My uncle was a canoe champion and he always described good paddling as "digging potatoes". It's all in the core, not in the shoulders and back. Arms almost locked, body bending forward to drive each stroke. No pulling the paddle to your chest! Total weenie technique. SUP paddling is obviously different, and what is described in this video is spot on advice.
This is probably a stupid question, but I've always wanted to surf, would anyone recommend starting on a paddle board and then going onto a minimal surfboard when I get better. Thanx
No it doesn't translate at all. I have shortboarded my whole life and only recently got in to flat water paddling. I can do 15 mile paddle trips without getting tired. Tried surfing on a decent swell and was to weak to catch waves. To be able to surf at a decent level you have to surf all the time. Sup strength does not translate at all.

Who was your uncle? I have competed some myself and IMO there are overlaps between canoe & paddle board strokes.
Found your video interesting to watch. I can't wait to see your next post. Good luck with the upcoming update.
Very helpful tips for SUP.Thanks.
Really good advice! Great video dude 👌🏽
Thanks. I like the scene where u were on point on the beach like you were getting ready to rip out of the gate for a race.

Ok good work
I love SUP, I have to adapt sports techniques to adjust to back limitations, any recommendations on paddling for it.
You move that board around like it’s nothing. I can only hope to be 25% as good
