I wish I found this video two weeks ago. I was severely under prepared and amazon took 3 days to give me critical care. Piggie passed away of respitory issues. At least I did find this channel for next time so the rest of my piggies will stay happy and healthy. ❤️
This is not the first time I'm following your advice but it is definitely the first time you saved me both my piggies. Out of the blue they both stopped drinking water, their eyes became running tears and their poop became very small and wet. Since it's August, I can't find any Vet where we live and I had no choice but to seek your advice. I found your video, I started giving them critical care, water with a syringe and massaging their belies. about 12 hours later they both started pooping and drinking normally and they begin to look more their selves. Thank you so much for your advice. It saved my piggies!
@@Kuromi_82727 teary eyes can sometimes be an indication that a guinea pig has very long front teeth, often just one and problems with the back molars (teeth). Or the Guinea Pig has a less good dental health wich needs to be checked regularly,
Thank you, Sarah, I wish I had come across your useful vids months earlier. My beloved piggie Yoda of three years just passed away on Dec 16 in 2022 due to bloat and gut stasis because of the vet's negligence. Yoda's death has been very hard on me till today. I have been crying a lot whenever sentimental moments or activities we had together or places I brought Yoda to pops up. It feels like my heart is never gonna heal and I am constantly asking what if this or what if that . I also wish there were a time machine for me to go back in time to undo all the grief I am going through now. Keep sharing, thank you so much. ❤️❤️❤️
I’ve heard this before, but you’ve now convinced me to order supplies so I’ll have things I need if one of my piggies begins to feel poorly. I’m glad you’re able to take such good care of Pedro, and I’ll say a prayer that he does continue to improve!
My baby has slowed down. He always has his greens and some fruit eveyday I noticed his home smelled bad. Never smelled such strong urine. He is a beautiful boy and smart
Oh, Sarah, I'm so sorry. Pedro seems like such a precious piggy, and I hope he recovers fully. He's so fortunate to have been adopted into your family, and he's obviously getting the best care he can!
Thank you, this video is so helpful. Our guinea pig is going through something similar at the moment, and the vet sent me home with the medication and feed, but I was unsure how to look after him properly. Your video has given me the confidence to better care for him, and hope that he will get better. I hope Pedro, and all your guineas are now doing well.
I'm praying for you Pedro. I know you can do it. You got a strong heart and a good will to live. You also got the best Mum to get you through this. We love you Pedro.
Thank you for this video. We recently saved a Guinea pig from a dirty, hoarded home. He has since developed a head tilt, has stopped being interested in eating and isn’t pooping much. The vet put him on antibiotics and pain meds. We also give him critical care. This boy is SO defiant and strong though! It’s incredibly hard to get meds or food into him. He fights me wildly. I’m not giving up though.
Sarah, you are amazing and wonderful! So intelligent, kind, compassionate and helped me emotionally. Unfortunately we lost our Teddy ( I purchased him 4 years ago for my granddaughter) to Gastric stasis. I had to force feed him which he wasn’t doing well with. When we first got him, he became I’ll because he had teeth issues. I syringe fed him than which was no problem at all. I couldn’t give him enough. Now, His poop got extremely small and was extremely dry. He was fighting me and I felt terrible force feeding him. The first vet never put him on the cisapride. I’m surprised because I know she consulted with the exotic specialist. I gave him the melexocam. After several days, I brought him to my regular vet to help him go over the rainbow bridge. He had not been coming out of his cave for quite a while and was hunched over and was suffering and I couldn’t bear to have him suffer any more. I miss him terribly and I feel like I keep seeing him. He was the sweetest, feistiest kind and loving little guy you ever wanted to meet. As sick as he was he still came out every now and then to see who is visiting who is there in the house. But the last few days he wasn’t even doing that. I gave him plenty of water and listen to your video. I called the vet several times. They put him on the cisapride. Maybe by then it was too late. Anyway he is not with us and our hearts break for him. With love we miss you Teddy. Life won’t be the same without you.💔💙😢 my vet did feel a mass in his abdomen and I felt it too. I only wish the exotic specialist was available but had been off for several days since that last visit to the emergency room. RIP Teddy Boy. Ty Sarah! Pedro is PRECIOUS!! I'm SO sorry, Sarah!! You know, my 4 year old piggy Gracie, a beautiful abbysinian piggy, got a UTI, and took a course of antibiotics. My other piggies have had it with no problem, but they love Benebac, a probiotic like the one you have in the pen form, so I always gave that with it, and there weren't any problems. Gracie doesn't care for it, but since it wasn't really a harsh antibiotic, I didn't give her the probiotic. At almost the 10th day of treatment, she started with diarrhea, and I was SO nervous! I remembered I had some in powdered form as well, because she wouldn't take the gel, and I had to give her quite a bit, as well as syringing her critical care and water as well, and gas drops and Medicam. Thankfully she had the Medicam from the UTI, but I called the vet and basically told her I didn't care if she had no appointments for a few days, I would come anyway no matter what if she didn't improve, lol!! I was in tears, I know with piggies their poops are very very important! I thought she was going to die, I didn't want to go to sleep, but fortunately she made a recovery after 2 or so days, so to hear that Pedro had diarrhea was SO disheartening! He looks much better, and I know first hand that prayer works, most definitely, so I did that first thing! Pedro is in my prayers, rest easy!! Your piggies are ALL so beautiful, I enjoyed the shots of them so much, so I'll pray especially for all of them, little precious Lyra ❤ as well!!
