For me, it's my first time playing any Souls game and I've been stuck fighting them for like 5 hours. I wanna do it without summoning Solaire to actually get good at the game. My build is pretty shit, aside from my +5 Zweihander.
The two-handed running attack of any UGS, or any similarly heavy weapon, *always* staggers Ornstein, and it also staggers super Smough 90% of the time. The Zweihander's running attack carried me through my first playthrough.

What an amazing guide. As good as The Ghost Intiative or Fextralife's with a fraction of the views. I'd actually say this one is the best on TH-cam because of how it breaks down the different ways you can take them down (and it's generally positive and beginner friendly tone - a real rarity in the DS community!). I really wanted the Ornstein armor, and I also wanted to solo them, so any video that recommended killing him first or using a summon was basically useless to me. I still haven't beaten them yet, but I've gotten much closer thanks to this guide. Edit: I finally beat them and got Ornstein's armor, and I can say it was mostly because of this guide!! Thanks :)

I remember defeating Smough first then super Ornstein on my first try. Now that I'm in NG+ and I'm back to where I used to be the boss fight became much harder

@@TwoStarPlayers I just did, 5 minutes ago. The Tip with the Pillars is REALLY helpful. Even when the pillars are down the offer good protection. I beat them with the Giant Club +5 and Jump Hard attacks. Oh and the Silver Knight Shield was also really helpful. In the past i did really well with 2 handed Crystal Halberdt. It still amazes me he great the 2 work together. I think they are the hardest Boss Fight in the Game.

I tried a bunch practice and keep from wasting humanity but it was difficult because for some reason Ornstein was lagging behind Smough so I spent way to much time running around the arena looking for an opening. But with Solaire and my true loves the pillars I was able to take them down.

