    I just went to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Saturday 7-15-17 and hadn't been out to see the Sprint Cars for quite a while so it was quite remarkable when I saw the number 4 car win the main race and out pops this 15 year old kid behind the steering wheel. I couldn't believe it as when I was watching this car zip around the track all I thought this guy was one fast driver that didn't make mistakes. Now I'm no pro at spotting talent, but that night I saw one driver that was dominating and it happened to be # 4 Buddy and from my view point in the stands he was kicking butt.I made my way to the infield after the race and as the crowd came to take pictures with him his demeanor was that of a very humble and polite person which is certainly a gift to hold on to and hope he does throughout his career.If I was a major sponsor I would be closely watching this kid as he surely will be a name you will see on your TV screen in the future if he continues driving. If his dream is to be in NASCAR I would cast my vote as a big yes!!Great job out there Buddy and I wish you continued success.

    I saw the kid in January 2015 at the cocapo or however you pronounce it at Yuma, Az. It is really hard to forecast how good someone will be. Everyone peaks at some point in their life. He looked good but he was nowhere close to winning. Personally, I think anyone that would put their kid in a sprint car at 9 years old is just trying to live through their kid. At 9 years old, he has plenty of time to get into serious racing. When I was 9, I remember it was hard for me to deal with my grandfather's death. At 12, my parents got divorced and it was horrific. There are too many life and death situations that we have to deal with in our formative years to put any 9 year old into the adult world of sprint car racing. Several years ago, there was a kid named Trey Robb in Oklahoma City that started racing at 12. He was going to be great, but things happened and he is out of racing. About 20 years ago, there was a 14 year old named nick smith that made the A in a WoO show at Tulsa, He ended up getting married to Gary Wright's daughter and I think he is out of racing. There is so much that happens in life that kids should experience that I, personally don't think we should rush them. I don't think that what you do that early is really that important in racing. I was in Florida when Sport Allen and Jeff Gordon started their racing career, but it was several years later and major championships before Jeff got Rick Hendrick's attention. Kyle Larson is the exception and not the rule. He has won in everything since he started. He also won National championships in karts before he went to sprints and he was 14 then. There are micro's, mini sprints, and other things kids can race and win in. He would be better of winning in them than local sprints because other than WoO, ASCS National, USAC, and The USAC/CRA sprints none get national attention. What if he burns out? Oh, one more to talk about is Tyler Walker. Enough said. Check out his life from early teens on.

      C moore yeah but then Ya also gotta look at Gordon and Stewart also.how young were they when they started running midgets and sprints and then to usac.to run against Sleepy Trip,or Rich Vogler.I know Danica Patrick,aj alemendinger,Jamie mcmurray and a few others hit a road coarse go kart track in Iowa when they were still in their teens.You talk about Larson and I had the great chance to sit and talk with one if his midget car owners.Blackwell motorsports.had a great time and he'd been involved in racing for probably over 60 yrs.awesome talk with he and his wife

      Jeff rran his first sprint car race right before he turned 13 in Florida. I saw his first race and he actually wasn't that impressive. He didn't look especially good or bad. That is unusual because in a really young driver, they are usually way over their head or ridiculously slow. He was just like anyone else regardless of their age. If I remember correctly, he was about the slowest car. The race was with the all star circuit of champions and is probably somewhere on youtube. I am not sure about Tony, but I am pretty sure he was 16. The difference was jeff's stepfather had moved from california just so he could race. Nobody else would let him, except indiana. I live in Tulsa and have for the last 40 years. Jamie's dad used to race in the KC area for years and in 1985, he and jamie used to come to tulsa on friday nights and run a track in sapulpa called creek county speedway, in karts. The track was and still is owned by emmett hahn, founder of ASCS and the chili bowl. The point I like to make is that it doesn't really matter when you start. Steve kinser never sat in a race car until he was 21 and the best of his era, jan opperman was almost 25. I will stand by what I said, kids under a certain age don't have the emotional maturity to compete against adults. There are exceptions but very few can do it. I am a big larson fan but the truth is that every car he has ever driven from the time he got into sprints was capable of winning. That is highly unusual. Most guys starting out have less than great equipment with less than great cars. In this bull shit world we live in where the news media is only trying to get emotional responses out of people to get them outraged we can't afford to have kids that aren't old enough to have a drivers lisence getting killed or hurt badly. When i was a kid, i was as mature as the next but i still couldn't handle adult issues. When you throw them into an adult world, you force that on them. I say let them be a kid for a few years. Watching this kid race the only thing he lacks is maturity. If you watch him, he makes the same mistakes over and over again. With maturity, that won't happen.

      @deannederhoff 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      True but with time there would be the maturity and the experience laso.that track you said in sapulpa I thought you were gonna say was owned by John Christner lol.I drove truck for jtc a few yrs back lol

      you are crazy, nascar is not dying, every form of motorsports has its highs and lows. dirt never has been big and never will be!! nascar left it many years ago and indy car, scca, impsa and F-i never will.