Thank you so much Susan ❤ I'm sorry to hear about Gracie but so relieved to hear she recovered well, I can tell you did everything for her, they really do steal our hearts!!
Hope Pedro is feeling better soon, I know how stressful it can be, one of my piggies is having diarrhoea on and off. Benebac has helped him, another probiotic
Hi Sarah, Such sad news 😥 dear Pedro xx Thank you for sharing this really useful and helpful video. Get well soon dear little Pedro- you are strong and having the very best of loving care. Wishing you a speedy recovery and plenty of popcorning very soon! With lots of love 🥰 Jemma xx

Poor sweet Pedro, I hope he gets well soon. I have been prescribed Emeprid before, worked well. I haven't heard of that antibiotic, I will keep a note of that.
Really hope Pedro makes a full recovery 💙 My piggy had the same mix of meds when she had diarrhea at Christmas. By the way if you're finding the bowl a bit big for the syringe food I found an egg cup worked best as I wasn't trying to chase it round the bowl with one hand while holding piggy! You know you can blend their pellets and add water and a tiny amount of purée veggies if it's very bland. But the shop bought stuff is probably more beneficial I don't know I'm not a expert however I do know in the living crisis people might not have much money xx small tip I picked up from a rescue place but only if you're skint ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ If you are unable to access critical care then in some situations ground up guinea pig pellets can be used. These can be soaked in warm water and then mashed up, or put into a coffee/spice grinder to make a powder, to mix with water to make a slurry.
My guinea pig, Dasher who is 6 years old had really bad bloat. Her stomach was rock solid and she couldn’t really move. I thought I was going to loose her but I stuck through it and she is back to running around and popcorning. She still needs a probiotic or gas drops sometimes but she’s a senior piggie so it’s okay. I hope Pedro gets better soon💞
@@SqueakDreams me neither. It was so scary. I took her to the emergency vet and they drained her and relieved some of the gas. They put her on strong medicine and she got better and then worse again. Turns out the reason why she was getting worse again was the medication. Having sick guinea pigs are so scary because they are so tiny and fragile but Dasher was very strong and pulled through. 💕☺️
I never heard of the massage tool to help get the gut moving 😲 that is pretty cool and thanks for sharing these tips! Good luck with Pedro, I hope he gets better
@@SqueakDreams could you link me to where i can buy one please my pig is on all the meds for GI stasis but i ordered the probiotic and would like to get the tummy massager too x
This is a very helpful video during a time that’s a bit stressful- which is taking care of a sick pet 😢 I just wanted to note- though this is an older post…. that many types of gripe water still could have alcohol as an ingredient. I’ve accidentally bought some myself (for my human baby, LOL). I am grateful for the tips and cross my fingers for my long haired Luna!!
