of the first three up the stairs when they enter Moria. He's the last one out as they flee the goblins/orcs, covering the retreat of the rest of the fellowship. He's the first to turn around and directly face the Balrog, standing fearless out in front of the beast, ready to attempt to throw down until Gandalf moves in front of him. And of course, most poignantly, he puts himself directly in harm's way one last time to protect the hobbits. Brilliant show of his direct and hammer-like approach to everything (with all that comes with it, good and bad.).
Thanks for noticing all those things with Boromir :) With such a limited time I tried to only include actions and behaviour that made the characters feel true to themselves and Boromir is one of my favourites, so I wanted to do him justice.

@@HenryJr_T Honestly, the Barrow Wights are just as bad an exclusion. Bombadil doesn't have nearly the impact without it. It would make sense to do the forest in the first half of an episode and the wights in the second and then be done with Bombadil. I can also see why both events are consistently cut in adaptations. They're detached from all the other events and they slow the pacing.
The fight on the bridge of Khazad Dum was quite impressive too! The shadow of the balrog was literally fighting against Gandalf’s light for space on the screen
I love how you integrate certain visuals from the films while giving it a feel of a reader imagining it pre-Peter Jackson. Moria sometimes feeling like a narrow, labyrinthine dungeon is how I interpreted it as a kid. I love the films' interpretation of it as a vast, open cave with winding paths through it, but this captures my childhood vision of it.
Exactly! I love how he didn’t make the Balrog have physical wings but more like wings encapsulated and made out of shadow like how it’s described in the book
Yeah. I have wondered if an animated version of the series could adhere to the books more than Jackson's movies did. This style is just about what I would wish for.

Animating the darkness was time consuming but I like how it makes the balrog seem like he's made of living shadow (and fire),as I imagined him in the books.

If only copyrights didn't last so ridiculously long. If Tolkien's (and many others) works were in the public domain we could actually have interpretations and passion projects such as this.

