So I've been watching all of Tom's reviews on Dominion, since I'm going to get it for Christmas, and I was planning on buying the original and 1 expansion. Until this video, I was planning on getting Intrigue over Seaside and Alchemy...I guess Tom says I should get Prosperity.
Can anyone please explain to me one simple stupid question that I cannot find anywhere? If mint gives you a copy of a card, does that go into your hand or does it go into the discard? It mentions neither, so I can't see how it's self explanatory. Most people just say "read the card literally" and literally, if it's truly a "copy", it goes directly into your hand. No?
This is explained in the original Dominion rulebook: "when a player gains a card, he takes the gained card and puts it onto his discard pile (unless the card says to put it elsewhere)". So, in this case, the gained card goes onto your discard pile.
Things like this are usually specifically addressed in the rule book, where you'll find more detail for each card, specifically in this case, for the mint: _"When you play this, you may reveal a Treasure card from your hand and gain a copy of it from the Supply, putting the gained card into your discard pile"_ In case you don't have a manual (maybe you're playing a used copy that lost their manual), you can usually find a PDF online. Rio Grande has PDFs of all the expansion rulebooks I believe. All this to say: rtfm 😊
@Khalirei I'm sure the rules that came with the game explain this, but any time you gain a card in Dominion, it goes to your discard pile unless the card says otherwise. Mint is already powerful enough that it can duplicate your golds and platinums while trashing your coppers that if it allowed you to gain the duplicates directly into your hand, it would be pretty broken. Nice try though. ^.^
Personally, I don't like "Dominion" - nor "Vasco da Gama", for that matter, he he - but Tom's video reviews are in a class of their own and always fun to watch. Thanks, Tom, for sharing your good humour with us, and keep them coming!
I found the WatchTower to be very versatile. It even gives you a reason not to play it (buy a Platinum, reveal watchtower, put Platinum you gain on top of your deck)
Maths pedantry - since the order of decks doesn't matter, we're interested in the number combinations but not the permutations. So that's (25!) / (15!)(10!) = 3,268,760. That's still more combinations than you could play in a lifetime.
Tom are you going to make a Top 10 games of 2010 video at the end of the year? I really enjoyed your Top 100 videos and seeing your top 10 games (Duel of Ages, Descent, Heroscape..etc) I wonder if any new game replaced your top 10 (or 20) games?
@theresonlyoneMELLO Intrigue has the basic cards (treasures and VP) that allows you to play with more than 4. But its not recomended for more than 5 people since waiting time gets too long.
How much is Rio Grande paying you xD? Seriously, I wouldn't start a review with "THIS IS SO AWESOME. AWESOME. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH." But I also had the feeling that the cards are new and unique, I definitely look forward playing Dominion: Prosperity.

There was definitely a Ken Bone thing going on with the Tom Vasel aesthetic during this era.

My biggest problem with Dominion.... people who bend cards. Btw, totally agree,this is a great xpac
but can/should this expansion be played without the other expansions? I'm still exploring the basic game, it rocks!
