I agree with Carlie completely. If the person isn't willing to make a change themselves, it doesn't matter how many people motivate you. Todoroki had to go through a lot to reach that point. He deserved the MVP.
To be fair Bakugo wasn't just throwing random words together, in the original the names were clever wordplay on his own name... they just weren't very heroic.
Bakugo didnt actually just put words together. Horikoshi loves world play, so every character's name in this show has some word play to their names. In Bakugo's case the kanji in his name are Baku meaning bomb, and go meaning powerful. The hero name he picks is Bakusatsuou. Baku meaning bomb, satsu meaning murder, and ou meaning king. So his name is a play on his actually name just elevated to king status and he adds murder for obvious reasons. The name also sounds very similar to the word bakuhatsu, which is the word for explosion. Bakugo is actually quite clever.
@@Chinese_Name literally common? Not metaphorically common? Maybe literarily common? Not sure how else the word common could have been taken in this context.
English translation unfortunately hurts Bakugo here. We've already seen that he's skillful from the fights and smart from scoring high on written tests so the name he chose is supposed to show how clever he is by turning his name into a wordplay. Bakusatsuou sounds similar to Bakugo, makes a claim at being number one with "ou" for king, and describes his ability with "bakusatsu" meaning booming or explosive murder.
I think the two interpretations of "Deku" correspond to a slight variation in the pronunciation. So Uravity didn't redefine it so much as point out the alternate meaning
I agree with Carlie completely about the MVP segment. Deku helped, but it was Todoroki who had to make the hard realizations and growth in that episode. I love Deku, but I also think he made some stupid and reckless decisions in that fight, destroying his body in his attempt to win. That's not okay, and I agree with Recovery Girl that he shouldn't necessarily be praised for it. He did permanent damage to himself. Overall, I love Deku for helping Todoroki, and I do think that's incredibly heroic, but on balance, Todoroki made better choices in that episode, and he also made huge strides in character growth. You can't just give all of his progress to Deku and disregard how difficult that growth was for him.
@@ImaBobbyMudda exactly what i was gonna say, It almost felt like Deku was not even trying to win. He was more focused on helping Todoroki realize that
@@ImaBobbyMudda But this argument is a little bit like saying Michael Jordan doesn't deserve MVP because without Scottie Pippin passing him the ball he would never score. Saying nothing about the message that this implies that teamwork isn't a valid basis for assigning MVP, it's also just not really helpful to the discussion to discount an accomplishment because it was afforded by someone else. No one is taking away from what Deku did either, but on balance Shoto is the one who grew the most from the situation, and won the match to boot, and did something extraordinarily difficult in the process. Deku struggled with his decision a little bit... but in the end he was always going to make the play, because that's who he is, the kid who reaches out for someone who needs help before his body can stop him. Shoto had to accept the offered hand, recognize his own agency, and overcome his inner demons in order to get through the match, and if we're talking about overcoming obstacles, his were way more stacked than Deku's were. Never going to be a clean answer here, but I'm with Carlie on the whole.
The Japanese of king explosion murder and lord explosion murder sounds a lot better than its english counterpart. Also it sounds similar to Bakugo's name.

Started to watch MHA when u guys uploaded s01 e02 today i even caught up to the todays released episode so starts for me to wait for another week to watch new episode.
i can't believe carlie screamed again 😭😭🤣 also Carlie, that was such a good point about todoroki for ep 10's MVP that I never thought about. I was 100% on team deku for MVP because setting aside the match and saying "it's your power, isn't it?" to todoroki is SO amazing and kind and shows that he is a true hero. but Carlie's also right that todoroki did the hard thing and accepted that notion in the moment and was able to use his fire, especially since for deku, helping people comes naturally to him but this is the first time we see todoroki somehat overcome his trauma. it's hard, I think either one would be fit for MVP.