Oh Pedro 🧡 thank you so much for sharing! Such an important vid!! I'd never thought of a tummy massager! Feel better soon buddy, you are in good hands 😘😊xxx love from me, Mr Lomu and Taika
Thanks for sharing this video, I had 2 very sick piggies in the last 4 months (both with different issues) and they needed lots of meds and extra care. 1 of my piggies didn't make it and I was heartbroken. I have a first aid kit for my piggies, just in case, maybe it is a good idea to make a video about it But first of all, I hope Pedro is going to be alright. Sending him a lot of healing vibes ;)
Speedy recovery! 🍀 Digestion problems are definetly common with guineapigs and also beatable if you react fast enough and go to the vets. Bellymassages can also help with blowd if you dont habe this tool:)
Thank you! If he is poorly and needs syringe feeding depending on how long you are out of the house for you will probably be okay with a big feed before you leave and one when you get back. More intensive care with getting them moving and tummy massages and regular feeds etc will be needed in the evening and overnight though ❤
Glad that Pedro is on the mend. Thanks so much fir the useful info. I’ve also been making ‘poop soup’ from a fresh healthy gippi poop. Its gross but apparently that’s what guinea pigs do when they are able. 😝💩💩💩
Commenting again because I can’t tell you how much your video is helping me take care of my piggie. I have a question - any speed or any times of day you use the massager for them when they are ill? I’m gonna give it a try on my pig
Thank you and sending all the healing vibes to your piggie! Bloat and gut stasis can be a challenge to overcome, pooping is a good sign even if your piggie is not yet ready to eat for themselves. The massager I have is quite strong, and only one setting so I put it facing up with a blanket around it and one layer over it then sit the piggie's belly on top. This combined with hand massaging every few hours for 15-20 minutes or so works wonders to get them pooping and things moving again. You also get a feel for when the gas build up is starting to lessen, although bloat (and our piggies feeling better and then worse again) comes and goes in waves throughout the day, my vet told me this is a common symptom. Keep up the syringe feeding and hard work, I hope your piggie recovers
@@SqueakDreams thank you very much! Sounds like I have a similar massager then. His meds just finished yesterday and he gained a little bit of weight back since then so I’m pretty optimistic. He’s still had his appetite too so I’m hoping for the best. Thank you so much for your advice!
Thank you very much for this video. Do you have any tips to get my guinea pig to eat the critical care? She's fighting taking it at the moment and I'm worried about forcing it and having her inhaling it 😢
mine has teary eyes and is barely opening them, almost no food, no water its been almost 24 hours and all i can do is hope he makes it, no vets are taking him because i guess hes a exotic animal...
so i am only at the 3:45 mark i just have to say i cant wait to see what you use that massager for i got one for me and it never did what i wanted. so its just sitting in the back of a closet unused LOL Interesting i never thought of vibrating anything to help get things moving glad i have something for it guess mine moves to the piggie first aid kit instead of the closet
I hope Pedro is ok now ❤️ Did you buy all off these meds before getting guinea pigs, or when they got ill? We’re looking to rescue 2 boys for our first family pets. Beginners here lol. We have boy/girl twins that are 2 years old and thought they would be a lovely pet. Just want to make sure we have everything needed. Xx
Thank you, Pedro is back to his normal self thankfully! That's great you're looking to get pigs and adopting too! ❤ I didn't have everything in the beginning and the prescription meds are only available from the vet but I would recommend the other things, particularly critical care as it's very important to step in when they don't want to eat for themselves, to prevent complete gut stasis.
Pleas tell me somthing to help me🙏🏽 Is it ok for my silkie guinea pig to sit sleep and puff up?she is acting normal but she has a lot of poop on her paws but u can’t really tell if it’s diherea on the side on the cage we’re there’s no part of the blankets because I have 2 more female guinea pigs and it could be pee mixed but I’m so worried for my silkie guinea pig loxie because she actually loves me so much and I love her and I would have depression if she died early because she is only two years old about to be 3 and silkie guinea pigs live up to 5-7 years 😭
Oh and I'm assuming tiny poops day before now nine is because she isn't eating.i checked her bottom she's notblocked at re end. I used a stop n Vaseline and so I'm going to keep striving bottled water bc I'm thinking I have high calcium in our water and that would add to a uti issue. It could be a stone. I'm going to disinfect their houses too. I change their blankets twice a day so they live in a pretty clean environment. Though I got omicron the week of Christmas and Someone caring for them didn't change their blankets bedding or clean properly and then this happens so I'm curious if the bacteria came from the nasty blankets I mean they were hard n crusted. I was so angry. I clean my cafes a.m and night.
hi i need help my guinea pig is not eaing well or drinking and is losing weight and is having some problems with breathing like he is scared any advice ?
