In case anybody does not know this, MHA was animated by Studio Bones, the same studio which animated many shows like Mob Psycho 100, the legendary Fullmetal Alchemist (both 2003 and 2009) and many more. The climax fight in this episode was animated by the legend Yutaka Nakamura. So of course, the animation here is incredible.
13:45 this is the first time someone mentioned about the “thanks” tone of Shoto. I’ve always loved this moment too. Ange…. Arigato.

Me too!! His calm demeanor means so much more to me than when they scream lmao. It really fits the feeling of him finally (well almost) accepting his own powers. This is why Yuki kajii was the perfect man for the job😂 And topping it off with dropping the title of the episode “shoto todoroki: origin” ugh perfection
Everything Midoriya does is to save people, even though he often makes self-destructive decisions. In his head, everyone who needs help comes before him. So when he talks about having a fair fight, it's because he wanted Todoroki to be saved from his own bonds. To sum it up, Midoriya is extremely selfless, a true hero, which is the purpose of the anime that began with him narrating how he became the greatest hero of all. At this point in the anime, Todoroki is stronger than Midoriya, undeniably, even using only ice, if he was psychologically well, he would win, but in my opinion the true hero of the episode was Midoriya who started the process of self-healing from Todoroki's traumas.

Rei isn't directly put into a hospital because of the physical abuse, but the on-going physical and emotional abuse she recieves from Endeavor severely traumatizes her to the point of having a psychotic break (severe PTSD does that to people) and accidentally harms her son.
A psychotic break or a psychosis is not the same as being a psycho.
It happens when a person loses touch with reality due to a decline in their mental well-being. People with PTSD often experience it.
That being said, yes, she's not fit to be a mom at that time. She harms her son, she's a danger to herself and her children, but let's not forget who puts her into that condition in the first place.
Compared to Endeavor who marries with the sole purpose of creating eugenic kids, throws aside his son after he no longer serves his purpose, can't let go of his obsession despite giving up right away on supporting his son, coerces his wife into having more babies, neglects his other kids, beats his wife, beats his son and isolates him, etc, Rei's mistakes are A LOT more redeemable than him.

One of the reasons todoroki is so strong is the fact is that he can stop himself from freezing with his fire and vice verca so him refusing to use his fire is actually a hinderance

Something that people used to forget about Midoriya is that he has the disadvantage that he had to rush the learning process to use his powers and the rest of characters had they entire childhood and more to learn how to use their quirks. For me that makes him even more impressive.

This week has some of the most anticipated new animes released in Dandadan and uzumaki , bluelock season 2 is also coming out this weekend .
You really should do a cover of 'You Say Run', Ange! It's the song playing at the climax of that fight. One of the best tracks in the MHA OST for sure.
Shoto’s coming to accept his power as his own, and I couldn’t be prouder. Also the fact that Endeavor was allowed to get away with any of the horrible things he’s done really says a lot about hero society.

Todoroki's mom was put into a mental hospital not for physical injuries, I think it's a translation thing
Yeah we figured a bit later on seeing as though she didnt seem to have injuries
the translation was fine, todorokis father said "she injured you" not that shes injured.
Alot of lines miss the impact with less said or lost in translation in the Sub. That's why I love the ENG Dub more. The voice actors are top notch for both sub & dub. Not trying to start the tired old debate here! 😂
For example, I love the ENG Dub of Deku's opinion of Todoroki in this episode.
Deku:
"It's not just that his quirk is powerful. His judgement, mobility, reasoning; All of his abilities are...incredible."

One of many peak episodes! I just love how Deku is just wanting to save everyone else, All Might see's it clear as day. All the other pro hero's are questioning his methods though because his poor body is not holding up well meanwhile Todoroki is thanking him for showing him he can be his own person, a hero who can use both sides of his body to help others and proceeds to send our boy flying into the wall...
No one said being a hero was easy Deku.
Also, besides the climax of course, I think my favorite part of this fight is the actual demon time that Deku is on during it when he starts realizing Todoroki's limits with his ice. His eyes and face when he surprised everyone using his broken fingers to do more flicks, and when he used his thumb and cheek. Just perfection. One of the best Deku moments in the entire series even to the current season if I'm being honest. He looked like he was legit going crazy for a moment there.
Yes, we were waiting for 10. And it is one of my most favourite episodes of the entire series. When i saw it for the first time i lost my sh*t.

