I remember see Nile open up for Morbid Angel almost 20 years ago. Karl was playing a white...Fender Stratocaster. I had never seen anybody ever play death metal on a Strat befor that show. I saw Nile again on the Ithyphallic tour. Karl stayed after the show to sign autographs. I handed him my CD to sign and the only thing i could think to say to him was, "Hey Karl, where's the Strat" his reply was, "umm..its at home man". lol. super nice guy.
I love seeing brutal metal played on a Strat, kinda disproves the notion it can't be done....Nile, Marduk etc. ...lots of old school hard rock/heavy metal guys played 'em: Blackmore, Uli, Dave Murray, Tipton/KK, Malmsteen etc. so a Strat definitely has it's place in metal.I too saw that same tour, late 90s I believe? I bought Karl a beer at the bar in between sets at the club they were playing in Seattle....super nice guy & funny too

I remember meeting him after a concert in Bari, Italy. I was wearing a Nila shirt and i suddenly hear "Hey dude, nice shirt!" It was him, he really appreciated the design and showed him to some merch guy. Class A musician and person.
Dude seems really super nice. I love that about death metal, such brutal, angry, venomous music, but most of the dudes playing it are super down to earth, nice people.

I've been listening to Nile for about 20 years and only understand 10% of what he said. But isn't he a lovely, humble person? A very talented artist and yet so humble. I love this and also the background noise in this video. You get to know the band a little better❤

Karl seems to be an awesome dude and knows his gear. Other bands only the techs know the gear but Karl knows his stuff well. Nike is the ultimate in brutal metal
Talked to him after a show when he still used a JCM 800 we chatted about tone and gear tricks which was mostly just tuning to A and using the Seymour Duncan Invader pickup in the bridge with Big Stubby picks. In my experience those picks have a very light and smooth glide on the strings and you have to change all your settings to accommodate them especially compared to the super loud, bassy and upper-mid grind of Tortex picks.
Saw them in Gallup NM in maybe 2010. It was a one off show with Immolation, Krysiun and a couple others. The dudes in Immolation and Nile were so fucking cool (really everyone in every band I met was cool). Their tour busses parked side by side was bigger than the venue. There were probably less than 100 people at the show. There was no stage riser. Gallup has maybe 50,000 people in it. They could have played the Sunshine Theater in Albuquerque, but no they played this tiny venue in the middle of nowhere NM. And for that all those band will forever be in my heart. The crowd was amazing with full families showing up. I spoke with one of the Immolation guitarists and he stated that playing a show like that with such close interaction with the crowd who are 110% into it is far more rewarding and fun than playing at a festival in front of thousands of people. And to all the Navajo and Zuni folks I met that night a big fucking Cheers from Sacramento, CA

Like the idea of cutting out the knobs. I've taken to just cutting out the tone knob. My new luthier of choice .. agreed with this .. she was like "I'l make that knob a coil splitter" ... brilliant lady who knows her shit.

KArl was just like "It's not gonna happen, dude." As they calmly got in their van. Karl could have destroyed that dude .. but had complete emotional control with that Orthodox Fundamentalist Cossack (who quite large himself).
I don't use a volume pot. If you don't already know this you still need the resistance. I put a few resistors in series before the Jack. You can experiment with different K ohms.

I remember Karl writing ages ago that his action is way up there (for the sake of tone) and no kidding (from seeing the side shot). Big respect to such - So easy to just make an instrument easy to play and sacrifice some of the tone as opposed to this...

I remember Karl writing ages ago that his action is way up there (for the sake of tone) and no kidding (from seeing the side shot). Big respect to such - So easy to just make an instrument easy to play and sacrifice some of the tone as opposed to this...
