SO glad I found your channel. I'm rebuilding my home (apartment) production studio and I've been building around the same main parts - SPDSX, Ableton/Push and some analogue gear mixed in. Couldn't find anyone else with similar setups until I found your channel while troubleshooting a SPDSX/Ableton issue. And that final beat was DOPE!!
Thanks so much! So glad you found the video helpful. Love that you’re incorporating the spdsx into your set up! It can be a secret weapon for a drummer when it comes to music production. Thanks again for tuning in! Much love!🤘🏾
Thanks so much! I appreciate you taking the time to watch! And I actually have a studio tour video in the works for the near future. Stay tuned for sure! Thanks again for tuning in, much love!🙏🏾
🙌🏾Aye!! I love it!! Glad I could give you that nudge. Definitely put your spd to good use, it can be a beast of an addition to your production arsenal for sure! Thanks for watching, appreciate you! 🙏🏾
Excellent video, my friend. Very informative and explained in a way that I can understand, as a person who self engineers and produces my own music over many genres. A lot of crossovers for general engineering and producing 🙏
Super glad I found your video. This is really cool. Love to see different setups and workflows. Would love to see a video with the full template. Thanks!
Another amazing video Henry! Thanks for including my comment in the intro, I had a feeling this video was coming soon. ALSO this beat has Glass Animals written all over it. RELEASE THIS NOWWWWW!!!! - Much love from MA
Thanks so much!! Thanks for tuning in! And I gotta thank you for being one of the ones who asked the question. It definitely pushed me to make this video. Appreciate you!🙏🏾
Thanks so much, appreciate you taking the time to watch! And I highly encourage to to get a synth. It opened up a whole new world for me. Much love and success on your journey!
Hi Henry! Thank you so uch for this video. Could you pls explain how how you automatically get the different audios out of one midi-track? I dont understand how you get out different audio tracks out of one midi drum track. That would be so NICE!
Thanks so much, I appreciate you taking the time to watch! As for how I convert the midi to audio, it all starts within the addictive drums 2 VST. The plugin allows you to route the individual drum channels within the plugin to separate audio tracks that you must create within your DAW and properly set the input to the proper channel correlating with the Addictive Drums plugin. It sounds like a lot, but it’s pretty simple once you’re actually looking at the plugin in front of you and going through the process hands on. There are several videos online that can probably help better than I can. Let me know if you’d like me to link the video that helped me. Hope this helps and thanks again for tuning in!
Awesome stuff man. I've been looking to get an apartment drum setup like yours. Thanks for the walk through on the gear and your plugin choices and template too. Love the channel, great music keep it up. You'll be at 100k followers in a blink!
No Latency when drumming to tick? seems like it was pretty good on timing!.. no hihat pedal? :) What computer you run? PC? Mac? interface? Also what's more about you? How did you get all these skills? and also afford all these wonderful toys. :) ha Good video. thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! As for latency, as long as I start off with a low buffer size and record drums before I have too many other plugins running simultaneously, latency is never an issue. I have a MacBook Pro, on the M1 chip.
I would love to know what samples you use on the pad when you are playing live. I wonder about this all the time, and could really use some help. Maybe even some examples of you using the pads with the kit, that would be great! Thanks!
When I’m playing live I almost always use my own samples that I’ve uploaded myself. For example if I’m playing with an artist, I’ll upload sounds from their music to make sure I can match the original feel with the sounds from the record. But you can upload sounds from anywhere like splice, sample packs, sounds you’ve created etc. you just have to make sure they are formatted correctly. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Thank you!! The only routing I had set up is for the addictive drums plugin and all that routing happens within the plugin itself. There are a bunch of videos showing how. Let me know if you’d like me to link the video that helped me, I’d be happy to send it your way. Thanks again for tuning in, much love!🙏🏾
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to watch! As for learning drums, the best way to get started in my opinion is to learn basic drum grooves. If you look up beginner rock groove tutorials, you’ll likely find a lot of videos that will be a good starting place to activate coordination basics. When it comes to incorporating drums in production, it’s all about groove so starting there would really be beneficial. But drums is like a language, learn one word at a time and before you know it you’ll be having full blown and fluent conversations. Hope this helps and thanks again for tuning in!
Didn't expect to find such a helpful video on a niche topic, thank you so much! Quick question: how do you have your velocity settings set up on your spd? I find it hard to get a realistic feel for cymbals. Thanks!
Thanks so much, super happy that you found the video helpful! As for the velocities, it was honestly just a bunch of trial and error. I spent days trying to get the feel just right for the current set up I use. Every pad has different sensitivity settings as well and you just have to adjust the threshold and pad sensitivity until it feels right to you. And depending on the external pad you’re using, if any…within the spdsx there’s an option where you can assign the exact trigger you’re using and that also presents different sensitivity options than the 9 pads on the spdsx. But I hope this helps and thanks again for tuning in, much love!🙏🏾
Thanks so much, so glad you found the video inspiring! As for the open hats, I have the open hat programmed to one pad on the spdsx and the closed hat on another. When used together it reacts the same as thought it were being controlled by a hi hat pedal. Hope this helps and thanks again for tuning in, I really appreciate it!
@@its.justhenry we actually have a lot in common. I also play drums and keys and about a year ago I finally managed to learn guitar and base. It would take hours for me to find out what digital drum set I should buy for producing and I also don‘t really wanna go down that rabbit hole. I know the hardware you are using, but I never really considered buying it. Well, that changed tonight! Awesome stuff, just keep going, I already sunscribed to your channel. Looking forward to hear some funky „overproduced music“! 😊
@@abzee733 Thank you, there is definitely more on the way and I appreciate the sub! Thank you!! I operate on a MacBook Pro M1 chip and I always start off with a 128 buffer size in my session and I keep all of my plugins turned off until I actually need to use them. So it really isn’t too heavy on cpu and when it does become more cpu intensive with more plugins engaged, I’ll bump up the buffer size to accommodate as necessary. Hello there sir, this was just what i was looking for. can i ask you whats the stand that you are using for the kit?
The stand is a part of the Roland e-drum rack. It’s from the the Td-30 series. I’m only using a section of it because I didn’t need the entire rack.
Really inspiring video. What do you use for open hats? Is it just another pad? Does it feel real enough?! Thank You!

There are 2 inputs and in total you can connect up to 4 external triggers.
