    Thank you for this well done video, I took one look at where my battery was and immediately thought seriously - what in the heck were the designers thinking???
    But you made it seem a lot easier than it really is!

    I have a similar problem on the z246 and it wont start. It does not crank like yours in this video. I made sure the handles are in park. Is there a way to test the safety switch or bypass safety switches? Is there a way to jumper it? It ran fine last fall. I did not charge over winter but reads 12.65 volts and i jumped with another new battery at 12.4 volts and still nothing and i replaced the solenoid too. No clue what else. So saw z246 that has a relay but cantfind one and 20 amp fuse is good and conductive. How to test the solenoid when taken out

      Same situation here. Ran great last year. Parked it. Removed battery. Installed battery thus spring. No crank, no start. Can hear solenoid engage, battery at 12.6 volts. Thinking it may be a saftey switch because last year I had do jam the left handle to the left to get it to start.

    Finally a video with the same issues. I knew mine wasn't a battery issue though. Mine is with this parking brake sensor. I really hate this design that they have come up with. Wonder what engineer decided on this way? Anyway, I thought that I had the situation figured out. After replacing the start switch and nothing happened, I thought about maybe the handles were not at their full length. I used some contact cleaner since this tractor has been sitting outside for who knows how many years. The tractor was finally running for two days and then went back to the silent solenoid treatment...so very aggravating. Have you got a video on any other areas of this tractor?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not at this time. You will need to start diagnosing it with a test light. Check your fuse and make sure voltage is running through it. Check to make sure the safety switches are actually working. If the machine sits outside? Not good at all. Anything electrical can and as you are finding out will go wrong. If you figure it out please let me know. I am always curious.

    Thanks a lot for your efforts and help in your video!! Where you turned the key and made that noise, mine had a similar noise but was more like thunk thunk thunk thunk thunk with each turn of the key, it would "thunk" once but with every turn. Then you showed where that noise was coming from, the starter solenoid. Similar to the ones on the "early to late 70's model ford" vehicles. You can take a screwdriver shaft and cross between the terminals to turn the motor. Found my issue from your video. I have a bad starter solenoid switch. Would have kept on looking for the problem if it had not've been for your vid. Thanks so very much for your dedication to what you like to do!! Great video but unfortunately I am dealing with a Z254f when you turn the key to start all i get is a single click. I have replaced and charged the battery and thinking this is either a safety switch or solenoid that is the problem. What are your thoughts on this?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Normally if it is a safety switch you will get nothing when you turn the key, It may be starter solenoid but first make sure the oil level is Ok? I hope the engine rotates by hand. It is a little hard to perform that task on your engine but you can use a wrench and turn the engine PTO bolt just to confirm the engine rotates. If the engine rotates then watch this video and it may help you diagnose a bad starter solenoid. th-cam.com/video/5iUmazojh_Q/w-d-xo.html

At this point I do not have any more information. I need one to come into the shop with your issue. I do know if you do not bring the handles in at the same time the machine will shut down. Is this a common issue with this mower? I have identical symptoms as in the video even the low number of hours. I dealt with this all summer last year, will cut about every two weeks and had to jump the battery every single time. I feel like there's an electrical issue causing a constant drain that would continue happening if i replaced battery as 30 hours on a battery is extremely low. So this is indeed only a bad battery causing the issues in the video???

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only common problem with this mower and with many machines not just this mower is that the batteries they sell you when the machine is brand new are in my opinion, very cheap, as in quality,price and in amperage. Those batteries do not hold up very long. You need to install a better battery. Make sure the connections are very tight as explained in this video and then check the charging system after installation to make sure that you’re charging system is working correctly. If all of that is OK after you install a new good battery, not a cheap one. I would suggest a300 cold cranking amps or more with this particular engine. If all that is performed, this should take care of your problem. If you’re charging system is OK. Also, if you’re going to have long periods of time where your machine is not going to be run, I would suggest to trickle charge the battery every 3 to 4 months if the machine is not in use during those months. That will keep the battery topped off (fully charged). Note** jumping a dead battery than three times to total dead, then I would always get rid of it and buy a new one. Batteries don’t keep coming back and that is very taxing on the charging system of the machine. As stated in the video, I hope you get it straightened out and you’ll be good to go!

    What could you do if the clip breaks on the seat switch?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว

      If it is the plug that goes to the seat switch Technically you can replace the plug. I have used a zip tie to keep the two together. If the part broken is on the seat switch itself, you will need to replace it to correctly repair. Most of the time it is the connector to the switch that breaks.

      @@JohnsonsSmallEngines thank you for the response. On the service manual, I only see harness wiring, and not individual plugs. How would I go about getting a replacement plug? Do you have a website you use for replacement Husqvarna parts?

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines

      I use many websites. My go to is Sears Parts Direct. You can look up Husqvarna parts on the website. Here is a link. www.searspartsdirect.com/. If you cannot find the individual connector you may need to purchase the entire harness or try and cut one from a junk tractor and solder one in. Your local lawn mower shop may be able to help depending on how friendly they are. Zip tying does work if properly done.

    I've got that mower. I kinda regret the purchase. Maxes at 6mph, super finicky electronics (the ignition switch solenoid needs a "thump" on the side every now and then before it will work).
    Anyway, The Noco Boost Plus GB40 has worked great for jump starting this mower, my tractor, my motorcycles, and even my wife's car. No big diesel truck to test on, but it's super light and lasts for about 5 jumps on the lawn mower before it needs to be charged.
