This video helped! Pet store I got him from didn’t know much about this species, so when he is constantly soaking in his dish it had me concerned, as well as the feeding schedule, I’ve been offing food once a week and now I know why he doesn’t eat, great work!
I have 1.2 long term captives. The females had 14 babies a year ago. Only one survived. I couldn't figure out what they prefer to eat! My adults eat every week and are always hungry, as is the one offspring i have. Can you tell me how you get the babies feeding?
@@ryankibler7973 I don't have it down to an exact science yet. I've had a couple successes with one method that when attempting with other viper boas would fail so until I get consistent results I don't have much strong advice. Now that the disclaimers is over. I would say avoid Assist feeding, it has never work for my viper boas and once they are stressed it never goes well. Another thing I'd suggest is trying a different method every few days to see what works. If you get it to work wait a week and try it again. Don't handle them at all except for cleanings. Reduce the stress as much as possible. If using frozen thawed give yourself plenty of time to commit to attempting to feed them. I've had success with feeling frozen thawed but using different scents from tuna, front, Gecko, etc. I have notice once they take their first meal willingly the other meals and much faster but meal 4 to 6 they are eating as confidently as their parents.
I do have a rack system and some polyurethane enclosure cages but I was wondering if I could set one up in a naturalistic set-up in a display aquarium with a metal screen lid with Coco 🥥 blox mixture as the primary substrate with a plastic hide house and homemade humidity box as well as a water bowl and natural decor in conjunction with a Reptitherm under tank heat panel and Fluker's heat lamp and UVB light hooked up too a Herpstatt and timed power strip?
Hi White, Okay let me start by saying yes you might be able to depending on other varibles ill discuss below. However I would not keep them that way and do not recommend it. 1) open top aquarium have a couple issues, (a) they have pour ventilation for proper airflow. (B) they do not hold humidity even with a substrate designed to hold humidty it will be lost faster in that setup. 2) with both a heat light, under belly heat, and the ither light it could be a over heating issue. I'm not sure your location or your room temperature so be read my care sheet on my site that goes over the recommend temps and humidity levels i maintain here in Houston. 3) with that much lighting and heat it could increase how fast the aquarium loses humidity. Hope this helps. - James
I have not tried eco earth with them so I can't say what to expect for sure. However based on their habits I will say there's a good chance you'll need to change their water once to twice a day if you want them to have good water. Another option is the add a good quality filter for the water that can handle the high volume of substrate they will get into it when soaking.
Hi just got my first viper boa, he’s in quarantine at the moment. You mentioned the feeding interval but not the prey size. Would I be better to put a small lump in him or just feed enough so you can’t notice?
I think your care guide is very good you explained a lot of how to take care of these guys
Thank you I appreciate the compliment.

How about all eco earth since they like to burrow?

So keeping the water dish is gonna evaporate water an help the humidity right I typically spray my bp cage to help with her humidity
Yes that works for me here in Houston

Hi Garry, A small lump is okay. But if they dont accept, i would try a smaller pray size to see it the boa will accept it more readily.
@@islandlifeexotics thanks for the help 😁👍
@Garry Spencer your welcome. if you have any other questions, dont hesitate to ask. I'm happy it answer, if i can.
