Karl likes everything set up a little bit different than most people would, just the string gauges alone don’t come in a regular pack or anything so it’s probably at first a lot for a guitar tech to get used to, a lot of people use two heads now but he liked to put all the effects after they come through the amp not before like some effects are just automatically used before it runs through the amp, he’s a wrong though because you are using the full sound of heads it’s actually very innovative
Terrance is probably one of the few death metal legends whose still got it. Absolute inspiration and more guitarists should use him as an example of what to push yourselves to achieve
Most of the episodes of Gear Masters include string gauge. The only time when it isn't is if (a) the guy wasn't quite sure and didn't have an extra pack on his or (b) I forgot because we were so pressed for time since we don't usually have a lot of time to film these episodes.
I find that their albums are usually poorly mixed which is a damn shame. They're such a unique band and their music deserves to shine. Hopefully I can see them some day.
I've seen tens of death metal bands live, from world-famous to locals, and the majority of them have sounded really sloppy and undefined live. Only a couple of them have been world-class tight live (Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Skeletonwitch).
I have watched the majority of these episodes out of order but I am getting to all of them. It is amazing to me how selfless some of these artists are just getting up every day touring and making great music. They don't have to be on national radio or television to be at the forefront of bands. There is also consistency with gear like Ibanez, BC Rich, D'Addario, Ernie Ball, Maxon, Boss, Korg, ISP, Peavey, etc... which shows these companies continue to make great products.
I like their road gear setup. It's simple but killer. It's cool to see your favourite band knows everything about their gear in details. That's what I'm after - musicianship. Respect \m/
About Hobbs strings - finally someone playing somewhat light strings too! For my 7-string i play 56 - 09, being a standard 09 set with a 56 thrown in, but I have a somewhat longer scale length. Tuned to drop A, I really like the attack and grind you get out of loose strings. It's a matter of controlling it though.
Suffocation is still as hardcore as ever. THanks for the gear review, I watched every second, and I can tell you guys are geniuses with the equipment and sound. Great music, a staple of metal from the beginning.
josh jacobus Cannibal is great and definitely deserves to be at the top, but they fell off until Rob rejoined the band. There are many death bands that are way better now though.
Great interview! I saw this tour in Kansas City last May. Absolutely killer set! Had to leave right after their set to go see Hate Eternal on the other side of town. My neck was sore for a week after that night!
Nice fact : Terence stole my buddy’s beer at Legend Club Milano ... my buddy (Natas) said to him :”do you wanna some of this” he answered “Yeah man!” Then there was a massive rain and Terence ran with the beer into the van ... ahahahah great dude ! Suffocation are really down on earth guys !
Awesome. Killer video. Can't wait for the new album and despite Frank's situation, I totally hope he'll be part of the album. Much love for Suffocation. Thank you, Digital Bus. You rule. Also, thanks to Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles for posting the alert on their official page. Hails to them (if they're reading this) for all their years in bringing the metal. Hails to all.
there is no "top" only solid bassists. brutal death metal..difficult topic for bassists. a few coming to my mind Nils of Disavowed, John of Inveracity. Seen em both. Badass brutal fingering just like Derek. They only way to play the bass in such uncompromising music
I love their set up . Boyer has the best basses I've ever heard and seen . Of course that maybe partially due to the fact he's the best player in death metal .
Same tuning as hate eternal and me on complete accident, Terrance is probably one of the most approachable people I’ve ever met, he always talks to everyone about everything and he is always brutal
Logan Wilder I'd say he retired to move to South Carolina with his wife. I met them and I could kinda see it coming. I'm sure it ended on good terms though
Terrence is just fucking rad. His tone has been the heaviest fucking tone for 30+ years. Other bands have tried, but nobody does it quite like Mr. Hobbs and Suffocation.
It just goes to show you don't need a trendy 8 or 7 string guitar to be super heavy Terrence with his guitar and maxon pedal makes that 6150 sound amazing. Btw those super distortion pickups he's running are incredible . It's cool to see someone with great tone who isn't playing the old stand by emg 81s .
On these he uses the distortion of amp plus maxon pedal... right? Anyway, always I'm wondering these combinations, of distortions/effects and amps, it's common in metal to combine the amp disto+pedal disto?
Usually pedal with the volume all the way up and the amp gain dialed back, or the amp gain dimed out with the pedal volume dialed back, as Terrance does it. The pedal distortion is always all the way down.
Some guitarist that set their guitars as baritones will have 6 string with lowest being a 65 gauge . Don't ask me where they find um lol .... Unless their taking one out of a bass set . However I love the way Terrance sets his guitar up . The other guy is excellent as well .
Suffocation and Nile so far have some of the most interesting taste and knowledge in gear
🤘
WhoreTorture Also Deicide
I love all three of those bands suffocation deicide and Nile 🤘🏿
Karl likes everything set up a little bit different than most people would, just the string gauges alone don’t come in a regular pack or anything so it’s probably at first a lot for a guitar tech to get used to, a lot of people use two heads now but he liked to put all the effects after they come through the amp not before like some effects are just automatically used before it runs through the amp, he’s a wrong though because you are using the full sound of heads it’s actually very innovative
It really shows in their sound too.
Terrance is probably one of the few death metal legends whose still got it. Absolute inspiration and more guitarists should use him as an example of what to push yourselves to achieve
🤘
i love that terrance still sports the same rims he wore in high school haha
Terrance keeps it real!
Those have always killed me. I love 'em!
Billy Cobham glasses!
How he wears em lower shows his age. He looks at you above the lens and reads/focuses through them.
That bass guitar is totally badass!
Totally agree!
bl8ckout13 yeah but who is the luthier?
@@pillepalle3614 devils choice
Best in the business .
@@pillepalle3614 Devils Choice makes the best basses for death metal .

