Hi from uk Mike and crews👋👍 couldnt help but notice how beautiful the pond lioked in backround being frozen and everything white👌😍 I would love to see your dads d6 restored to it would be a great trophy machine to have knowing it was the start of yourself💓 sorry I never knew about your dads accident 😢 he will be so proud of you and all you accomplished in life💓 and exactly as you said the tale of 2 stories between 850j and d6 well done mike we are proud to follow you and your amazing family journey thanks for bringing us ALL along with you 👍 thanks for your time and be safe see you soon ps you got a great fleet of machines and no matter what you say you love them all 👌💓
Thanks for sharing your dad's dozer, always wondered about it. I'm with ya on restoring it!!!! I started with a lawnmower and trailer 25 years ago,now have excavator, skidsteer, dump truck, all that stuff. Alot of work but satisfying.
Mike……Could Aaron build you a Ripper Stand for your 850J. You could back up to the stand, raise it up, back up then lower the Ripper onto the stand. All you would need to do then is remove the Bolts, pins, hydraulic lines and drive away….lol.. Just saying…No hoist needed…..🧐 Great coverage on your equipment Mike.
i have loved equipment since i was young computers and heavy equipment, 1 uncle an electrical engineer and the other a heavy equpment operator, mainly dozers, spent his carrier building rt95 from portsmouth nh to the Canadian border. every time i travel south its over something he played a part in. im not an operator, im a programmer that does whatever i need to do, mini ex, chain saws engine/trans building. my point is we are both a lot alike big egos and all. i love the fact that you are able to get done what needs to get done. Also your equipment to me is top notch, sure the paint may be faded on some but i have seen many cats up here that i wouldnt hire them simply because there machines are beat to shit, broken windows, broken counterweights and doors, 1 company i swear he moves more demolition debris with the counterweight than he does with the bucket. the owkr you did on the 120 brought it back to working even smoother. although i miss the floppy bucket jokes. hope you have another successful 3 years. and i hope to see the work with you and gunner fixing up the d6
It is quite obvious that your business has grown exponentially and by all accounts will do so in the future with the new (old) haul truck and either a new Volvo 220 or Hyundai excavator already 'in the works'. Well done Dirt Perfect and family.
About the loader it's better to have it and not always need it than to need it and not have it. You are Wright about the truck side here in California if the truck doesn't have Def the state will not let you register it .2011 and older goes for sale 2011 and newer stays where I retired from we had specialized trucks that were 1986 and had only 10000 miles on it we were told to get it gone. Really enjoy your videos.
WOW....my Dad had a 56 9U......spent a lot of hours wrenching and running it...as the years went on only my Dad and me could run it...it took several hours to fiddle with the pony motor to get it started (but it always did start).......the manual track adjusters were long frozen and the tracks wanted to throw themselves on every turn....but what an awesome dozer!!!!!!! You'll have me glued to the channel if you start to restore that bad boy!!! (although I would always keep the pony.....while it's a pain to fiddle with it is one of the reasons those D318 motors lasted as long as they did)
You don't leave much to the imagination as your descriptions are ALWAYS spot on with details based on FACT(S) not likes! Also, we've seen "what she looks like in the morning" because you've gotten past the pretty and into what makes them run redone most all you have and that's IMPRESSIVE! IF & WHEN love to see ROADSIDE! THX
Nice to see the update on the equipment you have and your thoughts (good and bad). I watched you go through the thought process when you bought the Volvo, you do your research before spending the big money. I enjoy watching you, NYA MILLENNIAL, MBTS, CAPTAIN KLEEMAN and of course Jerry. You have a great crew and you all work together well. Now back to Lt. Dan, we are ready to get back to that project. Thanks
I'm basing my opinion going back 20 years...but imo...at the time...the best skidsteer I ever ran was a gehl...most comfortable and dependable machine I ever ran...loved the Perkins motor too
Glad to see you doing well man👊, My dad had an excavation company for 45 plus years he started from nothing but a old 580 case backhoe and a 350 case track loader, I grew up in the dirt and I’m still doing it today, it fed our family and kept us all close over the years, glad to see you involving your family in it as well, it made me who I am and I’m forever thankful for what it taught me. God bless brother and wish y’all the most success 👊 good luck with that kubota 🤣 Takeuchi are what we use mostly we got a few of the new 279D3 cat’s and I tell ya what they are dang nice but they got the swing out door, I’m not a fan either
For minis in that size the cat cab is the biggest. Being 6'1" 240 I feel your pain. Last year when I brought mine I tried out almost every brand in that class and the cat cab is the biggest with the most leg room. But harder then some for getting in and out. Plus the C model is mechanical injection. Great tour, thank you!
