A little late, however, I found your channel, I subscribed to your channel, only because you struck me as an honest person running and honest business. Been in situations like that and they are not pleasant, but you walk away still an honest person and the fact you are as busy as you are screams honesty and integrity. Stay the course, what goes around comes around sir,
I cleared a lot for a customer s few years ago. older guy. he watched all day long. he said make sure you save me 4 big white oak logs I do wood working and want some lumber cut. At the end of the day we loaded up a trailer load of pine pulpwood and took it to the woodyard on the way home. he also watched that. Get there the next morning and hes mad as hell saying weve stole all his hardwood logs that he wanted to save. I was like sir you only had 4 white oak trees and the logs are right there in pile where you wanted them. He kept going around to every big tree stump and measuring it with his tape measure and asking well wheres that log... well sir thats a pine and its right there in the other pile... It took all day for him to realize every log I cut other than pulpwood was still laying on the job.
We had a neighbor call the police on us in December because we drove across his beach on Lake Michigan with an excavator one time, they showed up, next day he came over and asked if he could hire us! Different neighbor in the summer said we could not park on her side of the street for the day because she is retired and needs to look out the window
i never trust a man who like's to keep a bottle of whiskey in his pocket sipping on it all day if you think he's just a little tipsy drunk i will not give him the time day and if any body is keeping track is any one going to have kittens if you go over 1or 2 tons on a 25 load deal
Honesty always pays! You went the extra mile to make everyone happy. I bet you can at least sleep at night. I know how frustrating it can be... Fun watching and listening you work! Ron...
I think you were absolutely correct. The only thing I would have done differently is I would have said loads or cubic yards not tons. As far as him being upset you aren’t buying 85 , that’s his fault. Sounds like he was trying to change deal on the fly
Yea he messed up on the volume metric. If he has no way to measure the weight how does he know he is stealing. Wet dirt vs dry dirt. When I buy mulch, sand, or stone its by yards. Only place I’ve seen buy weight is decorative rocks. Each being 5-20lbs. That’s only because they aren’t a uniform size.
I’m in the same business as you over here in Ohio. You were absolutely in the right. I hate when people accuse someone of being a thief. Integrity is what this work is all about. Keep up the great work.
You are right, take the high road! I just tell them doesn't look like we can do business in a way to help both of us! I have learned to count to 10 and think about response.
I recently got 100 loads of dirt for free from a subdivision. I just had had to pay for their loader time, and hire the trucks. Now, dirt to site time was only 9 minutes each way, with less than 2 minutes loading time/dump time, so they should have been able to do close to 3 loads/hour. With the loader hours, my cost per load should have been less than $35. But instead of 3 loads/hour we were getting less than 1.3 loads/hour. They kept showing up to together. I was curious what was going on (the owner of the trucks was driving too), so I drove up the loading site. The loader who worked for a different company told me they were sitting and waiting for each other...sometimes the lead truck would sit for 10 minutes. The first truck would get loaded, then wait for the others to finish loading. Then they moved out together like like a bunch of girls. Because the owner gets paid by the the hour, sticking together means more sitting, less driving, less work, and less wear on the truck. He knew that I was expecting close to 3 loads and hour, so he sat out of sight either at the load area, or dump area depending on where I was. Such bs, and I'll never use him again.
Someone who won’t honor a handshake after he looks you in the eyes, is nothing but a despicable sack. Find somebody else who will jump at the opportunity to do business with you, and someone that honors a handshake.
I agree 100% if I shake a mans hand and agree to something then I will go to the ends of the earth to honor what we agreed to. My daddy wasn't able to leave me anything but his good name and I be damned if I dishonor it.
Well sir, If I could still work, I'd work for you any day of the week. You are an honourable contractor. Some time back, I had a contractor to do a job, now looking back, I wish I hadn't asked him, as the handshake agreement with him, I found out through me being audited, he was just a scoundrel that took advantage of me and my health situation.
Well the handshake amount was for 85 loads, and not less. So the buyer was in breach for not honoring the amount that was agreed upon, not the person doing the selling.
Someone telling you your a thief is the worst especially when you are one of the honest ones that still does everything right when no one is looking. WOW. I cannot understand people!!!That dude is messed up. You did the right thing !!!! just avoid him that was the best decision you made trust me. Even if he were to come back and apologize it won't be the same man. Once a POS, always a POS!!!!