Hello due to the area I’m living in the nearest wet can only be booked for appointments three days later my pig has not been pooping due to eating of plastic and now is having the complete opposite of your pics problem which the poop is extremely dry besides prebiotic and food change did you do any other things that help your Guinea pig to start poop
Small, often light coloured, hard droppings can indicate dehydration, as well as just generally not getting enough food and possible bloat due to food not moving through the guts quickly enough. The massaging described in the video will help get things moving especially if there is gas build up. And if you aren't also syringing water then start this too - aim for 50/60 ml of water a day. I give water on it's own bit by bit before some critical care (helps stop them dribbling and getting a wet chin) - e.g. 5 ml of water, followed by 5 ml of critical care than a half hour break followed by the same thing - this maybe 5 times a day, less as piggie starts to eat more by themselves. Water is one of the most important things for gut stasis as it stops the food drying up in the digestive tract and becoming even more difficult to shift, also it will help your piggie feel better too. But do get to the vets as the medication (gut stimulant and metacam if in pain) will help so much. Healing vibes for your piggie!
My guinea pig just declined in weight and she ate half a romaine yesterday then nothing so I made her a bowl of mushed pellets and Timothy hay I ground down in my coffee grinder added water syringed her a bit and syringes her oranges for vit c. I syringes her water too. She just peed and was squeaking while peeing. So now I'm thinking uti. No blood on my shirt where she did this. I lost a piggy on thanksgiving. I tried like heck but she died. No vet could help there's literally nobody good but one vet and I'm praying to go in tomorrow.
My guinea pig is just over 5yrs old don't move around as much still eating I do give him water is this normal also he has a blockage in his bum but I have helped cleaned him out
My Guinea pig is facing dental problems we recently went to vet, and unfortunately vet advised to take off her one damaged teeth😥😥 after that she just stop eating and pooping even I hand feed her at every 2-3 her following timetable but still she looks tired and sad 😔 I trying my best but still she is not eating and pooping 😔

I hope the little dude is OK! 😔
He is feeling much better 😊❤
@@SqueakDreams Great news!!!!
Thank you and for sharing Dashers experience too, I haven't known bloat that bad, she did a great job pulling through! ❤😊
It really helps to get them pooping again, as does tummy massages 😀
@@SqueakDreams could you link me to where i can buy one please my pig is on all the meds for GI stasis but i ordered the probiotic and would like to get the tummy massager too x
@@birbarmygeneral if you follow the amazon storefront links in the description you'll find a good example 😊

I hope he gets well soon. Many blessings. From Philly fan.💖🤗
Thank you so much Bridget! ❤
This is a very helpful video during a time that’s a bit stressful- which is taking care of a sick pet 😢
I just wanted to note- though this is an older post…. that many types of gripe water still could have alcohol as an ingredient. I’ve accidentally bought some myself (for my human baby, LOL). I am grateful for the tips and cross my fingers for my long haired Luna!!
Thank you, and healing vibes for Luna ❤️
Thank you so much, I'm sorry to hear of your loss - know you did everything for your piggie ❤❤
Speedy recovery! 🍀 Digestion problems are definetly common with guineapigs and also beatable if you react fast enough and go to the vets. Bellymassages can also help with blowd if you dont habe this tool:)
Thank you! Yes the massages as well as the vibrating thing have worked wonders!
How do you massage their bellies?
get well soon pedro!
Thank you!
Aw, poor thing. I hope he gets better! ❤️
Hope Pedro gets better soon ❤
Thank you, we're getting there!
@@SqueakDreams Good news ❤
So sorry he is sick I hope he gets better
I hope Pedro gets better 💕
Thank you so much ❤
Poor Pedro:( Hope he gets better soon
Thank you so much ❤
Sending you lots of well wishes! I used to own piggies before I got sick myself. Good luck Pedro
Thank you. You are always giving such great advice. You have taught me so much. My piggies would be lost without you x
I’m sorry for your Guinea pig
🙏💖🤞 wish the best....he is lucky to have you.
Thank you Sara ! I hope he recovers fully !
Thank you! If he is poorly and needs syringe feeding depending on how long you are out of the house for you will probably be okay with a big feed before you leave and one when you get back. More intensive care with getting them moving and tummy massages and regular feeds etc will be needed in the evening and overnight though ❤
@@SqueakDreams Thank you so much ! Lots of courage !
Hope Pedro gets well ❤️🥰🐹☺️
Thank you so much ❤
Oh no I hope he gets better soon 🖤🐹
My piggie is so sick, I started this today. Fingers crossed
Thank you very much for this video. Do you have any tips to get my guinea pig to eat the critical care? She's fighting taking it at the moment and I'm worried about forcing it and having her inhaling it 😢
I always have a couple critical care packs and some syringes just in case 😂 I mean you never know when and what’s going to happen
mine has teary eyes and is barely opening them, almost no food, no water its been almost 24 hours and all i can do is hope he makes it, no vets are taking him because i guess hes a exotic animal...