That bass is straight-up gear porn!
that bass is insane! love the fanned frets
Derrick is a great player and a great guy, he is extremely knowledgeable about all kinds of gear and is always willing to discuss it with you
Man I love suffo. Terrence is one of my fav guitarists. So cool to see this.
Really glad you liked the video!
Terrance Hobbs rules.
He sure does!
This episode really bangs
Really glad you liked it!!
Oh this is awesome. I love when all the info about the string gauge is given. Please do this more often!
Most of the episodes of Gear Masters include string gauge. The only time when it isn't is if (a) the guy wasn't quite sure and didn't have an extra pack on his or (b) I forgot because we were so pressed for time since we don't usually have a lot of time to film these episodes.
Saw them live, incredible sound for a band in this style of music.Just amazing how tight they play.
Definitely a great live band!
"for this style"?
I find that their albums are usually poorly mixed which is a damn shame. They're such a unique band and their music deserves to shine. Hopefully I can see them some day.
It's worth it. They destroy it live
I've seen tens of death metal bands live, from world-famous to locals, and the majority of them have sounded really sloppy and undefined live. Only a couple of them have been world-class tight live (Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, Skeletonwitch).

Thanks so much for the support for this series! So glad to hear you're getting a chance to watch the videos! :)
I like their road gear setup. It's simple but killer. It's cool to see your favourite band knows everything about their gear in details. That's what I'm after - musicianship. Respect \m/
I appreciate simplicity too. :)

I guess everyone has a different preference. I've heard some many different string gauges.
GurktheBrutal that’s why he rips. Always has. Djent dudes suck
This bass made my brain liquid.
Ditto.
It bangs
Carcass please!!!
We'll do our best, but it's ultimately up to them!
That bass was on another level
👌
Suffocation is still as hardcore as ever. THanks for the gear review, I watched every second, and I can tell you guys are geniuses with the equipment and sound. Great music, a staple of metal from the beginning.
Suffocation shows you the gear they use on tour!
Who should we film with next?
Digital Tour Bus job for a cowboy!
James Cook For Gear Masters? We'll try to next time we see them hit the road. Have you seen our Bus Invaders with them?
Digital Tour Bus i have not seen that, will definitely check it out!
James Cook Sweet!
Digital Tour Bus Vektor!
Their rig just so simple, but’ why their sound so good at live? I saw them live in 2016 and their sound so good and clear!
Thanks guys, awesome video. Terrance, Derek and Charlie kick serious ass on stage! Can't wait for the new album. Hail the mighty Suffocation!!! \m/
All hail Suffocation! :)
Digital Tour Bus suffocation is cool but it's all about cannibal corpse and SIX FEET UNDER
josh jacobus Haaaaaa haha!😂
josh jacobus Cannibal is great and definitely deserves to be at the top, but they fell off until Rob rejoined the band. There are many death bands that are way better now though.
josh jacobus 😴😴😴
The fanned frets are great because you can tune down with lighter strings which really helps with fast music
🤘
7:55 me when I explain my parents why I bought a third guitar this month
🤘
Derek Boyer is probably the best player in Death Metal and that's saying something.
🤘🤘
Talented guitar player and a humble guy. Nice equipment.
Definitely!
DeathMetalManiac1988 he is hard not to like
terrence hobbs is sooo sick!! such a bad ass guitar player.
Definitely!
I know man and he's such a technical riffer its hard as hell for me to learn his riffs by ear lol
Great interview! I saw this tour in Kansas City last May. Absolutely killer set! Had to leave right after their set to go see Hate Eternal on the other side of town. My neck was sore for a week after that night!
Haha! Sounds like a great night of metal!
In this video, they started this tour in San Antonio,Tx at the Korova. I was there, still have the shirt
Nice!
I love the simplicity of their rigs. Not a big setup just a few pedals. Sounds amazing live!
Couldn't agree more!
these guys are so genuine it feels good when u see your favorite bands being the sickest human beings as well
:)
Wow for me, Terrance is the best complex composer early 90s and today !!!!!!!! His the best !!!!!!
🤘
The bass, fuck, awesome, thanks for the vid
No biggie! Glad you liked it!
Hobbs is such a cool guy. Amazing band.
He sure is!