The reason people like your videos. Honest, Hardworking company. Wont watch you otherwise. I use to work with a company with a owner like you, REPUTATION is everything, keep on keeping on!!
A lady that has been a close friend of mine for 20 years and about the only person I have contact with any more has become a believer in that saying ---- once a POS always a POS. I've been telling her that since I first meet her. People don't change.
@@DirtPerfect Just wait til Karen of the neighborhood sees the road all broken at the driveways edge, there will be a manager or someone in charge called now!! LOL
I've spent over 50 years in construction, property management, and dealing with people in general. I learned early on that my first impression of a person was spot on. I have had to deal with people whom I personally did not like. You learn to do it and move on. This guy showed his true colors. The other thing is to get all agreements in writing. You just can't trust people to keep their word anymore.
I admire you Mike, you handled both the toxic dirt guy, and the toxic lady situations much better than I could have, and you had no regrets at the end of the day. God Bless brother 🙏🇺🇲
This with the "Stolen" dirt. He just wanted to take advantage of your kindness. First with the proposal to build a pond and then to try to get more money from his dirt. This is not uncommon unfortunately.
You showed great control with the "Neighborhood Watch Granny". I'd have asked her politely for the number of the local police, saying I was glad her neighborhood was so conscious of the traffic laws, ... and it was my duty to report the illegal and extremely unsafe conditions with the kids playing in the street.
There are toxic people everywhere. You just have to know when you've run across one - and you did! People like that develop a bad reputation while you maintain your good reputation. Pay him (and for the extra load), get the Volvo outta there ASAP and don't look back.
I've built houses for people like that. Just be glad you can drive away from it the same day. Just remember, someone somewhere is having a hell of a lot worse day than you are. There's no way to avoid them. The worst ones are the ones that convince themselves that their lies are true.
Your character and integrity speaks for itself, in volumes. You do what you feel is right. You have to feel good about your decision, not them. Nothing worse than ever questioning yourself, even if you shouldn't.
Yeah I was saying that myself about them backing in the drive,, I haven't drove a dump truck in 30 years and I know I could have backed in better than them. I felt your pain watching.
My family is in the excavating business and they run into an absolute jerk about every 15-20 jobs Not much you can do except swallow your pride and make the best of it. They usually loose money or barely break even when dealing with a jerk. My brother says if someone had slapped the taste out of their mouth when they were younger they wouldn't act that way. But an independent contractor must stand on their reputation so you have to do everything in your power to smooth things out. Great job on the peace keeping.
When I was growing up a man word was his bond and a deal was a deal then a handshake sealed it. If something came up they would sit down and talk about it and everyone in agreement about it before it went any further. But for someone to call another a thief he had better have something to back it up. We never get to see the everything from start to finish, but from what I have see you go above and beyond for the people your working for. Your a stand up guy and keep doing what you doing.
The country has changed. There are still areas in which this is the case. Everywhere else, put it in some form of agreed upon writing. There are a few exceptions, but not many.
Totally feel for you. Seems like no matter how much you try there's always a few people who are impossible to deal with. Just another reason I shut down my construction company years ago.
I worked with, bid against, and sold to contractors, subs, & service companies for 35+ years and one thing became apparent early on. The companies that had religious quotes plastered all over their trucks, or in some other way let you know how "religious" they were, had no problem whatsoever screwing you over. It happened enough to make us very wary of it. This isn't to knock religion in any way at all. Just the person/company. Always wondered if this was the case for many others.
Yes, I’ve seen it time and time again. I try not to work with or for any holy rollers these days. They think since they go to church and tithe they can get away with screwing people over and still go to heaven. Hate to say it but my brother is one of them.
There's always someone out there thinking they're going to get something for nothing 😡. My father and I went through that when we were in the HVAC business. You handled it absolutely correct. Wash your hands of it, but remember down the road when the SOB calls you for more work. Remind him that you're a thief in his eyes and tell him you're too busy with customers that want to work with you instead of against you. You'll never lose a thing because of him. Keep on keeping on 👍
DP I've been running my own business most of my life and one thing I learned very early on is you never move the goal posts after the game has started. That dude tried to sweeten the deal for himself by getting you to dig a pond for him and then accused you of being a thief. Sadly many people I've had dealings with exhibit the same attitude. When you agree to a deal, let your yes mean yes and your no mean no. Matthew 5 : 37. New World Translation. You did the right thing by parting ways and going elsewhere. Don't let the turkeys get you down and keep the videos coming, they are awesome. Greetings from down under. 😀😀👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Yep. I think he was happy with the dirt sale but his friends told him he shoulda got you to dig him a pond as you were getting the dirt then he decided to be an ass after you told him it wasnt gonna work out that way.