You're a great pigmum ❤️
Awh thank you so much, that means a lot.
activated charcoal is also very good ..... i wish you the best 🌸😊🌸
Thank you! I will check that out 😊❤
so i am only at the 3:45 mark i just have to say i cant wait to see what you use that massager for i got one for me and it never did what i wanted. so its just sitting in the back of a closet unused LOL
Interesting i never thought of vibrating anything to help get things moving glad i have something for it guess mine moves to the piggie first aid kit instead of the closet
Haha! It can really help with bloat and a slow GI tract! I swear by it getting both Pedro and Lyra to poop again after they were ill!
I had the same issue with my Elvis...After a month he is finally eating normally again.
A month is a long struggle but so worth it, well done you and Elvis! ❤😊
I hope Pedro is ok now ❤️
Did you buy all off these meds before getting guinea pigs, or when they got ill?
We’re looking to rescue 2 boys for our first family pets. Beginners here lol. We have boy/girl twins that are 2 years old and thought they would be a lovely pet.
Just want to make sure we have everything needed. Xx
Thank you, Pedro is back to his normal self thankfully! That's great you're looking to get pigs and adopting too! ❤ I didn't have everything in the beginning and the prescription meds are only available from the vet but I would recommend the other things, particularly critical care as it's very important to step in when they don't want to eat for themselves, to prevent complete gut stasis.
Hope here's better soon x x I am having and issue with my boy Oscar not eating much or pooping...any help appreciated
Pedro got well again, I hope your Oscar is okay, I have this video and also one on Bloat and Gut Stasis that you might fine useful ❤
My guinea pig died before i saw this, now the other one is lonely😢
Pleas tell me somthing to help me🙏🏽
Is it ok for my silkie guinea pig to sit sleep and puff up?she is acting normal but she has a lot of poop on her paws but u can’t really tell if it’s diherea on the side on the cage we’re there’s no part of the blankets because I have 2 more female guinea pigs and it could be pee mixed but I’m so worried for my silkie guinea pig loxie because she actually loves me so much and I love her and I would have depression if she died early because she is only two years old about to be 3 and silkie guinea pigs live up to 5-7 years 😭
Oh and I'm assuming tiny poops day before now nine is because she isn't eating.i checked her bottom she's notblocked at re end.
@@SqueakDreams thank you so so much for your detailed reply,, I hope my pig gets better😭😭💪🙏🙏🙏
My guinea pig is just over 5yrs old don't move around as much still eating I do give him water is this normal also he has a blockage in his bum but I have helped cleaned him out
No ! I’m just watching now 😭
How much gripe water diluted?
my Guinea pig isn't eating or drinking any water
My Guinea pig is facing dental problems we recently went to vet, and unfortunately vet advised to take off her one damaged teeth😥😥 after that she just stop eating and pooping even I hand feed her at every 2-3 her following timetable but still she looks tired and sad 😔 I trying my best but still she is not eating and pooping 😔
Hi I am caring for my guy now. He was eating and pooping very little. Vet gave critical care and pain meds. We went back because no change after a day. Now vet is referring to animal hospital because he said his color of lips is changing and maybe more tests are needed. any advice?
I'm sorry to hear your piggie is unwell. Keep up the feeding and keeping him warm and comfortable. The lips could be suggestive of heart problems. Best of luck for your little guy 💖
My poor baby is losing alot of hair and getting really skinny and I can feel her bones...what does this mean and can I help her get better in anyway? I don't have enough money for the vet and I take great care of her I just don't know what is wrong.
My Guinea pig Doug is sick right now, no eating or pooping. It started with mushy poop day 1 and then no eating or pooping after that for 5 days now. I have him on antibiotics but it doesn’t seem to be working. He’s grinding his teeth and acting like it hurts to take a bite. I have no idea what to do 😢I’m heart broken…any advice welcome
What dose gripe water
Can you list the products in the description or comments, please?
I have most of them in the amazon Storefronts links in the description, under the guinea pig health section of the shop 😊
Hi, what do you use for mite on guinea pigs ?
Hi. Today my guinea pig started to move foward and back for a couple seconds. He usually does not do this. Does anyone know why he is doing this? It does not really look like a sezure but i cant figure out what it is
