I’ve got starting issues with my Kubota z125s at the moment. Didn’t have a clue what a solenoid was thanks, to this great video it has given me another avenue to explore why it’s not going . Thankyou
I looked at the two reviews below and must agree. This is really the perfect way to diagnose a safety switch issue and if not that then a starter solenoid problem. This should be a very strait forward and simple diagnostic, but you are apparently the only person on Earth who can explain it easily. You have saved me an enormous headache.
This is the best lil tutorial video on youtube! To the point, great explanations, good camera angles and easy to understand. This is how all of them should be done! Thank you
@@avarageerod welcome. My husqvarna has 2 side posts on the solenoid. Any idea what those 2 would be for? One for sending power after making the safety switches and the other maybe for????
Thanks for such a clear explanation with visuals. My Dad would normally handle stuff like this but he passed away. And my brother is deployed. I can at least get the mower into the shop now and try and replace the solenoid! THANK YOU!
How to eliminate the safety features right away as being a potential cause was the best time saving method of all the videos I viewed covering starting problem, thanks
Thanks for the excellent video on starter not cranking. I wasted a lot of time watching other videos that started at the battery and then went on to check every single thing that led up (finally) to the solenoid. Your approach was 100% better, cut to the chase and the tip on how to check all the other safety switches by going right to the solenoid was right on. Thanks again.
I'm a woman thats very handy but lack in fixing motors, carbs n such. I was mowing, stopped and turned it off for 10 mim and when I tried to start it, absolutely nada. No clicking, no noise just dead. Battery was fine but when I did your test I had absolutely no light come on on my meter anywhere on the solenoid. Thank you for making a detailed video, you helped me figure it out so I didn't have to borrow a trailer and wait 2 weeks!
Thanks for the video and info. I skipped all the safety feature checks and tapped on the solenoid right away. Seemed like the most likely suspect for sure. After a few good knocks it started right up. So now I get to find one and replace it as well. Thanks again for posting!
Great video, quick and to the point with no BS'ing around! Was trying to figure out how to check mine. Mower was starteing then not starting, but more of not starting. Schematics led me to there. After cycling it a few times as you did and checked continuety. It seemed to loosen up and starts everytime now but time to order anotherone cuz it will go bad again soon. BIG THANKS!
Thank you very much Got to the point where I had to bounce around in the seat 75% of the time to get starter to turn over. When cold it was a serious hassle Be safe
I have a MZT52 that just hit 200hrs. Got the Briggs Endurance motor. It’s been an excellent mower. Thus far only oil changes, air filters, lube, and blades. Getting ready to service the hydraulic system. I have had to tinker on the e brake safety switch a couple of times. It likes to get out of whack.
GREAT . Thanks. I have the Cub Cadet with Kohler KT725. Battery fine, lights come on, no click at all. Worked perfectly 2 weeks ago. I find the starter, can't see the solenoid. You gave me hope though. And you got one at napa?! I can't stand hunting for one and it's a China bomb. Good video..
I think I have the same mower with the same problem. If I shut it off after it's been running, then half the time it doesn't want to do anyting when I try to start even if all the safety switches are set right. I'll get my multi-tester out and see. Thanks for the head start!
if you do not have a test light try this with brake pedal down and blades not engaged and setting in seat turn key to start if it clicks only ------then short between two big lugs on solenoid useing a screw driver or pliers if that spins starter replace solenoid with same type takes about 2 min. to do this test.
Quick question. Does it matter which side the same terminal is? As in does it have to be on the battery side or it doesn’t matter if it’s on the starter side?
Ive done troubleshooting but have this problem. Bad Boy 52 magnum with Kohler Mower stopped when seat sensor activated. The key does nothing, but the blade button still activates via click sound I got it started to get it in the garage by bypassing seat switch and jumping solenoid it would only start doing both. only turned over without seat bypass. The safety screw on solenoid doesnt light even with seat bypass connected. key continues to not even click, though if you bypass seat and jump solenoid, it runs perfectly.
sounds like need new seat sensor and the the solenoid. thats what hes saying that if one the sensors is messed up it wont allow the mower to crank normal
@@803dj5 turned out to be the cable that attaches the brake lever. I kept testing everything good, but luckily noticed it was broken using a mirror. Thanks for the reply.
So it would be safe to say that I have a bad Solenoid and a bad starter since when I jump the solenoid, nothing happens. Would that assumption be correct?
Gotta question on this I have power going in but nothing else not even at that little wire or to the stater nothing so wold this siloned be bad or? I'm at los and there is nothing at the fuses no power but I do have power going in but no where else so my question is is my siloned bad or can tell me any advice? Please thank you
It does not sound like the solenoid since you arent getting anything to the little wire. Sounds like a blown fuse. You might want to check for power at the key switch
First off: GREAT video. Thanks for that. Second: what brand is that tester? That thing is awesome! Lastly: your son shouldn’t have any excuses in life, much less not to cut the grass. With a teacher like you, he could rule the world. Now I’m gonna go test my starter solenoid. 😊
Thanks for the compliments. The tester is an off the shelf unit from an auto parts store. Any store that sells fuses will have the tester. As for my son, like most kids, he doesn't think his parents know anything 😒
What else could it be if you change out the Starter syllonoid Pardon my spell check, and the Ignition switch and it won't start you have to jump it off The fuses in the fuse Box seemed to be OK
No sir I'm jumping it off at the starter cellular which was brand new and the switch is brand new starters switch or Ignition switch my bad I hate bypassing cause like you said safety
I'd pull the small wire from solenoid and test it. Once you pull the wire use a volt meter or test light and you should have 12v when you turn the key to the start position. If you dont your not getting power from the key switch. You can test the solenoid in the same way by running a wire from the hot side of the battery and touching the solenoid where the small wire goes.

