My first car was a 2003 Buick Regal sedan so this manufacturer will always have a special place in my heart. With that said, I am kinda surprised to see Buick still around, even if they are only selling SUVs. Too bad the sedans are dead because some parts of this vehicle seem nice, it's just that performance and handling seem to leave a lot to be desired. Heck, even if the platform was tuned for better performance & handling it's a smaller engine being forced to move a lot of mass. I don't know what it's like to drive a modern truck/suv with a turbo 4 banger but I imagine many of them are revving out constantly just to get the vehicles moving, let alone with a load of cargo or towing anything. I don't know what would have fixed this issue, perhaps a good hybrid system but that would be real expensive and I don't think Buick has the ability to integrate a good option here (I'd love to be proven wrong tho). Again, shame that the Buick sedan is dead because this tech in a smaller car might be a better driving experience and at least alleviate some of the issues with the overall weight of this SUV platform. But I guess that's not what people want in a vehicle anymore so SUVs are what the manufacturers end up making. At the least this seems like it would be a nice rental car or something

Since emerging from the Malaise Era of the 1970s the evolution of the automobile has resulted in increasingly better cars. That trajectory appears to have ended. I’m not sure how AWD is not standard on this vehicle, but $2000 on top of the $60000 gives a bad impression. Likewise adopting the European practice of an upcharge for paint colors that should be standard. Now, back to my initial statement, we’re looking at something close to $65k for a rough four cylinder powered vehicle that takes longer than 8 seconds to reach 60 mph and carries an EPA rated 21 mpg. That definitely does not represent what anyone would consider improvement let alone progress
At this price point it needs a 6 cylinder engine. 4 cylinder engines will never be as refined or have the linear and smooth power delivery as a 6 cylinder, especially naturally aspirated. I like the interior of this new model but would never consider it with a 4 cylinder engine.
What seems silly to me is that despite losing 2 cylinders and 1100cc in displacement, the new Enclave is only very marginally more economical than the previous generation with the 3.6L V6, getting 21 combined where the previous model got 20. Highway economy is actually worse than before. And why doesn’t Buick have a Hybrid anymore?

Should a v6 be offered?, sure but I've looked up an older MW test of an '03 Escalade 6.0 ESV with 340 hp and the Buick is quicker in the 1/4 . In other words the 2.5t gets the job done...
Everyone commenting about the 4banger. It’s not GM more than the government. They have to make change. Look at what they are doing with the midsize and full size trucks with the 4banger. It works. Mostly.
First off, it is GM. A 30 year old Buick 3800 V6 with a 4 speed automatic gets better mpg in a DustBuster minivan than this "high tech" 4 banger does in this hideous piece of 💩. 2nd, the government needs to get real because EVs will never work and smaller engines in heavy vehicles don't work either. Not if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time. Take a look under the hood and under the chassis of these new cars and you'll scratch your head. They're just thrown together. The biggest issue I have with this idea is that it already has over 300hp from the 4 cylinder. And it's still slow. If you add more complicated crap to it, you'll likely make it even heavier and slower. And add more money to the already outrageous price tag.
@@LrulestheworldM8 The Toyota Rav4 AWD with a 203 hp naturally aspirated 2.5L will do 0-60 in 8.1 secs and get 35 mpg hwy. The Buick must be an overweight pig.

Poor performance figures considering engine output numbers. John also mentions harshness. At this price point, that’s unacceptable. Most other manufacturers manage to deliver powerful and pleasant turbo fours. Plus 5000 lbs towing with a cabin full of occupants sounds like a bit of a burden for this vehicle. Good luck moving these off the lot.
So get rid of the V6 and gain weight with slower acceleration to gain a few MPGs. Why? The Avenir should have a more powerful engine and be as efficient. The Europeans can get 25-30 MPG out of a six cylinder. Offer up 360-400 hp for the same money and they will sell a lot more.
wtf! Is going in the auto industry? They’ve gone from bid powered V8’s and 6s to fully EV, hybrid or stupid 4 cylinder engines! That’s a lot of strain on a 4 cylinder! Turbo or non turbo! Don’t expect it to last long! Disposable cars! I’m amazed how Buick still in business!
They need a new way to measure screen size. 30” diagonal, but 7” vertical. I think a 20” screen can be fitted with a lot more screen real estate. Diagonal is becoming a useless way to measure these screens. Stop gushing.