One of the best episodes of the early seasons. Todoroki’s tragic backstory gets some light shed on it and it really showcases how amazing Deku is at motivating people. Also the soundtrack goes hard af and you can really hear some Eren Jeager come through the voice acting lol I love it. Oh yeah Ange please cover You Say Run! That song has been at the top of my Spotify for so long lol. Maybe you can get a drummer also??👀
and with this the todoroki family side story line starts probably the best in Mha and and in anime in general
Deku wasn’t just trying to be nice but he really was pissed that Shoto wasn’t using his full power. Deku wanted all the smoke.
To be honest that first punch of Deku ( the one that messed up his arm ) should've at least thrown Todo outside the ring
The fact that Todoroki actually "thanks" deku, i think that makes deku the hero of the day. Deku saw a friend suffering and couldnt just stand there. If todoroki didnt use his fire, Deku probably wouldve won since todoroki was already getting slowed down by his own ice. The fact deku was getting close enough to land hits means if deku had hit him with 100% of one for all, its over.
This episode is still to this day one the best of the entire show

Not tryna defend Endeavor at all, he has been a monumental asshole, but him putting Rei in that mental facility probably kept her out of prison. In the end, she did pour boiling water on Shoto's face, permanently scarring him. While that may or may not be UNDERSTANDABLE, it certainly isn't EXCUSABLE.
Ofc, Endeavor should himself be in prison for the 2 instances of abuse we see him commit. But just analyzing Rei's part, so yeah
I don't get Ange is pushing the narrative that Shoto is angry at All Might when he witnessed Shoto interrogate villains to get info about how they plan to kill All Might and eventually save All Might in season 1. 😂
Well he just said there might be some resentment there. Shoto would probably try to save his Dad too, he is a hero after all.
But yeah, seeing little Shoto idolising All Might should dispel that.

Part of my reasoning that Todoroki should get the MVP of the episode is that to give it to Deku isn't consistent with your other reactions, in a way. Like a similar argument could have been used for Tokoyami in the final of the Cavalry battle, but was dismissed because he didn't win the event(though I would argue the winner of that was less relevant than getting through to the next round, but that's a different story and not something to argue now). Same with any arguments in favour of Uraraka in the fight against Bakugo; they were immediately dismissed because she didn't win. Giving it to Deku this episode despite not winning doesn't seem fair to those other characters.
And Todoroki definitely earns it, I agree. Ultimately HE was the one to decide to use his other half, in spite of his father, and showed an insane level of mastery of his powers in the battle as a whole
I would give mvp to deku. If he just shut up and fought todorki he would have won, but since he has the heart of a hero so he can't help it and remind todoroki what he really wanted to be.❤

I would like to mention that Deku also made quite the jump during this battle, considering he was able to imagine the microwave and not kill Todoroki with his 100% power. Him landing a hit charged with One for All was impressive.
these two fighting over whose MVP HAHAHAAH but I get the discussions! MVP Deku though 😢 he was a better hero in my opinion. Imagine todoroki is half-ass-ing his quirk, but I also understand that he doesn’t want to use it because he has a deep hatred for his father but deku made him realize all of it even though there is a risk of him losing. He’s doing all of that while ignoring all the pain in his body. A truly selfless character. for me that is the essence of a hero.

Deku's goal has always be to be a hero who can save people with a smile, and that's exactly what he does here.
If you notice at the end Deku's arm isn't broken when he was using all his power, I don't think it's confirmed, but people theorize that Midnight put him to sleep before the impact.

Ahaha guys your not the first ones to think that endeavor had beaten his wife so bad to the point of hospitalization... But he's still the number 2 hero.. even though his an abusive trash father and husband(and to a certain degree physically abusive aswell) he can't beat his wife so bad she would need hospitalisation otherwise he wouldn't be the number 2 no longer.
He just put her in a psychiatric ward.

"put you in a hospital" is an allusion to physically injuring someone, in English.
Considering that was Endeavour's exact wording, it is a reasonable interpretation to make, even if it makes less sense in a world/legal way.
Its funny (in a sad way) that physical abuse is a no no, but being such a abuser that she needs to be put in the hospital for PTSD is fine. Though even I who considers psychological abuse just as bad, am bias and would think worst of him if he just beat her up. Weird how our brain works.
Fun fact: I started going to gym and working out after watching Midoriya in early episodes😂💪🏻

Deku deserves the mvp this episode just for the fact he threw the match just to help Shouto. On the other hand, Cementoss literally saved everyone in the stadium this episode. He is my second vote.

imo opinion MVP is not about who won but who did the biggest conbtribution to the story(of a character). If Deku would not have encouraged Shoto to use the fire, Shoto would have lost this fight because he was already freezing up while Deku still had ways to go.
In my opinion Deku deserves the MVP of the episode more than Todoroki, while it's true that Todoroki is the one deserving of the credit for overcoming his trauma, he couldn't have done it without Deku's help, so you could say that Todoroki was the victim who needed to be "saved" and Deku was the "hero" who saved Todoroki even if it meant putting him at a disadvatage in the fight and causing him the entire tournament.
The segment is called "My hero of the episode" after all, and Deku definitely was more "heroic" in this episode.

I remember when watching this episode the first time i was SO happy deku lost this fight.
Because at this point with him not being able to handle his powers it would have made zero sense for him to win against someone like todoroki or Bakugo
Todoroki was definitely MVP. Deku had amazing moments from being what we've expected from him but Shoto actually went through a change in this episode. Like the title says "Shoto Todoroki Origins" Shoto becomes a completely different character from this point on

To add my opinion to the Deku vs Todoroki MVP fight, i say todoroki won the episode, Deku won the season. from this point on, almost every win todoroki gains, is one that was influenced by deku, he is able to surpass deku, because of deku. That wont always be true, but for this season, its pretty spot on! (imo)