@@avarageerod welcome. My husqvarna has 2 side posts on the solenoid. Any idea what those 2 would be for? One for sending power after making the safety switches and the other maybe for????
Without seeing it, I would think one is for sending power after making all of the safeties, and the other post might be a ground
Your video sure helped this old lady fix her mower! Ty

I think I was about 8 years old when my dad taught me how to bypass a solenoid on a ‘77 F100 with just a pair of pliers.

C-LEAN explanation!!!
How did you bypass the seat safety
if you do not have a test light try this with brake pedal down and blades not engaged and setting in seat turn key to start if it clicks only ------then short between two big lugs on solenoid useing a screw driver or pliers if that spins starter replace solenoid with same type takes about 2 min. to do this test.

Great video. So I’m not getting a light on the 2nd post, so assuming I have a bad safety switch. You have videos on how to test the safety switches?
Got a good chuckle @ 5:52
Thanks
How did you bypass seat safety
I didn't. On this mower, you do not have to be seated to start, just to engage the blades
Awesome good to know.
Thanks. Very helpful
My key won't even turn for first spring mow. It won't turn at all. Any ideas?
Perfect video!! 👍
So do you put the test light on negative side of battery. If its has a red clip on it
The alligator clip will go on the negative side of the battery
Quick question. Does it matter which side the same terminal is? As in does it have to be on the battery side or it doesn’t matter if it’s on the starter side?
If I understand the question, it shouldn't matter since it is just completing the circuit
So my mower only makes the sound at 6:39 minute .. what could be the issue?
Mine won't turn but just making a wierd chattering sound, any ideas?
For educational purposes, do you have to unhook the starter wire on the solenoid?
You do not have to, but be careful since it could start when you aren't expecting it to work
@@avarageerodSo my test light only lights up when I unhook the starter wire. When its hooked on no light... Why?
Does anybidy know what kind and size of solenoid to get at napa.
If you tell them what mower brand and model you have, they should be able to get what you need.
They said they needed part number solenoid. @@avarageerod
I have the same issue but everything is lit up so does that mean my starter is bad

Sounds like a bad starter, but it could be both. Usually, two things don't go bad at the same time

Well done.
thasnks! this was the issue
My mower is making a loud clicking noise when key turned why?
Could be a few things but it sounds like the starter solenoid or the starter is bad. Worse case would be the engine is locked up.

To jump the solenoid and start it.
Yes. He shows that near end of video