The small farming community I grew up in they have a saying, “ it was worth it to get to know you “. Which meant they were a person you don’t want to do business with! Mike you did everything you could. He’s the type of guy that tries to wiggle everything to get more than what was agreed upon. I’ve watched enough of your videos to know you have integrity and ethics. Don’t worry about that penis with ears!
all my life, one much older guy freind had a saying to me every one that ended in being an ex all the time, well was the fn you were getting worth the f**ing your taking, you can drive bulldozers pulp truck in there and they never come out
we only have a one sided story, from one person, what we see and what really is, are two different things.. just like we see a big compactor on the job, but it never seemed o have moved, that one hell of a pile of dirt to not have it move, but its there, for what, looks?
@@arnoldromppai5395 it’s clear it was used it just wasn’t videoed. You sound like someone I wouldn’t do business with. To quick to judge without all the facts.
Wow. You handled those two a lot better than I would’ve. Props to you. Putting both of them into the dirt would’ve been the right move at the moment, but long term you did the right thing. You’ve got a business to run and a beautiful family at home. Again, props to you for how you handled both. Love your content.
The devil will attack a good honest Man every single time......your GOOD & GODLY Mike.....you are HONEST....I watch you a lot....your one of the good guys.
I think your totally justified in leaving your agreement with dirt seller,he’s the one kept changing the deal, you tried to accommodate him. You gotta know when to cut your loss and move on! Karen, well, there everywhere, that’s what makes it....not boring! Keep doing right by your customers, let the idiots sort themselves out, they always do!
You did the right thing. I have been in the construction business for over 30 years. Your name and reputation are everything. I am like you in that I will screw my self over, before I would ever do it to someone else. I miss the days of doing business on a handshake and your word. Unfortunately every once in a great while, we come a cross such an individual as you did. In that case you have to cut your losses, continue to handle it like you did, and just be the better man. Word gets around as you well know, and it will catch up to him. More importantly, your reputation will be that much better for your actions.
The average person has no idea how to judge the weight or yards in a truck. It’s always funny how they think you are hauling so much till it hits the ground. Lol. Matt looks like he is getting the hang of the dozer. Great content. Keep up the good work.
This with truck drivers. It has always been herd animals. Already in the early 80's when I started we had an agreement to always come in flocks, so it is a secret agreement since the early 70's.
Mike the gentleman handshake was always as good as any contract in the business This guy was looking for something from you for free. You did nothing wrong my friend!!!
If you had 12 ton of #2s on then you pulled in the most your truck would haul is 16 ton and that would half to be wet I work at a coal mine in western md we sell dirt crushed stone and coal if you bought 85 loads it's 85 loads if you got a little more on than 15 ton you still agreed on the 85 loads on a tamdom truck.
Somebody always out their looking to screw someone. You seem like an honest upfront guy. I wouldn’t deal with him anymore. Don’t let someone else change how you are, or how you handle yourself. Keep up the good work.
I’m amazed that you’re almost willing to let him get away with keeping your Volvo. No matter what transpired between you two, that doesn’t give him the right to take possession of your equipment. That’s illegal in any state. If he keeps it, then we will all see who the real thief is.
Some people you’ll just never be able to make happy. You literally knocked on his door and asked him to take your money and he sat around for 6 months thinking of ways to jerk you around.
The first time he complained my thoughts were “ Here’s a Karen “. Then you do still change do apiece him and he complains again. Your biggest mistake was when you told him you’re going elsewhere for your dirt leaving equipment there. I would have pulled my equipment out first saying I have to put a hold on this job for emergency job. Then tell him when he asks when you’re going to be back
The thing is,he’s pulling a scam and being a scumbag..D.P. Didn’t want to go down that path..I admire his honesty and his ability to be honorable in a situation that was getting shady..Having good character says volumes about a guy... I’m sure D.P. Will find a good solution... Or maybe send MBTS to retrieve the gear lol...and that’s no joke... ( yes , joking)
I agree with you on the dirt. I am a small mowing, dirt and snow contractor with doing lawns gardens and snow . I have had that kind of person here with my small company in Alberta Canada. I love your old truck that your going to put a lift Axel on. Keep up the great videos you do.
