This is one of my favorite bing bangs Sir Who Tee Who shares with us all of his fans. 35 Whelen was a caliber my dad told me I should get years ago when I was moving up from my 35 Marlin. Only reasons I didn’t was nobody knew nothing about it much and ammo wasn’t as available as the 30/06. Still a fan of 35 W but the 30/06 has been good to me as well. @@elvinirons5959 I’ve taken several big game with the 35 Remington and would suggest it to anyone hunting deer or bear in areas where most shoots are under 200 yards. But if given the choice to get either the 35 Whelen or 35 Rem the Whelen can handle longer distance better and has the power for bigger game like buffalo or grizzly bear. If you ever plan on a hunt for the bigger species the Whelen would be a good tool. This is only this hillbilly’s opinion and not worth much. But the 35 Rem will certainly be a great tool that’s much cheaper and more available ammo then the 35 W. Don’t know if that helps at all but just my 2 cents worth. I was very impressed with the Whelen on how it took the buffalo. Good hunting to you and yours. 💯
My favorite rifle round, period. Always seemed like it got about 1% of the recognition that it deserved. Only recently did I learn that Hornady quit producing the .358" 250gr round nose, which of course was my preferred bullet. Their 250gr spitzer is a good substitute, though.
@@jtm8779 those aren't very good. They are good for lever actions with mag tubes, but for .35 whelen, you can get far better . 200 grain barnes tipped tsx in .358 caliber for example. The ftx rounds would be better for a 35 remington.
I had some locals bring their 7 and 10 yo out to the range shooting 350 legend out to 200 yards and were nailing tannerite targets the size of a penut butter jar. Now im back into being excited over .35 cal stuf
Col. Townsend Whelen passed away a year after I was born. But I read his articles from old gun publications kept in my grandmother's home during the 60s and 70s. They were very inspiring. Great video Who Tee Who!!
Awesome vid! Brought back a lot of memories. I had a chance to hunt bison on the Standing Rock Rez in North Dakota in 2019. Harvested a massive mature bull, using my papa’s 1964 Remington Game Master 30-06. It was the most emotional hunt of my life due to the respect these icons of the American west deserve.

I found a CVA Elite Stalker .35 Whelen in a pawn shop a year ago this summer and took my biggest buck yet with it. It's a thumper but I love the round and I'd love to find it in a good bolt action.

I'll be doing a bison hunt this fall and am able to choose 338 win mag, 35 whelen, or a Lazzeroni warbird 7.82. All can handle 200 grain plus loads. Any opinions?

One beautiful Buffalo you took. I couldn’t agree more with you about hearing protection, 43 + years ago when I was a teenager and shooting without hearing protection has given me the gift of hearing aids for the last year. I wish back then they stressed hearing protection like they do now.
Second I have been doing some research on the 35 Whelen cartridge (Ron Spomer is very informative) and are you happy with your single shot or would you prefer a bolt action. The reason I ask is that bolt actions seem to be few and far between chambered in the 35 Whelen. The Ruger M/77 is about all I can find and I would prefer a more budget friendly rifle.

To me the 35 Whelen is quite capable of hunting dangerous game and for me I would feel more assured if all I had to do was work the bolt and have a follow up shot ready (if needed). I may end up getting a single shot and practice, practice, practice with it. So would you have preferred a bolt action or does the single shot drop em just fine. I’m just wanting an outside opinion before the go buy a new rifle. Thank you

I have wanted a 35 Whelen in the Ruger No 1 for a while, but they’re expensive. So as you shown here the CVA Scout is a great budget friendly option that is accurate to boot 🥾

At 7:32 the bison are following the vehicle in the background like they are used to feed being distributed by truck. About as difficult to sneak up on as a herd of Black Angus.
Can't get any better eating than Bison!! Word of wisdom from a trained chef, cook no more than medium, even with the burger. So tasty and very, very healthy!!

Do they transport, and butcher vacuum pack the meat for you ? Looking at doing a similar hunt, but would have no way to transport after a successful hunt ?
Great hunt WTW it was nerve racking i felt like i was that close to the Bison too lol great shot that .35 Whelen is a beast! Glad I managed to accrue 1000 or so of those 250 grain bullets before they stopped making them! My go to moose bullet

I used a .35 Whelan to plug some woodchucks in upper N.Y. state about 40 years ago at 200 yards. It certainly did the job.

I have the TC Encore Pro Hunter with the 35 whelen barrel it's freak'n awesome. I use my suppressor on mine and there's almost no recoil.

Congratulations on the big bull!! It's amazing you got to see not just one white Buffalo but two. Buffalo meat is extremely scrumptious I grew up in Wyoming and we ate more Buffalo than beef. Enjoy the antelope meat too It's not for everyone LOL I will eat it.
Bought a scout in 243 she started shooting it when she was 8 and never had a problem shooting it. She's 11now and loves shooting it.