I’m on my first ever run of the game so I wasn’t confident about this fight. It took me 27 goes across two hours but I managed to do it without ever summoning anyone. The Eagle Shield is perfect for this fight because it has great stability, and I had some of Havel’s armour too so I didn’t suffer too much knockback. Oh, and having the Black Knight Greatsword didn’t hurt… But what really worked for me was patience. One hit at a time, as you say! Anyway, thank you again.
Amazing! I was stuck on 2nd phase Ornstein for at least 4 hours, trying to time rolls and getting punished HARD. After putting my Eagle shield up, beat him first try! Thanks alot! Probably saved me at least another 4 hours of trying to git gud and getting stabbed in the face for it :)
So I didn't have any humanity, spent 20 minutes to figure out that only the Painter Guardians can be farmed for soft humanity. Finally, got my humanity, rushed back to Solaire for some happy help. As I was coming down the stairs and red phantom snuck up behind me, back stabbed me and pushed me into the giant knight guys....AHHHHHHHH!!!!! WTF?!!! Did you know that you can be silently invaded? Well you can and anyone who does that to someone is a piece of poo! Why is it fun or even challenging to sneak up on a player who doesn't know you are there and kill them? WOW you are such a good player, you can kill unaware people from behind, I'm super f*cking proud of you, gorg!
Haha oh no, that sounds frustrating. Invasions are a part of the game, for better or worse - it sucks a little that Anor Londo is a bit of a gank spot for super geared twinks preying on less experienced players but if it really bothers you that much I suggest you just play offline for a bit while in Anor Londo, if you're only going to summon Solaire. Playing online lets you get humanity from helping OTHER people beat the bossfight though, which is probably faster than farming painting guardians AND lets you practice the fight. Food for thought :) You got this!
3 mega important things that helped me with this fight: 1. kill ornstein first. super smough is WAY easier than super ornstein 2. sometimes its easier to turn off lock-on so that if one of out of sight, you can move the camera back onto both of them 3. you dont always have to roll. sometimes you can literally just walk backwards and save your stamina
To point number one, I honestly think this is a matter of preference and playstyle. I STRONGLY prefer fighting super Ornstein. And my observation from literally hundreds of fights as a sunbro here is that people are really, really bad at getting out of range of super Smough's electric boogaloo.
Idk how I'm ever going to get past this fight. Ever. It's a shame too, since it's a cool one, but I can't get over how far you have to go order to just try again. I lit all 3 bonfires, and none of the routes are any better than the other. They're cancer. Not to mention that so many times I'm getting hit while I'm down, giving me no chance of recovery, meaning I feel your chances are next to nil unless you can no-damage this fight. I'm trying to "git gud," but it's such a vague tip that I don't know how else to do it besides try and try again and bash my head against the wall. And I'm even using the crystal halberd. That's how trash I am right now, and it's killing my motivation to try again. I mean, what's the point if this is giving me no satisfaction whatsoever. I'm tempted to just put this down because none of the other games are giving me this much frustration.
I'm so sorry to hear you're frustrated with the fight. I hear ya, I've had moments like that as well. It's not perfect as far as guides go, but in my Dark Souls LP you can see how I run to the boss and only really "fight" 2 enemies here: th-cam.com/video/A9WAy8g0Lnk/w-d-xo.html I really suggest you take the same route. I parry the Silver Knights here, which is something I suggest you learn. If you're only ever going to learn how to parry ONE type of enemy in the game, make it silver knights. Invest some time learning the right timing, just so you can get to the boss faster and with more Estus. On runs where I take damage before the bossfight because I flubbed a parry, I usually just run back to the bonfire and start again. With a bit of practice you can just run/roll past the big giants. No need to fight them, unless you want to summon Solaire in which case I strongly suggest you fight them before summoning so he doesn't power himself out before the boss. The way to do it is to run over from the top and take the archer out first, then go down the stairs and just immediately run for the big door to the outside. That way, you un-aggro one of the giants and can fight 1:1. From that moment on, you need a 100% physical damage reduction shield with solid stability and block or roll through their swings. Attack them from the back, learn to tell their damage spell tell and run away when it happens and do not stand directly in front of them ever. You can actually roll through their legs when they do the shield slam, but it's a dangerous game. Trade any souls you get for upgrade items at the giant blacksmith before entering the boss door so that it doesn't feel like you're wasting your souls in case that is bothering you. Good luck, and don't give up skeleton! If this wasn't helpful, let me know what you're struggling with and I'll try to see if I can think of a way to help.
@@TwoStarPlayers Right now, I feel the bonfire inside the building is a bit better than the one under the elevator, and I've at least been blocking the silver knights attacks, then turning and ignoring them. Not 100% hitproof, but it works. And I already run past the giant knights. So I can run to the boss with no damage, but it just feels so taxing, as the run feels like another boss in itself. One issue now is that I'm having trouble baiting out Ornstein. Whenever I focus on Smough, he relentlessly jabs, but when I distance myself and want him to lunge, he only does short ones, making him no faster than Smough. I've decided to limit myself to 5 tries a day so I don't burn myself out, so see you when I beat this boss in 20 years, I guess.
@@hydroshock1853 There is a much better route to the boss. Step one is to rest at the bonfire with solaire in anor londo. Then, walk out of the room with the bonfire you just rested at and kill the knight next to the spiral staircase shown at 3:50. Walk around half way up the staircase and on your left there is a bridge. Take a running start from a bit farther up the staircase and hop right over the railing onto the bridge. This deals no fall damage. Then go straight across the bridge and into the room with the 2 big sentinel knights. Then simply run past them into the boss room. This route takes me less than a minute and you only have to actually fight one enemy. If your worried that this is considered cheating, it is not because it uses no glitches and the developers intentionally kept it in the game for the remaster.

Why people need a guide for bosses in DS is beyond me, the whole fun of it is dying over and over until you finally figure it out. It took me 2 days of trying and failing to beat these guys, didn't need a guide I'm sure many are like me though and watch this stuff after beating the game XD
Greatsword does super well in this fight. I beat ornstein with giant fireballs and fire orbs. Just had him chasing me in circles. Then greatsword for super smough

I really wanted to use the humanity to summon solaire but i misclicked and used all 11 of them at the same time. Then died to the archers just before i realised i needed them. Im going to farm souls for hours it seems
Oh man, that's unlucky. But you could drop your summon sign on the ground and help other people beat the boss! If you're successful, you will be turned human again.
To add to what Nik said, you won't be turned human like in DS2 and DS3, but you will receive a soft humanity you can use restore humanity at a bonfire each time you successfully help somebody beat a boss.
This video is 3 years old but it helped me so much on beating smough and ornstein! Killing smough first was a bitch, but it was so worth it for the leo ring and ornsteins armor
I beat them today for the first time, solo, Smough first and then big Ornstein. Admittedly, though, I was pretty overlevelled and used Velka's rapier to deal tons of damage
This one time where I had summoned solaire to help me fight, I didn't kill the enemies in the hall, so when he was summoned I booked it to the fog wall. He eventually made it there but was trying to hit the enemies through the fog gate. His AI can be really stupid sometimes, so I had to bait one of the bosses over to hit him for him to actually lock on.
My firet time playing this, im intimidated to even start this fight lol i havent had much resistance except for the capra demon but this gives me chills.
get 16 int, olachile staff, dark beads, power within, dusk crown, sorcery ring, and yeah, the biggest shield you can wield, and you can cheese this even if you are not a mage, if you are a mage, try to cover your eyes to make this a bit more challenging
Very much so. Open that first big door as soon as you can and bonfire. Then, attack hollows in front of gate, then the spear blob around the statue, bonfire, repeat. I'm on New Game + and the spear blobs give 1000 souls each. I levelled like 4 times in 15 minutes.
How you beat these two is how you will beat the rest of the game was guns blazing learning the moves patterns both or cheesing or strategic And all the bosses that come after them are far easier o defeat

