There is a balance between self care and caring for others. If you swing to either extreme, it is problematic. If you are only focused on self-care, then you are selfish. If you only care for others, then you burn out. Pastor Craig clearly takes care of himself. He works out. He eats healthy. He gets enough sleep. Those are all self care measures and it is not selfish.
But where is the Christian preach about self care to balance it out? Like you said there are the other extremes where you are burnout. Dying to self and denying self I understand but self care the right way not the worldly way where is it? Church is very good at telling us what we are doing wrong but where is the how to do it right?
Hate to break it to you but the Bible clearly states that our God gave us freedom to go down any path we may choose, often times straying from the right path to gain experience, learn valuable life lessons, and to possibly and hopefully bring those we met to God.
This is true, but it's even better if we don't stray off God's path to begin with. It saves us a lot of pain and heartache. Unfortunately, we (and definitely including myself!) tend to be stubborn and have to learn things the hard way. -- Jenni
Wow I was just talking to a friend about this. He had been deeply hurt by some Christian’s. He spoke of us looking at others but not looking at ourselves. I saw the hurt in his eyes I could not argue I quickly apologized and asked his forgiveness.

Craig was preaching, I found myself curious about how to establish boundaries while still prioritizing others, especially since we all have our own needs to consider. I love it when my husband puts me first. Sadly, it doesn’t happen very often. We can be out in public and if we’re on a narrow trail. He will literally push me out of the way so a stranger can pass. I wish I was kidding, but I’m not. He always seems to try harder to impress strangers than he does to protect and care for his own wife.
You seem selfish. Honestly, you hear this sermon and it makes you think of someone else on how they don’t put you first? Wow. Marriage is reciprocated. Maybe ask God to reveal how you can serve your husband and put him first,even if you think he doesn’t deserve it.

I think that it's extremely important to defirinciate between self care and selfishness. It's not an issue of loving ourselves too much or too little, but instead, it's a matter of loving ourselves in the correct ways and with the correct perspective of self care. self indulging and doing what we want is not loving ourselves. Paying attention to our body, mind, and spirit and tending to them is. I believe that is honoring God's property and how He can use us best.
I feel like this is the easiest way Satan weaves into my daily life. I have battled depression since I was a young girl, and I am 54 now, still miserable and trying to find who I am as a joyful person. This message hit so hard. I don't know where I go after hearing this, honestly.

Financially: Budget so I can be more giving with resources...if I spend on myself I wont have enuff to then give...to causes, to those in need, to the church, to mission.
God, I lift up this marriage. I ask that you help them both have the heart and eyes to see each other through your eyes. I pray that you work in them both, giving them a willingness to forgive and seek reconciliation. God, I ask for patience as they navigate how you will work in this marriage and choose to put you first. Protect both of them from ungodly influences that strain their marriage and their trust. God, I lift up this marriage. I ask that you help them both have the heart and eyes to see each other through your eyes. I pray that you work in them both, giving them a willingness to forgive and seek reconciliation. God, I ask for patience as they navigate how you will work in this marriage and choose to put you first. Protect both of them from ungodly influences that strain their marriage and their trust. Work in and through them to bless each other in this difficult time. In your name, Amen.

Dear Father God, I lift up Stephanie to You. You see her and see that she is drawing towards You, she is growing in her faith. I pray that You lead her to where You would have her be at this time, guide and direct her down the path You are calling her to. Allow her to find a home of faith where she can continue to grow in her relationship and love for You, where she can flourish. If this mean leaving the Catholic Church I pray that You grant her wisdom of how to express this to her family. Soften their hearts to be open to this change in her life and allow this situation to be to positive and draw each person involved closer to You. I praise You that You are speaking to her, You are granting the tools for her to grow more in her relationship and knowledge of You, Amen.