So glad you found the video helpful!
🤘
Graziano Ciccarelli amazing. They are basically the Sepultura of death metal. Beyond legendary.
Terrance is probably my favorite metal guitarist
He's great!

Thanks for watching the video! Brave Words always supports our stuff and we couldn't be more grateful! :)
Chuloloc I was lucky enough meet Frank, Guy, Terrance, Derek and Kevin in 2015
5:54
If there's anybody else that can top the solid *"bassmanship"* of CC's *Alex Webster,* then it's definitely none other than *Derek Boyer.*
there is no "top" only solid bassists. brutal death metal..difficult topic for bassists. a few coming to my mind Nils of Disavowed, John of Inveracity. Seen em both. Badass brutal fingering just like Derek. They only way to play the bass in such uncompromising music

😀
Suffocation the most brutal band in the world thank you
🤘
These guys are great . Such good ppl
100%
That Devils Choice...what an axe!!
:)
Same tuning as hate eternal and me on complete accident, Terrance is probably one of the most approachable people I’ve ever met, he always talks to everyone about everything and he is always brutal
Hobbs!....thanks lads.
Im sure everyones asked already but... Where is Guy?! lol You can totally hear Terrence's New Yahk accent.
According to their Wikipedia, he's no longer in the band.
Logan Wilder I'd say he retired to move to South Carolina with his wife. I met them and I could kinda see it coming. I'm sure it ended on good terms though
Guy could use some help. Give if you can. www.gofundme.com/fighting-for-guy?viewupdates=1&rcid=r01-152271036155-3a15652a764449d1&
Such a good and friendly guys! One of the best metal bands ever!
🤘
Underrated bass player! This guy is a beast!!!!!!
Fucking Metal GODS! No one compares!!!!

I don't know what it does but that's what it's built to do.
- Derek Boyer
😅
great content, thoroughly enjoyed!
So glad you liked it!!
That bass is fucking amazing!
This dude is Gold. Beast OG tone
:)
That bass is a fucking beast! Damn!
It sure is!
Terrence is just fucking rad. His tone has been the heaviest fucking tone for 30+ years. Other bands have tried, but nobody does it quite like Mr. Hobbs and Suffocation.
Love these guys, they keep It real.
I didn’t expect it: 0.10 tuned C# must feel extremely floppy.. 1:45
I’d like to try it out
Anybody already tried it?
This video bangs man
Glad you liked it!
that bass.... instant nut
Yup!
That was cool.
Glad you liked it!
That Maxon pedal is cool 18volt reminds me of old dod pedal without a switch.
Wow, think those guys use pretty light Strings for C sharp Tuning,, anyway who cares with such a crushing Live Tone -)
:)
. . . And it really bangs. This should be the next metal meme.
🤘
the thinner strings are aggressive in a different way
Morbid Angel soon please??
We've tired. It's up to them, not us unfortunately.
no probs!
yes...\\m//
Yes
Digital Tour Bus lmao. Everybody should know their gear already. Like Yngwie
Jesus! That was like an infomercial.
In what way? Because they were mentioning the brands and models of gear they use? That's the entire point of the series.
Seeing them on wednesday, really excited
10:11 *I liek dat chunkier neck*
Thanks for watching.
fuckin love this group ever since 93...Terrance is a Master Guitar player to......\\m// \\m//

Charlie sounds like he is 12 years old!
No bullshit. Just pure brootality.

🤘
Looks like the bassist was on his way to having a good time that night X')
Thanks for watching.
How can one not know what his instruments does? :D Like "fanned frets does something, tonality stuff yeah" IT'S STRING TENSION WHAT IT DOES!!!
Chill out a bit dude it ain't that serious
Hell yes killer gear, Peavey all the way
Definitely killer gear!
Been using Peavey since 1998
Gear of Fu Manchu or C.O.C would kick ass.
We'll try our best! Ultimately, it's up to the bands.
On these he uses the distortion of amp plus maxon pedal... right? Anyway, always I'm wondering these combinations, of distortions/effects and amps, it's common in metal to combine the amp disto+pedal disto?

which pickup is using terrance the dimarzio dp100 or dp100f?
I'm not sure, sorry!
Master Terrance!
Awesome dudes awesome gear
Couldn't agree more! 🤘

Fan threats? I was calling them nuclear frets 😂
Thanks for watching.