I totally agree. I deal with construction contracts all the time and they have a bad rep. I remind people that a contract isn't a way to bludgeon someone into doing work they didn't see in the fine print, (or it shouldn't be). It should be a way to explain the expectations (scope) of work and actively minimize ambiguities. Even if it's an email or text, put it in writing, and get an OK reply. ANY change that effects the time or cost should also be documented, with both sides explicitly agreeing, even if it's a no-cost-change mod to the scope. If scope creep gets to be too much, it's easy to clearly show the previous collection of the nibbles. This usually will make it clear that the sum of the extra work will talk longer and/or cost more, and the one benefiting will usually readily agree, or scratch all the changes.
But let’s at least get something out in the open; if you shake a mans hand and look him in the eye...you better make damn sure you do exactly what you said you were gonna do. Someone who won’t honor a handshake is a coward.
I have quietly watched how you run your business on this media. I run my biz in a the same way. We try to over deliver & to keep the peace at almost any cost. But we have to draw the line somewhere. As long as we take the "high road" in every situation & we do it in a way where it is Glorifying God, then we can sleep at night and know that we did the right thing. God Bless you, your family & your team. Glenn Bell
Sorry man. I've had a couple of deals turn sour on me like that. Some people are determined they have to be a victim. Call the law and explain your situation. Have them standing by if crap goes sideways when you go get your Volvo. Offering to pay for the extra load you didn't get shows good faith. Keep your head up. Love the videos.
I could tell the way you were discussing his property and some of the extra concern for the area that you were dealing with, let’s say a “cantankerous”gentleman lol Good job being level headed!
Dealing with an old guy that can't make up his mind and if you know or suspicious that he would try to get more work out of you for nothing I would have a signed contract. The days of a handshake are over, it's just business and it protects you.
But there is a problem with contracts too im a steel guy I build metal buildings, houses, etc if it's made of steel I build it....I don't know how it is in other states but here in Oklahoma a contract is better for wiping your ass not saving it.....even with a contract if you put anything permanent on anyone's property it belongs to THEM whether they pay or not. I have always HATED down payments but im forced to collect a minimum of 1/3 down or I won't touch it...
You can’t please some people. He sounds like he just wanted to take advantage of you. And as far as him being “p”ed off because you are going somewhere else, he is the one who caused you to go somewhere else. Him being a jerk and accusing you of stealing....wtf did he think was gonna happen?! I think “ole blue” needs to see a doctor. Having issues gettin it up and all! 😁 Stay safe!
That's one of the hardest things about owning a business is your an honest man. You'll take it in the shorts before you'll screw someone over. And yet you get accused. It not only hurts but it eats at ya, you try to let it go but it's in back of your mind. Hang in there Mike. Your surrounded by bunch of great people who know the truth. And WE all know the truth. One best channels I've come across. 👍
You did right by walking away from that supplier. There as just certain people you can't deal with. Handshake deals I've found almost always come back to bite ya. Get that paper and signature.
I admire integrity. Its why after watching a few video's, I subscribed. I think you made the right call. I don't take someone calling me a thief or a liar! I would have walked too. As for the laugh, there will always be "that one" unfortunately. Now I'm going back to watch the beginning of this!😁
Been in commercial construction my whole life. In those 35+ years I still haven't figured out the whole ton vs. yard vs load thing. A ton of sand cost the same if it's wet or dry. Ton of engineered fill costs the same wet or dry. Actually wet dirt cost more since you need to spend money to dry it out. So if I'm buying dirt I'm thinking the best bang for my buck would be to buy in the summer. Enjoy your video's thanks!
I do heating and air for a living, occasionally you run into a person like this, who just doesn’t want to be happy, they look for the ways to be unhappy. If I get the feeling like that from someone I usually just leave.
Sounded like the guy didn’t want you lads “taking his precious dirt” from day 1. You did exactly as any decent Owner would do. Walk away with your head high👍.