It's tricky finding a non-turbo CUV/SUV these days. The Mazda CX-5 ,CX-50 and Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson among the few that can had without a naturally aspirated engine AND a traditional torque converter transmission.
hmm. pay extra for every color but white? 0-60 that matches a Nissan leaf, with only 24 + mpg. 18 city / 26 highway - V6// 20 city / 27 highway turbo 4 (24 mpg vs 20 mpg) and a performance loss of 2 seconds.. doesnt seem to be all that great... Its purdy though lol
This motorweek test FAILS my standard for modern vehicles by having: -A giant screen instead of physical gauges -Chinese front and rear origins -An unreliable turbo 4 cylinder in a full sized crossover. -BUTTONS for parking and shifting, as well as awd. -An 8 speed gearbox -And a $46,000 base price. This entire vehicle serves 0 purpose. It doesnt compete with anything in its segment. It just exists. And the top trim is BMW pricing. These will sit on dealer lots for months or years before they have to literally give them away. And with buick now being crossover only, its going to continue to hurt the brand. All people want is a 3800 powered car. And they refuse to listen. I am so tired of 'new GMs' garbage.
MotorWeek you just might as well be Buick's PR people. That stupid 4-cylinder engine won't last as long as the very strong, smooth and stable V6 it replaces. There's no control shifter on the center console, it now looks like a stupid knob.
So, so glad we bought a V-6 2024 Avenir. The salesman's face dropped when I explained why it checked all the boxes; first item was the 2025's switch to a 4 banger.
Why did his face drop? You're implying he wasn't aware of the hurdles he faces trying to sell his customers on the benefits of a turbo 4? Perhaps he missed all of his sales meetings or has been off on disability for a few years.
Classic GM: screwing up in the first year(s), so-so interior appointments (this is the top-line trim and it looks like a funeral in the cabin), and grossly under-engined. I want GM to succeed, but this is yet another brick in the wall.
First Road Test of The New Year, now all i got to say for this next gen Enclave, is that it is pretty cool. i know a lot of people are gonna miss the V6, but the 4 cylinder is not bad at all though. but once again, despite the recalls that GM had in some of their vehicles, i think this will be perfect for a flagship Buick SUV, i'll let GM do their thing.
The reason why people don't like this new 4 cylinder is not only about reliability problems.. it is the power. Yes, it is not a sports car.. but for an SUV that is very big. Then this car is going to be stressed, and it will be horrendously sluggish. And even though the Lexus TX has a 4 cylinder too.. that car offers a 2.4liter or 2.5 with turbo or hybrid, and is more built for cruising than off-roading like the new LC250 prado... this Buick has the same engine size as the TX but it is 1 second more sluggish than the TX.. 2 seconds slow if you choose the TX 500h with the same 4 banger.
Between the butt ugly front end and crap-tastic 4 cylinder, it's a big pass for us. My business/ wife has had a few, it was the perfect 3 row people hauler as an airport shuttle for family visiting us at our Florida home... we won't be looking at Buick to replace that buick. Fire Mary B for this atrocity alone!
Buick needs to go the way of Oldsmobile and Pontiac before it. I'm still trying to figure out who purchases these things??? Let it go. If GM wants to keep the name, let it be a package option name for the GMC brands. Caddy, GMC and Buick is a bit much and we're probably going to have to bail GM out soon.
I don’t disagree. And I’m still pissed about Pontiac and Olds getting the axe because of Buick’s once-legit standing in China. We see how that turned out…
Looks like a cheap Chinese station wagon. Same generic front-end on most Chinese cars... Fugly! The interior is nice though. But 50-60K for a 4-cyl GM product? Forget it.
I've owned and driven a few cars with 4 cylinder engines. Here's my take about them. 4 cylinder engines have no pizzazz off the start line. They are not as smooth and quiet as a 6 or 8 cylinder. But, they are mechanically a simpler engine. And if they use a timing chain instead of a rubber belt, sudden belt breakage and abrupt engine failure are greatly reduced.
I don't think the former V6 was a great engine when it came to major service items. Hopefully the 4 cylinder is engineered better even if it doesn't have spunk of the V6.
@dukeallen432 I'd have to go back to Car Wizard's channel. Over the years he did a few vids on the 3.6. Maybe GM made revisions to the engine that made it better but I thought those had some design issues that gave me pause. Personally, I like a V6 (we have Honda's 3.5 in a 2013 RDX) and it's a lot torquier than the 2.0 turbo 4 in our 2024 RDX.
Car wizard isn’t so wizardry. He can’t rebuild a carburetor. His admission. He relies on electronics to tell him what to do. Hoovey just gave him a platform.

@@TheIncredibleJumpman They can make it meet emissions. Reduce the power. 3800 never had an issue meeting emissions. They just got rid of it because they wanted to compete with Honda and Toyota using overhead cams.
@@TheIncredibleJumpman And the 3.6 that replaced it met emissions, it was a clean burner but it wasn't as reliable as the 3800. Nor as fuel efficient.
Wrong-o. Other manufacturers can figure it out. GM, not so much.
wow 8 seconds, thats slow! Bring in the PHEV and maybe it has a shot of competing with the rest.
I will keep Our TourX!
“Unexpected details”. Name three.
Soon available in mid line trim by the thousands under an airport rental car canopy near you.