To play devil's advocate on the e10 Deku vs Shoto debate, Deku did indeed look past the fight to the heart of the matter and throw away victory for the sake of helping his classmate, not even friend at this point in the story. HOWEVER: Shoto is the one who accepted his words and took the step over that line. You can't help someone who truly doesn't want to be saved, and accepting the help of a stranger to overcome deep-seated trauma for the sake of your dreams is an incredibly courageous act in and of itself. In terms of self sacrifice, Deku is probably MVP. But in terms of character growth and personal arc progression, MVP is undoubtedly Shoto. Plus icy-hot did win the match, so there's that too. Shoto: +Overcame personal demons +displayed willingness to accept others and grow +defied his father even as he accepted himself +won the fight -backslid after the episode and couldn't use his fire in the remaining matches (technically not a part of episode 10 so maybe not relevant to the evaluation) -needed outside help to accomplish his gains Deku: +Sacrificed his victory to help someone else +Saw the big picture despite the situation in front of him +Showed improved understanding of resourcefulness in regards to his quirk -Lost the match -Still can only use his quirk by crippling himself, showing no personal growth in actual skill I lean Shoto here, but if there was ever a split decision, that is the episode for it.
Gun Head the combat hero saw Uraraka at the sports festival and thought "I want to work with that little spitfire" at the USJ attack Thirteen was hurt because she does not have the situational awareness of a fighter, that is not going to happen to Uravity after training under Gun Head the combat hero
Look, I know what you guys usually react to, popular anime and tv shows, and generally what your patrons decide. But hear me out - would you consider reacting to a horror movie? lol, i know, i know, real left field stuff, but honestly, I think it could be really fun - you can start with a comedy horror "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" heavy on the comedy, very light on the horror. In light of Carlie's last two jump scares, I mean, I honestly don't know why you wouldnt. I hope you guys consider it and present it as an option/idea for your patrons. Guaranteed it'll be super fun, and do really well on YT. Great reaction of usual and looking forward to the next one!
Carlie had a good argument at the end here, in regards to the episode 10 MVP. I was originally for Deku, but her argument changed my mind toward Todoroki. Well done. 💙
I also consider that the MPV of episode 10 should be Midoriya and not Shoto because Shoto had his mind and heart closed, Midoriya was the one who opened Shoto´s eyes. Following the example that Ange mentioned, if you achieve something big but only after a family member or friend helps you realize it even though that implies sacrificing something important to them to help you, I mean you still did the hard part but only because someone else gives you a reason that you did not even have considered or able to see it before. That´s a big and selfless thing to do. Picture this, someone gives you money to start a business without asking you to return the money, basically a gift, and you do all the logistics to start that business and you succeed, you did hard work but that would not be even possible if the other person did not give you the money in the first place. Midoriya practically gave away his winning chance to Shoto just to help him feel good about himself. I mean, that is an example of pure heroism.
I don’t think we saw a jump scare like these even in the zombie shows reactions 😂 what’s happening Also I never knew the mvp for that episode was a big deal 😂 I’m with carlie , shoto deserved it
We’re waiting for the dub unfortunately! We’ve always watched Dragon Ball in English so we’re probably going to stick with it. I’ve heard good things so far!
for deku, his name is izuku midoriya and ONLY bakugo called him deku (possibly the middle school bullies too i don't remember). bakugo basically made the name. in my opinion he is comfortable enough to let anybody call him that because uraraka said instead of deku being "useless" it sounded like "you can do it" so even if bakugo had been using it for a terrible reason/meaning, he made it into something better. which explains why the fans and characters and everyone are now so comfortable with calling him deku and why before this episode they only called him midoriya (his surname) but i love carlie's thought on it so much, it made a lot more sense than whatever im talking about. 😭😭 but yea, i think deku deserved mvp for basically telling bakugo that he's using his insulting nickname for good now lol
I believe they mentioned somewhere that there's just too many new releases in the next few months (DanDaDan, Blue Lock, and Dragon Ball) and that they'll probably pick up Re:Zero s3 after one of those ends. Edit: From their patreon, they're picking up Arcane s2 and Oshi no Ko s2 as well, so yeah, they're pretty packed.