@@victoravr10 I read the book not too long ago, this definitely appeared like a reasonable interpretation to me. The mood was the same and it is obvious that this guy truly loves Tolkiens work. Your love for Tolkien's words is in every frame. You bring hope in the dar days that lie ahead. Amazon and it's masters will not corrupt our beloved Legendarium as long people like you keep the fireplace.
Man, to capture the beauty and wonder of Tolkien's work to a wonderfully animated film is a feat that most major studios can't even Fathom, and yet here you made it so on your own! You have insane talent lad, I hope your name becomes famous!
Yeah, it was tough to decide what to include from the story and what to leave out. I'd love a chance to make something longer based on LOTR in the future.
Obviously, between something made from respect, accuracy, lore wise and "passion" and something crafted from pure evilness just for the sake of feminism and inclusion (da heck I dun want that and I'm not white but I want caucasian actors), just yeah, no normal human being, mind sane, want the legacy that Amazon is going to defile.
Very cool! I’ve just been reading Tolkien’s books to my kids. We finished the Hobbit a couple weeks ago, and now we’re about 100 pages into Fellowship of the ring. Funny this video came up. How does google know what bedtime stories I’m reading my kids? The more I think about it, that’s kind of creepy, actually. But very cool animation!
I recently read through them with my daughter. One thing I'd recommend doing is looking up the songs here on TH-cam as you come across them. My daughter really liked hearing them sung out with music and everything. (Also, most smart devices are always listening. I've had things I've talked about show up as suggestions by Amazon, too. And the only smart device I own is a phone.)
That's nothing special! I was speaking with my friends about chess and LOTR, after 5 minutes I wanted to check what's new on YT and here comes the Ads, chess LOTR with figures from the movie, like WTF xD they not only knew what we were speaking about, they just combined it to one thing.
Eddie you do incredible work! My favourite thing about this is how you brought so much originality, you were taking inspiration from various sources but you really made it your own interpretation.
Epic. Especially Boromir's death. The movies were epic too, but they never really captured just how many arrows Boromir took, while he kept on fighting. The movies showed three big arrows, which was cool, but really I wanted to him cope a dozen or more, like in the books. What a badass!
Yeah that part was really well done. Pretty sure boromir was only shot in the front though which is important to show he didn’t flee but died facing the enemy defending his friends. The arrows in the back has a nice aesthetic for the animation though
I remeber a line in the book where it was like "Isildur fell to 3 arrows, Boromir fell to a Dozen". Its supposed to highlight the strength of Boromir at that moment, comparable to legendary figures like Isildur
Congrats. TY, finally someone gave the heart and feelings of this. Tolkien wanted a tale that was based on real-life, a retelling. I felt the movies never gave the feelings of a moment. It was meant for general and children, however, your animations shows what it meant to be. At 1:17 example, we see a "last" stand. We could feel it in the story, but not the movies, here though you reminded me of that moment. The fears and the honour of them standing their ground. And ty for correcting Boromir, the movie suggest he was weak and childish, unintelligent. But in truth, he was one of the great fighters in "The Lord of the Rings". Even tempted by the ring, he fought to save lives at the cost of his. The movie shows this but not to point of how brave and willing he was to face death for two hobbits he knew very little of. And it wasnt just a few arrows that dropped him it was many and an honourable death. The movie doesnt really relay this, I feel. There were points in your animation that made me cry, like the story did, but not the movies. Again, ty for reminding us, that the stories, had feelings and sadness, hope and honour... Tolkien was never a lover of movie media, but I believe he would be proud of this.
I would pay serious money for animations of fantasy stories of this calibre! Frame by frame, it brought back the childhood shivers, the awe and the frustration, the vision unveiling by the turning of the page...Magnificent! Why don't we just support artists like you instead of throwing our money to half-assed, megalomaniac and spineless productions ready to bend over before profit and fame?
Well, if you knew anything about the real world and/or were being honest with yourself, this is only 'good' because you know it was done by one fan. Sure, give him all your money, but as long as he stays one person, be prepared to wait a decade for the film to be finished. Oh, you want it faster? Then pay him more to hire additional animators. Oh, Tolkien's estate came calling. More money, please! Oh no, the money from the fans wasn't enough, we need to distribute the film in theatres, on video and via streaming. Lemme take a loan to hire people who can handle the distribution. And just like that, this one fan has become one of the corporations you hate so much. People need to eat, and the meager amounts people like you can pay to support the cottage industry isn't nearly enough.
@@stillwatersrundeep001 What i really, really hate is the absence of dedication, genuine effort and excellence from today's film production and writing. Qualities evident in the works of people that are true to their art. Sure, money makes the world go round and an artist's got to eat, but there exist creative studios that can deliver. I guess my beef is the result of the huge disappointment from mainstream films/series/games inspired by fantasy/sci-fi literature (shows like Wheel of Time, Witcher and upcoming ones, i'm fearing). Also, have you heard about crowdfunding?
I meam, i get your point, but the fantasy community that i know and am a part of is one of the most patient but also demanding out there. We have been waiting for years for our favourite stories, certainly we can wait some more for a decent effort concerning the stories that we love and cherish. Enough with the megalomania and narcissism of producers and film writers, and the despicable greed of corporations that feed on the "real world's" addiction to "swift pleasure" and "swipe right/left" culture. The community demands backbone! The backlash from GoT's final season and the mistrust of the fanbase towards HBO was just the beginning of the consequences when you do something half-assed and refuse to listen to your creative team, authors, actors and you fanbase's opinion. I guess i would be fine with just small video animations/narrations that stay true to the principles of fantasy: symbolism, empathy, escapism, hope and whatever else you want to add. Principles that bring people together. People who love their work and not their wallets. These people always stand out.

I'm especially fond of his movie, "American Pop." As for The Hobbit (animated one that is) I haven't seen it so I will definitely give that watch as well. When it comes to the live action Hobbit films, I feel they shouldn't have stretched it because even though it was probably meant to mirror The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (and of course for extra money) they should've kept it to one, maybe two films tops. I do somewhat enjoy aspects of the live action version because I feel most of the acting is well done, especially from Martin Freeman, who I think played a younger Bilbo just as well as Ian Holm played the older Bilbo we see in The Lord of the Rings. Honestly, the Barrow Wights are just as bad an exclusion. Bombadil doesn't have nearly the impact without it. It would make sense to do the forest in the first half of an episode and the wights in the second and then be done with Bombadil.
I can also see why both events are consistently cut in adaptations. They're detached from all the other events and they slow the pacing.

big fan of your vids
Yes we must see the other lord of the rings films!!
It is so meta when you see one of your favorite channels comment on a video
The fight on the bridge of Khazad Dum was quite impressive too! The shadow of the balrog was literally fighting against Gandalf’s light for space on the screen
You gave justice for Boromir! He is my absolute favourite, i love him. Amazing animation!!!
Boromir is my favourite member of the Fellowship too, so tragic.
@@EddieSharam yeah, right?
I love how you integrate certain visuals from the films while giving it a feel of a reader imagining it pre-Peter Jackson. Moria sometimes feeling like a narrow, labyrinthine dungeon is how I interpreted it as a kid. I love the films' interpretation of it as a vast, open cave with winding paths through it, but this captures my childhood vision of it.
and in the reality is both, labyrinthine dungeon and vast, open cave. moria is the true gem of all dwarves
Exactly! I love how he didn’t make the Balrog have physical wings but more like wings encapsulated and made out of shadow like how it’s described in the book
Yeah. I have wondered if an animated version of the series could adhere to the books more than Jackson's movies did. This style is just about what I would wish for.