Huge thanks for taking the time out from a working day to cover this video, Mike and it has been really interesting to see what makes up your plant with its pro's and cons.
@@oddtechman I consider them all an expression of jealousy based on ALL he does with what he has & fixes what breaks HIMSELF (& crew!) w/VERY little they can't do!
The right equipment makes work enjoyable and more productive. As a concrete contractor I believe in equipment. I tend to buy new because I am not a very good mechanic. Picking up a new international cv515 dump truck today been waiting for since may
Mike, this is an interesting video. I'd like to hear about the trucks and trailers. I remember you talking about them here and there, but a dedicated video would be nice. I have a nephew who is a little younger than you, 37. He grew up on his grandfather's farm tractors and excavation equipment. He got his CDL when he was 18. About 5 years ago he went on his own doing building, he has a lot of experience in building too. He also bought an international single axel tilt bed for road salt and a plow. To be sure he had work enough to pay the bills, he took a plowing contract with his town. He bought a small excavator and low bed to haul it on. He now has a wheeler dump truck with a highway plow and wing for his town plowing, he has bought a larger excavator and Case skid steer that he got caught in this past winter. He does a lot of septic systems and road work. His big money maker is an Autocar wheeler with a 5000-gallon vacuum tank on it that he pumps septic tanks with year-round. His biggest issues have been around DEF systems. That's one reason his dirt moving equipment is pre-DEF. I guess my point of this long comment is he bought all used equipment that needed work. He owes nothing on any of it. He has the same thinking that you have, don't buy new and have a huge payment. If you buy older you can get that next piece of equipment WHEN he needs it. He also has no employees. If he needs help, he gets his old, retired uncle, me or his retired stepfather to help. I help with the building and his stepfather has a CDL. We're finally coming to the end of mud season and heavy road limits here in Maine so the dirt work can start back up. The guys work year-round except March and the first of April when the roads are posted.
Although I'm not in a line of work where I use such equipment, I do love being able to hear honest unbiased opinions on things. Very well done. The roadside of things would be interesting, but I know you a busy man and so not a priority. But as you are pretty much my favorite youtube channel, between the guys you have on there and just the way you are, I will gladly watch pretty much anything you put on here. Much luck to you and the family, extended fam included, on everything brother.
Oh that's a big time for I would love to see what you have on the roadside seen many in different videos but not like the video you just showed about the equipment that was very interesting thank you
I'd like to see the road equipment. When the time is right you an Gunner will get the D6 in to rebuild. I'm like everyone else like to see LT Dan done but I won't push cause I'm on year 5 of a truck rebuild goal is end of next year having it running again. Just gotta find a good donor motor for it to keep it period correct
From watching all your videos over the years, I knew subconsciously you had a fair amount of equipment but never realized how much until you laid them out for us in this video. I agree your equipment needs/wants are dictated by the type of work you do. When you business model changed the equipment needs changed a bit as well.
Impressive Sir !!! 😎💪 Lots of big and small toys for you to use (play with) under the cunning disguise of work !!! 😉 They all have their specific roles and purposes in your fleet, some are just more versatile. Can see you teaching Gunner the art of rebuilding plant to restore your Dads dozer, that will be a great one to record and keep !!!
Get a hold of Macallister Machinery. We still have all of the old parts books and have some places we can source parts if we don't actually have them. Our owner owns several of the older machines.
Then start them up roll forward slowly 1 full turn.& backwards 1 full turn stop.& mover on to the next side.,or you can do both sides at once then test roll in both directions. Then it's just retrying the equipment out again afterwards to see what improvements was made on them.
thanks for the equipment review and the stories for each one. very poignant about the family owned equipment and informative -especially the discussion about efficiency vs maintenance and fuel costs.