I've been watching you for quite awhile now and I have never seen you be dishonest or anything like that... you handled it alot better then I would have .. some people are just like that they try to swindle everyone .. I had a customer that would complain every time someone went to his house to do anything for his pool even if we was just delivering pool chemicals.. so we would always just comp the bill and one day he got into a huge fight qith my boss saying I ripped his pool cover that was 30 years old and looked like a screen from a screen door .. so my boss looked up his file he had swindled my boss outa like 15000 for 6 years he was getting his chemicals free and his opening and closing and whatever else . my boss told him to find someone else finally ... and a year later the guy built a new house and begged my boss to build him a pool so he does and once the pool was built he started right back in with the bullshit .... his brother said that he purposely complains about everything to get discounts or free and at the end of the year calculate how much he ripped people off and brags about ..... lol
Nice to see a contractor care about the neighbours and address the impact they have on others day to day activities. Here I thought they really didn't give a shit about others, nice professional job site management well done guys! As for the dirt deal you are bang on, run fast and run far my friend. I'm amazed how people think its ok to sling personal insults like "you are a thief". The manner in which I was raised makes this a very serious accusation and strikes at the moral fabric of who I am as a person. Can't do business with someone after that.
I really enjoyed this video today thank you. PostScript. When you go pick up the Volvo make absolutely certain that you examine it very close before you Crank it up make absolutely certain your engine oil dipstick doesn't read a half gallon over check your hydraulic tank make sure it hasn't been tampered with look closely at the engine hydraulics hoses all accessories controls make sure everything is intact and looking good before you make any attempt to Crank it up it's better to be safe
Sounds like the seller is one of these people who wanted something for nothing & when he didn't get it he called "thief". It happens, let it run off your back Mike. 👍
From what I've seen, the people who are thieves always accuse others of stealing from them. They're afraid of retribution being a shark and making them bleed.
The only thing different that I do is get a scale ticket and not every time. say out of 30 loads ill get three tickets and do the average. Of course that all depends if you have a scale handy.
Don;t go alone or under dressed. People are just plum crazy on edge. As they say in the ring protect yourself at all times. I look forward to your channel it is an escape for me . Stay safe
I had the same thing happen to me on Walnut Logs. I was Logging 189 acres in Northwest Missouri and we marked every tree and we also removed the roots for Japan Business. And when we were done they said we removed twenty five more Trees than we delivered. Had it not been for a competitor who stood up for us we would have lost $47,000.00. The funny thing was we hired the Competitor to help us do the work and every Tree was registered on film.
I spent 19 years dealing with people like the neighbor..... My first 911 Karen call was construction related. Crew left mud in the road and she had to drive through it in her new JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE!
It is probably best to just walk away from the guy, sounds like he was trying getting a bigger better deal. Go back with officer Hoover and get your equipment.
I think you are very justified!!! Not only was the guy disrespectful and ungrateful, it sounds very much like he treated you like he had you over a barrel and tried to get as much extra out of you and your equipment as he could, with zero benefit to you because he was going or trying to go beyond the original agreement...taking advantage!!!!
My brother-in-law's business lost reputation when his painters were merely accused of leaving rags lay around causing a fire that destroyed a nearly completed nursing home. He has long since regained his reputation (painted the school in the same town a couple years ago and even made extra on the job for an added-on task).
Your in the right being a honest man i work the same way with my customers but as long as u have paper showing the loads just sit down and have a heart to heart but yea of course he be mad losing out on that extra money
Sounds like it was just your turn in the barrel on this gig Mike. Between the "do me a favor" guy, the truck with the 40 grit sandpaper bed liner and the neighborhood "Karen", your dance card got done filled up son. You should have sent a 55 gallon drum of "Crisco" to the driver of the blue truck for Christmas. That way he could grease up the bed in between loads. BTW, Aaron needs a raise and Kleeman needs to be rolled in bubble wrap. All you guys are great and it's a pleasure to see you all working together. Love your channel and slowly working my way through it!
The clay dirt where you are at must not be nearly as dense as the dirt here in Missouri. It is not a problem to get 15 tons or more on a tandem dump truck with dirt that looks like what you are hauling . Those loads would easily average over 15 tons per load with the dirt here.
Being a sub for a few years I can say this there is no reason on God's green earth that you should not loose one wink of sleep on this fiasco on his behalf..... your a good man that I would be happy to deal with ya on anything!!❤️👍
Mike....one thing I know is that you are a good Man. Period. Keep on truckin brotha. Keep on doing what you do. Keep healthy, take care of your family, and keep Dirt Perfect....love your channel....what you everyday.
I think you handled the situation very professional and I agree 100% with you. Some people you just can’t satisfy lol
Thanks
I also agree with you
I agree 💯 percent you handled professionally cut your loss and moved on
You definitely can't make some people happy you did your best to work all of it out
I also agree with you whole heartedly. That is trouble waiting to happen. Dirt perfect you are a very professional business man.
when you have a guy like that in your area, everyone needs to know. Word of mouth is the best payment for him.