Yes... That is what I would do If I had control of the franchise...
I would bring in talent form Japan and Korea and I would make this an animated series... And I will defiantly not leave out the Tom Bombadil story...
I like how everything in the animation was still recognizable as what we've seen in the movies, and yet it had it's own style that you could still have imagined it looking like in the books. Over all, well done. 5/5
That was amazing. Favorite part was Boromir’s fall. Beautiful.
Boromir is one of my favourite characters, so had to spend the extra effort on his scene to try and make it good.
I really love how the darkness emanates from the balrog, really accurate to the books!
Animating the darkness was time consuming but I like how it makes the balrog seem like he's made of living shadow (and fire),as I imagined him in the books.
"His enemy halted again, facing him, and the shadow about it reached out like two vast wings.
...suddenly it drew itself up to a great height, and its wings were spread from wall to wall..."
Very good job
@@EddieSharam So very glad that you chose not to give it wings. Though they look undeniably more badass with wings it is not true to Tolkiens depiction of a balrog. :)
@@MrEMVme I haven't read the books for sometime so correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the Balrogs just Maia but having fallen to Morgoth's corruption? @@EddieSharam I think you should, it will be excellent. Also, try to make your own distinct adaptation of the JRR Tolkien books, and not the Peter Jackson movies - which are of course AMAZING. But that's his interpretation of the books, not yours. Maybe do more with the rivals between Aragorn and Borowmir which was beautifully ended with Boromir's martyr death.

Absolutely epic and stunning!Boromir’s death caught me off guard using his dying breath to sound the horn.

Eddie you do incredible work! My favourite thing about this is how you brought so much originality, you were taking inspiration from various sources but you really made it your own interpretation.
Thank you so much for the comment. I tried to get to the essence of the characters for me, and to depict that. Glad it resonates with you too.
That Balrog and Boromir scene gave me goosebumps.
Epic. Especially Boromir's death. The movies were epic too, but they never really captured just how many arrows Boromir took, while he kept on fighting. The movies showed three big arrows, which was cool, but really I wanted to him cope a dozen or more, like in the books. What a badass!
Yeah I really like that part also. Gave cold chills
@@jonathaniyere3203 The line in the book and movie was "The mightiest man may be slain by one arrow, and Boromir was pierced by many."
@@crowkelion Never noticed that but you're right!
If this was an official TV series ,i would watch it

I'm especially fond of his movie, "American Pop."
As for The Hobbit (animated one that is) I haven't seen it so I will definitely give that watch as well.

The live-action movies were great for some things (I loved what they did with Smaug, for example). I didn't want to come off as too dismissive of all three movies. It just added lots of things from the book's index and even Peter's own creative licence, like Legolas being in the films as opposed to the Hobbit book. I get that he is there because of his father's important role in the Battle of Five Armies and as a tie-in character for the LotR films. The movies just try to cram in so much extra stuff that it dilutes the overall story of what should have been a simple adventure. No doubt another problem of it having come out after LotR and needing to fuse them together for audiences.

i like how these character designs are completely original and not just the movie’s interpretations of them (not that that’s a bad thing!). it gives us a breath of fresh air in a sense, and adds even more charm to this BEAUTIFUL animation
Thanks a lot, I tried to depict the core of each character as they appeared to me, and I'm glad it resonates with you too :)
Sheesh! That is stunning!
the art, the transition and the character introduction, and the music and everything is just amazing. like a Christmas gift for all lotr fans ...
Truly amazing. There's more art and soul here than in 6 episodes of "The Rings of Power" combined.
Amen a hundred times.
And yet, ROP will be getting a full 5 seasons, and this will not.
Die mad about it 😂
@@johngalt2910 five times 0 is still 0. Nothing to be mad about. A little disdainful, maybe.
@@johngalt2910 Nelson ratings it flopped. being a 1 billion dollar investment per season they are essentially burning money. this is more of a budget then big movies
@@johngalt2910 imagine being a fan of that trash
Lord of the rings is for me an absolute chefs kiss and this animation too oml-
