As for Maomao....Her VA are the person who voicing Kumoko from "I'm a spider,so what?!" (Highly recommended).

Honestly. Nothing more gut wrenching than a mourning mother. The moment I heard her wail I remembered the mother from the Hereditary movie. It was almost identical, I got chills.
Frieren and apothecary diaries honesty carried winter 2024 season really exited for the reactions
Both are very good.
This was probably my favorite anime of the year. The only thing I would point out is that it goes farther than most in making sure that almost every detail comes into play somehow later on, even if its several episodes later.
You'll definitely enjoy this show. Just FYI (because it's not explained in the show) "mao" is a Chinese word for cat, so Maomao's cat animations are a cute visual pun. She's an AWESOME character though, one of the best MCs of the modern era right now

Maomao is one of my favorite character's across any anime. She has an extremely interesting personality.

Up until the late 1800s lead was used in cosmetics and still used in paints till the mid 1900s.
Depends on country somewhat but yeah most countries have bans and heavy controls on lead based paints in domestic use. North America didn't ban it in homes until the 70's so some older homes still have it. White lead based cosmetics produced a perfect white and applied better than other options so it was popular, same with white lead based paints which can still be sold in small quantities for the purposes of artwork as it dries well and has a great colour it's still prized. Road markings also still use lead based paints.

Apothecary is now my favorite anime of all time. One of the best written female-lead characters ever and some of the best world building using Imperial China as a backdrop.
you know when a show is backed by the studio by how much gorgeous it is. and this one is one of the most beautiful i saw! I love aoi yuuki (maomao) her voice is perfect for this character. she's also the voice of Yuzu from A silent voice. i already saw that show 4 times and never get bored by it. can't wait for 2025 for the season 2.
The super ride of the season has started! The next 25 episodes are going to be fantastic to watch you guys watch. Keep the great discussions up!
Honestly, the only weird part about this show is how there's only ONE physician for all the concubines. You'd think that the emperor would be willing to hire a few more doctors to make sure his wives and children would be safe. On the other hand, maybe the problem is that the position is considered high risk because a physician would have access to all the royal heirs, so the emperor might have decided to promote someone who's 100% loyal and trustworthy even though they aren't the best at the job.
iirc in thw manga they say that it's hard to find a physician that is willing to become an eunuch just to be able to work at the rear palace. 😮
Yay I'm so excited! I love this series so much that after watching the anime I immediately bought the manga adaptation and the original novels, haven't been this focused reading novels for a while 😂

Yaaaaaay!! This series got me back to anime. I was graduating pharmacy school when this came out. It's so amazing that I couldn't even wait for all the episodes to be released. Had to read the manga lol 💙
I was so confused why I feel like the voice in 3:28 is so familiar. Turns out the VA's Yuuki Aoi and the specific voice I heard I remembered was Yuzuru Nishimiya's from Silent Voice lol (which Yuuki Aoi also voiced)
This, frieren and dungeon meshi was the big 3 of that season for me
I CANNOT wait for you guys to get to episode 4.

Honestly, I skipped on this anime until it finished airing. I hated how it was too overrated because i thought its a cliche historical romance drama but I was wrong.
What made me watch this was probably when I saw the clip about Maomao's parents.
Funny enough this anime was actually super underrated because frieren was the anime most talked about while apothecary diaries was sweeped under the rug for a bit. When peopel finally started watching apothecary diaries they talked about it A LOT because it wasn’t talked about that much at the time. Then a lot of people watched it. But for a while it wasn’t talked about at all (or from my end, despite me reading the light novel and manga beforehand. I still saw no one talking about it a while back)

Over this last year, besides One Piece (always #1 as it's a continuous series with just short breaks) and That Time I Got reincarnated as a slime (still 9 episodes left this season), my two favorite new series I've watched have been Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and The Apothecary Diaries.
You're likely several episodes in already, but guaranteed you already love Maomao. I assume your, "hell yeah! Maomao is a beast!" moment was what I dub the "slap heard 'round the world" of ep 4 xD
