Been listening to Morbid Angel and Hate Eternal close to two decades and only now I realize that Rutan reminds me of a young Arnold Shwarzenegger ! Respect and cheers from Morocco
This dude is an absolute death metal legend. Saw him live ~12 years ago and he absolutely slayed the guitar. Super intense. Highly recommend for people to see him live!
Erik is one of the greats ever. What he is able to do live is unbelievable. Dude is a savage on stage. Thanks for the upload, man. I've just come across this channel
Erik is new into the active pickup family, He is "classic school" He favors old cabinets, those BC Rich pointy headstocks, passive pickups, I love his rig rundown, I would love to see more of his stuff in 2022
Passive pick ups are heavens above active ones. I realized it after few years of using active ones. Honestly now I think I would never choose active over passive ones now
Love Rutan! He’s such a nice guy. I got to meet him a couple years ago and he was more than happy to talk and sign a record for my friend. Not to mention he’s produced some of my favorite albums over the years.
Really cool guy! I was lucky enough to meet him in Melbourne when Hate Eternal toured Oz years ago. Really down to earth and chill dude and was happy to chat with the fans and answer questions.
Terrance Hobbs of Suffocation uses the Maxom 808 as well. Boss made some outstanding pedals in the 90’s that still hold up today. When I was playing out live in a Death Metal band in the 90’s through the early 2000’s I used a 1995 Boss ME-8 Guitar Multi Effects Processor. That was and still is such a great multi effects pedal. The distorted tone I created was absolutely killer as well as the cleans. Highly recommend it for anyone playing Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Grindcore, etc.
I have seen Erik few years back in Manchester. I had him face to face for whole show and got his guitar pick at the end. My baldy head is visible on YT during HE show. I love Hate Eternal and I love Erik as a guitarist and vocalist. Morbid Angel's Domination era with Erik was my favourite. I can not wait to see Hate Ethernal in UK once again. I asked Trey A. about Erik and future giggs. I did not hear anything special but I have to believe that some day they will come back to UK.
Eric's passion for metal is always evident. He's in a killer band and he's an awesome producer. And for us old-school metalheads, he's the guy that made Cannibal Corpse actually sound like Cannibal Corpse on studio recordings. He brought home that live Cannibal sound. He's a somewhat overlooked but highly important figure in the history of metal. And one of the best, if not the best, ambassador that extreme metal has ever had.
Awesome. Mega blessing to Master Erik Rutan. Long Live Hate Eternal. Hey Digital Bus, try doing videos with Malevolent Creation and Cannibal Corpse. 2 of my favorite death metal bands. Thanks as always for the videos. You rule.
Glad you liked this video! We have some videos with Cannibal Corpse from Mayhem a few years back, but they haven't been interested in filming any of our cool video series. We'll try to get Malevolent Creation next time they're in town though!
Awesome. As far as Cannibal Corpse not being interested, I guest they're just way too busy. Just hope that they didn't catch the rock star attitude bug. That's never something they've been known for.
Chuloloc I'm not sure why they turn us down. Metal is hit and miss. Some bands love doing cool interviews like this and others are more reserved/just want to play music. It's always up in the air.
Oh, this concerned future episode with Suffocation :) They, and Dying Fetus are known for using Ampeg VH 140cc. But funny thing is - Erik probably also used this amp on first Hate Eternal album.
I wish... I wish so badly that I could just be friends with this man, or hell I'd pay for the time! Just so he could show me his ways, this dude is a master of his craft, he fuckin loves metal and he puts in so much work. Much respect 🙏
Does that black guitar model even exist or is it a custom one, cause Ive been looking for hours online but theres not a single one with a reverse headstock, neck through and all black...
Yeah I have grown out of death metal for the most part, but Morbid Angel will always have a special place ion my heart, and Erik was a big part of that for me. Seeing the B.C. Rich Ironbird brought back some memories. I am def a fan of his production work though.
Nice to see a neck through Irobird . Used to own one many years ago , unfortunately it got stolen . Have never been able to replace the same American made neck through model . BC Rich Korea are inferior . But I have owned nothing but BC Rich guitars they are superior , or at least were before the bolt on neck models saturated the market . Erik Titan is the best guitar player in all of Death Metal . It's refreshing to finally read no irrelevant immature negativity in the comments . Titan is religiously a nice guy .

I saw this guy play with morbid angel on the pantera tour he was mentioning about 15 years ago. A fantastic player!
Such an awesome guitar player!

I'd love to see a Rutan Ironbird Signature guitar. That just feels like it would be bad ass.

Who can't love Erik Rutan? This guy has such passion.
He's great!
Exactly. You can tell he loves this shit, unlike few other bands for whom it's clearly a job, not passion
Simple but high end gear. He is one of my death metal guitar hero. His riff is aggressive technical and power and his solo full of passion.

suffocation