Priced right! 8 seconds to hit 60 for $55 k. And 19 MPG in the city. Slow, expensive and inefficient.
This engine would be better in a car or maybe the Blazer since its smaller cuv
“All new” clues us in on a four cylinder turbo lol
The underwhelming 4-popper turbo encourages me to keep the wife’s current Enclave; I’ll just keep the oil changed.
It appears GM is back to their function following form phase.
Extra cost for any color but white?
Lots of manufacturers are doing that now.
Taking a page out of the Tesla playbook
Somehow I always thought Avenir is the name of their car.
It was the name of a beautiful concept car debuted around 2015
people just dont care anymore they care about them selfs not others
Still can’t comprehend the reason why the Buick brand is still around. With such uninspiring vehicles, why bother….who’s buying these cars? 😏🤨🤔🤦♂️
This is a 30,000 mile car.
"largest 3 row suv" 😂
Turbo means I am not buying it. Done!
It's tricky finding a non-turbo CUV/SUV these days. The Mazda CX-5 ,CX-50 and Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson among the few that can had without a naturally aspirated engine AND a traditional torque converter transmission.
No V6? No sale.
hmm. pay extra for every color but white? 0-60 that matches a Nissan leaf, with only 24 + mpg. 18 city / 26 highway - V6// 20 city / 27 highway turbo 4 (24 mpg vs 20 mpg) and a performance loss of 2 seconds.. doesnt seem to be all that great... Its purdy though lol
All of these things look the same.
This motorweek test FAILS my standard for modern vehicles by having:
-A giant screen instead of physical gauges
-Chinese front and rear origins
-An unreliable turbo 4 cylinder in a full sized crossover.
-BUTTONS for parking and shifting, as well as awd.
-An 8 speed gearbox
-And a $46,000 base price.
@@User-J-f9t that's totally understandable
There's no replacement for displacement
Between the butt ugly front end and crap-tastic 4 cylinder, it's a big pass for us. My business/ wife has had a few, it was the perfect 3 row people hauler as an airport shuttle for family visiting us at our Florida home... we won't be looking at Buick to replace that buick. Fire Mary B for this atrocity alone!
Who's buying it for $60,000 dollars? No one.
Old people. Lots of old people with money not caring about depreciation.
Old ppl go for Cadi instead
Engine kills the deal. $65k and you hear the engine. Noooo thank you
Turbos that fail after 40k. No thanks.
We see how that turned out…
'BUICK is a all SUV brand' well..that is a damn shame
$60K for a Buick? Gee whiz.
over stressed 4 cyl ,60 grand price, probably almost no resale value, i bet this 4 cyl wont make a hundred thousand miles 😅😅
Looks like a cheap Chinese station wagon. Same generic front-end on most Chinese cars... Fugly! The interior is nice though. But 50-60K for a 4-cyl GM product? Forget it.
i the new styling on the enclave facelift it just me
The awful engine is a deal breaker for me. Sport Touring with 8 second 0-60. Unacceptable.
Not mechanically simpler engine. Keep your ill informed opinions to oneself. Or learn about subject before becoming a TH-cam expert.
Does it have Magna ride? If not it should
Analog suspension is only way to go. No electronics. Coil and shocks. Done.
Magna ride is no more. It has adaptive dampers on the top trim but it’s no longer the old magic carpet ride GM used to have with Magnaride
Beautiful car, but the engine is a disappointment. Plenty of HP, but loud and not especially smooth.
❤❤❤
Had to press the awd button twice for it to work 😂….geez Buick!?
turbo 4, no thanks
No thanks...not with that engine😂😂
Put a Supercharged Buick 3800 V6 in it & call it a day. It'll get better mpg and last three times as long. 😂
Looks like a mini van
too you it is to me its not and you talking about the terraza thec enclave is not a minivan its a crossover suv
Folks! It's just awful! Awful, awful, and just more awful! The Honda Pilot is sporting a silky Twin Cam V6!
This thing is f u g l y.
Still looks like it does its job well though
buick haters all over whats wrong with people they just dont care any more but them selfs
8 seconds is terrible
I don't think the former V6 was a great engine when it came to major service items. Hopefully the 4 cylinder is engineered better even if it doesn't have spunk of the V6.
What service items?
@@dukeallen432 nicely said 👍🏻
@dukeallen432 he lucked out too
So sad
Cant unsee the horseshoe mustache front end
Hideous junk! I can’t wait for GM to go out of business, I don’t even know how they’re still a thing.
Your opinion means nothing... they just had highest sales ever
I feel sorry for anyone that would buy this crap, just take into consideration that they were so bad that they had to be bailed out by the government before. Same with Chrysler.
Government bailouts. And the government has absolutely nothing to bail them out with until they take it from the people first.
gm hater
I sure am a GM hater, CJ! You’re right!
The engine sounds horrible and overworked, same with the Traverse and Acadia.
you forgot the 4th one the cadillac xt6