It took all day for him to realize every log I cut other than pulpwood was still laying on the job.
Can't fix.....ya know 🤣🤣🤣

Absolutely should be based on yards not tons. You can measure the volume ov any truck. No scale required.

You are right, take the high road! I just tell them doesn't look like we can do business in a way to help both of us! I have learned to count to 10 and think about response.
Between the dirt pit and the neighbor sounds like a typical week in our industry. You handled a lot better than anyone else I’ve ever worked for
I recently got 100 loads of dirt for free from a subdivision.
If the guy is so concerned about weight, he should buy a scale.
I never trust a handshake anymore. Too many "forgetful" people. All of my future business dealings will be in writing.
I'll shake his hand after we've signed contracts.

I'd have asked her politely for the number of the local police, saying I was glad her neighborhood was so conscious of the traffic laws, ... and it was my duty to report the illegal and extremely unsafe conditions with the kids playing in the street.
yes it might have made this KAREN think just how bad her fences were where was she looking after the kids.
I think you are a prime example of trustworthiness and integrity. Congratulations on keeping a level head and walking away from the jerk!
Thanks
My family is in the excavating business and they run into an absolute jerk about every 15-20 jobs Not much you can do except swallow your pride and make the best of it. They usually loose money or barely break even when dealing with a jerk. My brother says if someone had slapped the taste out of their mouth when they were younger they wouldn't act that way. But an independent contractor must stand on their reputation so you have to do everything in your power to smooth things out. Great job on the peace keeping.
I love it "Why are the kids playing in the road, and who's babysitting them because I don't want my kids to go there" 🤣
I know right
Not that I know anything about your business but I do know people and you undoubtedly did the right thing Mr. HONEST Dirt Perfect. Kudos to you!
I agree , sometimes you just have to cut your losses , especially when being accused of being a thief . You keep doing what you do man 👍👍
"Misery loves company" You did the right thing .Never let them bring you down to there level.
He sounds like it was retaliation for not digging his free pond.
Yep. I think he was happy with the dirt sale but his friends told him he shoulda got you to dig him a pond as you were getting the dirt then he decided to be an ass after you told him it wasnt gonna work out that way.
Yup
if he wanted a hole dug he should have specified it.
He tried being too clever. If he’d been upfront about what he wanted from the start you probably would have done it.
Guy who lives on a lake needs a pond??? WHY????
The small farming community I grew up in they have a saying, “ it was worth it to get to know you “. Which meant they were a person you don’t want to do business with! I’ve watched enough of your videos to know you have integrity and ethics. Don’t worry about that penis with ears!

When someone threatens me with "I will call thepolice. " I offer to let them use my phone.
Exactly ! Or dial the # for them .
Then tell him when he asks when you’re going to be back
"Then you do still change do apiece him..."

Sounds like that guy doesn’t know good character when it’s right in front of him. Keep up the good hard work Dirt Perfect!
There is a reason for written contracts, get it in writing.

We try to over deliver & to keep the peace at almost any cost.
But we have to draw the line somewhere.

You have been more than fair with this guy. The way I see it he is trying to take advantage of you.
I could tell the way you were discussing his property and some of the extra concern for the area that you were dealing with, let’s say a “cantankerous”gentleman lol
Good job being level headed!
Dealing with an old guy that can't make up his mind and if you know or suspicious that he would try to get more work out of you for nothing I would have a signed contract. The days of a handshake are over, it's just business and it protects you.
Unfortunately you have to have contracts now
But there is a problem with contracts too im a steel guy I build metal buildings, houses, etc if it's made of steel I build it....I don't know how it is in other states but here in Oklahoma a contract is better for wiping your ass not saving it.....even with a contract if you put anything permanent on anyone's property it belongs to THEM whether they pay or not.

I've been watching you for quite awhile now and I have never seen you be dishonest or anything like that... you handled it alot better then I would have .. some people are just like that they try to swindle everyone .. The clay dirt where you are at must not be nearly as dense as the dirt here in Missouri. It is not a problem to get 15 tons or more on a tandem dump truck with dirt that looks like what you are hauling . Those loads would easily average over 15 tons per load with the dirt here.
I think it should have been a per load price. Since there’s no scale to weigh them to verify tonnage. And the guy sounds like a pain