The blade on the 140 is the best I have ever seen. One question though with the configuration of the boom and stick can you touch the blade with the bucket I found the blade on excavators so much more helpful when trying to pick up rocks or concrete and stuff like that when you can use the blade to push up against.
Okay smooth roller ... I have not heard it run because I'm fairly new to your channel (at least watching anything other than shop videos) ... But the way you describe it running and under power makes it sound like you have at least one bad injector, possibly a whole set of them... Barring a compression test on each cylinder that would probably be the area to poke at when you have time.
you should try a t870 bobcat or Cat 299d3. Ive ran them for a couple of years and very solid machine and easy to maintenance. Also haved used the tl12v2 and she a beast.
With how you and Jerry talk about the difference in the 2 850's, I wonder if the location of the blade pivot has anything to do with it? The J has the pivot almost at the final drives, whereas the B has it fairly centrally mounted. Either way, thank you for the tour and comments, DP! It gives a lot of insight to one who wants to have a dirt moving business in the future.
look into a Volvo skid steer, I think you would be with one. I have a MC115 and love it. the side door entry was made for old fat guys. I use mine for logging and it has never failed me.
That 9U is pretty much in my neighborhood. Have had a whole engine around but now all I have is a head. That engine got used in a whole lot of things. As I recall, the engine in the crawler has three oil pickups where others have two or one. That machine would do well with a can behind it. Either hydraulic or cable would work. Great combo for ponds and small dams. Yea I know it's very old school but it works. One man can about do a pond all by himself-I've done it. I have a question about the tile plow. What grade of steel did you use? The only thing I would do is cross hatch hardfacing on the face. I've had very good luck with Ranite D either in one or two passes. Let the wear be dirt to dirt. BTW, the best engineers that I've ever known are the ones that get their hands dirty.
32:59 check Valve clearance, check temperature per cylinder if it has one misfiring - check fuel filters and possibly filter screen in the injection pump and in the fuel tank, check if the low pressure fuel pump - the priming pump works properly - perhaps it has a damaged diafram, bleed all lines and check if they are truely tight , perhaps use a dab of silicone on each connection - search for any possible acess area for air to give you bad prime in one or more cylinders - shouldnt be witchcraft to get it to run properly so long it has no mechanical failure or was assembled misstimed - like mistimed injection by having two fuel lines swapped on their port on the injection pump
If it has a turbo, perhaps it's not making enough boost, or you are leaking boost somewhere, or the boost diaphragm in the injection pump isn't working properly to add fuel in the correct ratio
@@williamuskoski1385 elaborate what that could be ? if the hydraulic pump locks up or has a rub spot the engine would die or the pump would lock up with metall shavings in the hydraulic oil, valves really dont do that except if it was solenoid controlled pilot valves with a electrical connectivity fault if you suspect something specific please elaborate
Just in they year that I have been watching your Chanel your priorities have changed it is interesting to watch and hear your reasoning for why it is happening.
I know you're busy as hell, but getting to my retirement age...hopefully in the next 5 to 10 years. Have 120 acres where we live and my wife's mom and dads place of 160 acres and my dad's place of 80 acres. Have an old '58 model TD 14A that my father-in-law used and a TD 18 cable that dad bought years ago. Just bought an old Ford 4000 Ind backhoe but really a pain to use IMO. Budget wise for 40k or less what kind of trachoe for farm use would be a decent type of machine. Seen a JD 120 with 3800 hrs listed for 24500 but swing unit was out. Said 10k to 12k to fix. Anyway wanted your thoughts if that was way outta line. Know you have lots of followers, and really enjoy your videos!
Nice lineup of equipment that you need to move that Dirt Perfectly Mike. Can't wait for Lt. Dan to actively join the fleet. He should be a great addition for certain jobs that you have to struggle with now.
Well, that was a nice tour, I think you've made good choices, I also remember you saying that one of the things you consider is whether or not "service and parts" are available in your area, and I think that's something a lot of people who "recomend" stuff to you forget.