I really don’t know what to do here. I can’t seem to find a way to fight ornstein without smough constantly one shorting me. Many of the times I can’t even hit them once. This is the one part of the game that I really just can’t do.

Lol I actually did them 2nd try first time and did smough 1st, then Ornstein. Guess I was overleveled cz in new game plus I got stuck as I did only the necessary bosses to beat the game and my exams are near😂
Yes, they respawn. Typically it's better to just attempt to run past them without fighting them, and going through the boss door before they can catch up with you. But if you want to summon Solaire to help you, you probably need to deal with them. They have a maximum range that they will follow you, so if you go to the end of the room only one of the giants will attack you and the other will stay behind, that way you can at least deal with them one at a time.
for me killing smogh first and ornstein second is easy for me because after orenstein become giant just close to him he can't hit you but when he jump get away from him and yeah i recomende get getting black knight weapon because they have so much damage especialy black knight spear
I take serious offense when you say there's no glory in beating these bosses solo, cuz there is. The moment you finally beat them and get that rush and joy like "YEEAA F**K YOOUUUU".. Yea cheesing them with a partner doesn't have the same effect wtf are you even saying. All the glory is in beating them solo.
You can't help other players (easiest humanity source)? In that case, go to the depths and farm the rats - they drop humanity. If you have the covetous gold serpent ring equip it (found in Sen's fortress) for more item drops. Good luck!

If you have that one Snake Ring that increases drops you can equip it and head to the painted world to farm humanity from our friends the rats.

get 16 int, olachile staff, dark beads, power within, dusk crown, sorcery ring, and yeah, the biggest shield you can wield, and you can cheese this even if you are not a mage, if you are a mage, try to cover your eyes to make this a bit more challenging
Can I do this with drake sword?

Go into the painted world and farm some souls to level up a bit more before going into this fight!
Very much so. Open that first big door as soon as you can and bonfire. Then, attack hollows in front of gate, then the spear blob around the statue, bonfire, repeat. I'm on New Game + and the spear blobs give 1000 souls each. I levelled like 4 times in 15 minutes.

I really don’t know what to do here. I can’t seem to find a way to fight ornstein without smough constantly one shorting me. Many of the times I can’t even hit them once. This is the one part of the game that I really just can’t do.

I am playing dark souls right now and this boss fight is annoying. I've died more than 30 times... I saw this video and I really liked it and helped me understand the boss. tomorrow I will use your advise and try defeating them... wish me luck

@@fatfurry how did it go? Well, they are one hell of a boss and it was very though but I was able to defeat them. Rn am at my second run of the game and this time I was able to defeat them way easier. Absolutely worth it ♡♡

Lol I actually did them 2nd try first time and did smough 1st, then Ornstein. Guess I was overleveled cz in new game plus I got stuck as I did only the necessary bosses to beat the game and my exams are near😂
What do I do against the 2 giants before the fight? Do they respawn? I almost used all my estus against them, how did you deal with them?
Yes, they respawn. Typically it's better to just attempt to run past them without fighting them, and going through the boss door before they can catch up with you. But if you want to summon Solaire to help you, you probably need to deal with them. They have a maximum range that they will follow you, so if you go to the end of the room only one of the giants will attack you and the other will stay behind, that way you can at least deal with them one at a time.

for me killing smogh first and ornstein second is easy for me because after orenstein become giant just close to him he can't hit you but when he jump get away from him
and yeah i recomende get getting black knight weapon because they have so much damage especialy black knight spear

I take serious offense when you say there's no glory in beating these bosses solo, cuz there is. The moment you finally beat them and get that rush and joy like "YEEAA F**K YOOUUUU".. Yea cheesing them with a partner doesn't have the same effect wtf are you even saying. All the glory is in beating them solo.

You can't help other players (easiest humanity source)? In that case, go to the depths and farm the rats - they drop humanity. If you have the covetous gold serpent ring equip it (found in Sen's fortress) for more item drops. Good luck!
