I remember see Nile open up for Morbid Angel almost 20 years ago.
Karl was playing a white...Fender Stratocaster.
I had never seen anybody ever play death metal on a Strat befor that show.
I saw Nile again on the Ithyphallic tour. Karl stayed after the show to sign autographs.
I handed him my CD to sign and the only thing i could think to say to him was, "Hey Karl, where's the Strat" his reply was, "umm..its at home man". lol.
    super nice guy.

    • @Stitsel
      @Stitsel 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I love seeing brutal metal played on a Strat, kinda disproves the notion it can't be done....Nile, Marduk etc. ...lots of old school hard rock/heavy metal guys played 'em: Blackmore, Uli, Dave Murray, Tipton/KK, Malmsteen etc. so a Strat definitely has it's place in metal.I too saw that same tour, late 90s I believe? I bought Karl a beer at the bar in between sets at the club they were playing in Seattle....super nice guy & funny too

Talked to him after a show when he still used a JCM 800 we chatted about tone and gear tricks which was mostly just tuning to A and using the Seymour Duncan Invader pickup in the bridge with Big Stubby picks. In my experience those picks have a very light and smooth glide on the strings and you have to change all your settings to accommodate them especially compared to the super loud, bassy and upper-mid grind of Tortex picks.

Saw them in Gallup NM in maybe 2010. It was a one off show with Immolation, Krysiun and a couple others. The dudes in Immolation and Nile were so fucking cool (really everyone in every band I met was cool). Their tour busses parked side by side was bigger than the venue. There were probably less than 100 people at the show. There was no stage riser. Gallup has maybe 50,000 people in it. They could have played the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque, but no they played this tiny venue in the middle of nowhere NM. And for that all those band will forever be in my heart.
The crowd was amazing with full families showing up. I spoke with one of the Immolation guitarists and he stated that playing a show like that with such close interaction with the crowd who are 110% into it is far more rewarding and fun than playing at a festival in front of thousands of people.
And to all the Navajo and Zuni folks I met that night a big fucking Cheers from Sacramento, CA

The new Nile album... yes we heard it's going to be fabulous... we are looking into it and making sure but we heard it's a great one... one of the best Nile albums ever so I've heard... fucking insanely fabulous...

I remember seeing them play in Florida like 10 or 12 years ago and some drunk dude kept touching his pedalboard. Eventually Karl punched the dude, which was nuts because he's such a gentle man

Karl has black belts in martial arts from what I heard. He could destroy anybody. There's a funny video of a Russian a-hole harassing him and Helmuth from Belphegor. KArl was just like "It's not gonna happen, dude." As they calmly got in their van. Karl could have destroyed that dude .. but had complete emotional control with that Orthodox Fundamentalist Cossack (who quite large himself).

I don't use a volume pot. If you don't already know this you still need the resistance. I put a few resistors in series before the Jack. You can experiment with different K ohms.

I knew this was at the Concord just by the thumbnail! :D Was at this show! Nile doing a gear rundown in Chicago, nice! Had a chat with Karl afterwards. EDIT: As a HUGE Nile fan & HUGE history nerd, I WANT a copy of one of those album cover flying V's!!! So Dean decides to release a Sander's custom, and it's got a plain black finish?! Ugh.

What a legend Karl is, and an absolute beast of a guitar player. Nile just kills it every album and live show.
Those scolloped frets are pretty nuts, didn't realised he used that.
Wonder if he has tried, or what he thinks of multiscale fretboards?

I remember Karl writing ages ago that his action is way up there (for the sake of tone) and no kidding (from seeing the side shot). Big respect to such - So easy to just make an instrument easy to play and sacrifice some of the tone as opposed to this...