DANG!! you got a pretty good deal on that loader. yeah, maybe not used often...but....when needed that plain works. and that protects you in the end financially AND physically.
Having the "dad" thing is great. But in my opinion, and I do believe you will agree, having a tool, dozer, equipment, saw, etc. will NEVER replace talking him, a hug, or his knowledge! I am in the same boat here!!!!!!!!!!
It would be interesting to see if any of the track loader/skid steer manufactures would bring out a machine for you to demo that they thing meets your requirements. You mentioned Takeuchi and JCB, how about the new ASV RT-135 or Wacker Neuson ST50?
Hey D.p. I wonder if you might do some upgrade like tinting the glass put in temp glass during inclimiate weather paint ing the roofs of a few pieces of equipment with white reflective paint to reflect the sun off the roofs next why not put in a few power converters to give you 120v and try those. Air chill in a few pieces it cools with ice cubes&water even if it makes it more tolerant to the heat I painted all my 16 trucks with white reflective paint for roofs it seem to help I sent you from harbor freight. a fire hose with nozzle can be attached to trash pump and if had a creek to power mud off the heavy equipment maybe be able to carry to leave that mud at that job site
Mike I don't know why you have not put AC IN the 120 you put it in Lt Dan So I know you. can make it work. Ok this is Bob from Vero beach Fla. God bless and have a great day and stay safe
Mike that Spray Lube you like and said you can't find, by C solutions, I think it was called? It is made by Goo Gone now. I saw the name on the bottle of Goo Gone I had. I hope you can find it there.
Interesting to see the equipment you have put together. Once you get a larger excavator and haul truck, you will be the full meal deal. But that is also a lot of equipment for a young dirt operation. Congrats!
Just a thought when you talk about skid steer doors, Why don't machines with traditional swing out doors not have an escape hatch in the roof? Seems like a sensible safety feature when there's a risk of getting stuck in it.
Cat IT28B is a 2cys (struck) loader , weighs about 23K lbs. I have a 936E that is a 2.5cys (struck) it weighs just over 27K lbs. The Old Cats are tuff as nails
Mrs. Dirt Perfect was right....(of course) the Volvo haul truck video did come out on her channel before your video. Yes please on the Road side equipment tour.
At time 14:00 is a nice place to keep the John Deeres and scag, stuff that was under the overhang at time 7:23 If only it was cleaned out , wow ! It has a ton of room.
I sure did like this video. Very interesting how you got started and your progression through the years. Also, very informative for anyone interested in buying some equipment. Thank you!
Overall, you have a nice fleet of equipment. Sized to handle the jobs you are working and it allows you go down in job size ( small projects) if you need to which, in my opinion anyway, gives a lot more options for work if the economy slumps. This also gives you purchase power for bigger equipment because you machines working , that are paid for to help pay for the next one you are looking to purchase. To me it boils down to fill the need, not the want, you can do that easier if you are willing to repair equipment and are not brand loyal. Every piece of equipment has a draw back some where. Thanks for the review, I enjoyed it, definitely look for the rebuild of your dads dozer, especially if Gunner shows an interest to help dad restore grandpa’s machine back to running condition.
Awesome video sir, some day I’ll be up to your level I hope with the business. I’ve really been looking at the 160 size excavator it big enough for the bigger jobs but still small enough for the smaller stuff and it’s still pretty agile
DP I been subscribed for some time, not in this business but what i love about your channel is how funny you guys are, you and MBTS and Mr Milinial, Most of all when jerry ribs you all that good
What do you not like about the Volvo coupler? Were the repairs required from abuse or neglect prior to you owning it? I think the psm thumb geometry is better. I do not like progressive link thumbs but I believe that psm I would like.
the roadside equipment would also be interesting to see and hear how you think about some off that
I think the item is the same body as the 928 I've run. 2 1/2 yd bucket.. Weighs around 25000.
heyyy now!!! I didnt almst bust that door! I didnt wanna force it and bust it haha, the boom arm wouldnt go down low enough!
Good to see you here Matt!
Enjoy your videos!

Never say never. The Mino has a swing out door and it's also the "latest and greatest". 😊

look into a Volvo skid steer, I think you would be with one. I have a MC115 and love it. the side door entry was made for old fat guys. I use mine for logging and it has never failed me.
Awesome life's trip you are having. Couldn't ask for no better. Thank you for the videos . Have an awesome weekend. 😀👍
Thanks for the tour and the breakdown on how these machines have worked for you, (would be fun to get input from Jerry ... 😉).
Look forward to see the D6 put back to fully operational bro. Enjoyed the video too. Safe travels
Yes I would like to see all the roadside equipment in a review video.
We just bought a New Holland C345 compact track loader, track skid steer, and really like it
Awesome
i learn to operate axcavators on a volvo 240, i loved that machine
Can also easily be in the hydraulic side of the machine tho
Hey Mike, try Zimmerman's Equipment in Missouri for parts for the D6 9u.
Nice job explaining the equipment side of these
finally!! been waiting for this for a while. lets see the roadside too please!
It would be interesting to see if any of the track loader/skid steer manufactures would bring out a machine for you to demo that they thing meets your requirements. You mentioned Takeuchi and JCB, how about the new ASV RT-135 or Wacker Neuson ST50?
Road side equipment would be of interesting. Get some of that from the Captain. Polaris was a prelude to that side of business.
Can you do a starting up video of all the equipment
Mike I don't know why you have not put AC IN the 120 you put it in Lt Dan So I know you. can make it work. Ok this is Bob from Vero beach Fla. God bless and have a great day and stay safe
There is a place in ky it’s like a parts place for old equipment on hwy88 before you get to cub run I don’t know if he will sale it
Our IT28’s came with 2 yard buckets.
Thanks for showing the dozer from your dad. I'm sure a mixture of emotions for you in regards to that dozer.
I have heard you mention the old dozer.
Congrats!
That d333 engine would be fun to rebuild been a long time since I have even seen a engine with a old scroll pump
Just a thought when you talk about skid steer doors, Why don't machines with traditional swing out doors not have an escape hatch in the roof? Seems like a sensible safety feature when there's a risk of getting stuck in it.
Good ?
Cat IT28B is a 2cys (struck) loader , weighs about 23K lbs. I have a 936E that is a 2.5cys (struck) it weighs just over 27K lbs. The Old Cats are tuff as nails
Mrs. Dirt Perfect was right....(of course) the Volvo haul truck video did come out on her channel before your video. Yes please on the Road side equipment tour.
What about the ASV skid steer? Thank you and have a great day.
At time 14:00 is a nice place to keep the John Deeres and scag, stuff that was under the overhang at time 7:23
If only it was cleaned out , wow ! It has a ton of room.
Did you moved to Alaska? Or what kind of icy weather did you have? Crazy!!! And where is your April Fool? 😆
I sure did like this video. Very interesting how you got started and your progression through the years. Also, very informative for anyone interested in buying some equipment. Thank you!
Thanks
Hello great video. What about the new dump truck yellow
ANOTHER VIDEO ON THE ROADSIDE VEHICLES 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
yes to one on the tucks and trailers (road side of your fleet) please
Nice recap Appreciated it. And yes, do the road stuff as well.
I can’t wait until you start on your dads dozer DP and as always great tour on all of your equipment.
I'd like to see the roadside. I'm just starting out and heading to the new Fed required 4 week CDL course next week.
Can you please do a video showing off all of vehicles like LT DAN the c8500 and the mack when you get a rainy day thanks love your videos
Awesome video sir, some day I’ll be up to your level I hope with the business. I’ve really been looking at the 160 size excavator it big enough for the bigger jobs but still small enough for the smaller stuff and it’s still pretty agile
DP I been subscribed for some time, not in this business but what i love about your channel is how funny you guys are, you and MBTS and Mr Milinial, Most of all when jerry ribs you all that good
Thanks appreciate that
Takeuchi tl12 r2 for sure no question.
What do you not like about the Volvo coupler? Were the repairs required from abuse or neglect prior to you owning it? I think the psm thumb geometry is better. I do not like progressive link thumbs but I believe that psm I would like.
The way the safety is set up and have a very hard time keeping keepers on the pins. And only coupler I have had to repair several times
Thanks Mike, you're a great operator and you make really good videos!
