The fictional character Spider-Man, a comic book superhero created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko and featured in Marvel Comics publications, has currently appeared in ten live-action films since his inception, not including fan made shorts and guest appearances in other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films. Spider-Man is the alter-ego of Peter Parker, a talented young freelance photographer and aspiring scientist imbued with superhuman abilities after being bitten by a radioactive/genetically-altered spider.
The first live-action film based on Spider-Man was the unauthorized short Spider-Man by Donald F. Glut in 1969. This was followed by Spider-Man, an American made-for-television film that premiered on the CBS network in 1977. It starred Nicholas Hammond and was intended as a backdoor pilot for what became a weekly episodic TV series.
The rights to further films featuring the character were purchased in 1985, and moved through various production companies and studios before being secured by Sony Pictures Entertainment (Columbia Pictures) for $10 million (plus 5% of any movies' gross revenue and half the revenue from consumer products),[1] who hired Sam Raimi to direct Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Spider-Man 3 (2007) starring Tobey Maguire. The first two films were met with positive reviews from critics, while the third film received a more mixed response.
In 2010, Sony announced that the franchise would be rebooted. Marc Webb was hired to direct, with Andrew Garfield starring, and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) was released to positive reviews. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) saw mixed reviews.
In February 2015, Disney, Marvel Studios and Sony announced a deal to share the Spider-Man film rights, leading to a new iteration of Spider-Man being introduced and integrated into the MCU. The deal allows Sony to distribute and have final creative control over MCU films where Spider-Man is the main character, while Disney distributes the ones where he is not. Tom Holland portrays this younger version of Spider-Man, appearing in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), as well as the sequel to Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). All of Spider-Man's MCU appearances have received positive reviews thus far.
Plans for an animated Spider-Man film were officially announced by Sony in April 2015. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) combines Sony Pictures Imageworks' computer animation pipeline with traditional hand-drawn comic book techniques, inspired by the work of Miles Morales's co-creator Sara Pichelli. Completing the animation required up to 140 animators, the largest crew ever used by Sony Pictures Animation for a film. Into the Spider-Verse received universal acclaim, winning the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and becoming the highest-rated film in the Spider-Man franchise, surpassing Spider-Man 2.
Raimi's trilogy grossed $2.5 billion worldwide on a $597 million budget, while Webb's films grossed over $1.4 billion on a $480 million budget. Spider-Man's MCU films (Homecoming and Far From Home) have grossed over $1.9 billion on a $335 million budget and Into the Spider-Verse grossed $375 million on a $90 million budget. The Spider-Man films have grossed over $6.3 billion collectively at the global box office. This includes Far From Home, which became the first film to gross over $1 billion worldwide as well as Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film ever.

TechnikLEO I think they could’ve managed having multiple villains as long as the script was naturally handled by the directors without studio interference. It would make it harder to handle but not impossible to do correctly, Raimi was forced to shoehorn Venom in his film against his wishes if he had a clear vision for Venom to be included on his own without being forced I see that film being much better.

Joshua Benitez No one knows what happened to him. He sold his channel to FandomWire and that’s all anyone knows. He was silent for years after Civil War released. Not even when they made Homecoming or Infinity War. He finally came out and said anything was when Stan Lee died. And has stil been silent ever since including when Endgame and Far From Home dropped. It’s a weird scenario. He was probably the biggest Spider Man fan ever. Such a mystery to this day.

I’m not gonna lie, I enjoyed most of the sequel but somethings were unwatchable like the final fight of Spider-Man vs Electro or Electro in general except the Times Square send which is 100% awesome. It’s a shame the electro was bad because I love Jamie Fox

I think it'd be cool if "bringing people back" meant that the venom symbiote was just showing him really vivid visions of the people he's lost coming back and talking to him. Maybe they blame him for their deaths and the symbiote was creating these visions to weaken peter and make him more reliant on venom so they fuse. Venom taking advantage of Peter blaming himself during this mourning period to betyer himself. The "Spider-Mare" if you will.

It's actually his fault that Spider-Man 3 didn't turn out the way Sam Raimi wanted it to because Avi Arad forced Venom in there implying that he pretty much ruined the Sam Raimi trilogy.

I mean... just because it's not being all done by Disney, doesn't mean they don't have a fault in it. They don't simply go "hey, we give you money and you do the movie". They know what they're spending it on and they sure as hell want to make it worth it. Honestly I feel Marc Webb truly made his film, for the most part, with the first one. I actually really loved the first one, though see its flaws which most of the deleted scenes improve upon. The second one feels like studio meddeling along the lines of Rami's Spiderman 3. There are moments of greatness in TASM 2. The first act was quite good until the second half becomes a bunch of set up for the future. The Gwen sequence is beautiful and proves Garfield/Stone is the best on film relationship within the Spiderman films. This 3rd TASM films sounds like Sony took it from Webb and just made him do what they said. Webb, Garfield, Stone, and rest of the cast and crew deserved better. Sony fucked them over. That's why you let the director do his/her job.
Bro tasm 1 was 4 hours long....how did they think removing 2 hours was a great idea and there was like 8 hours of footage for tasm 2 and andrew literally cried after reading the original script for tasm 2 and said it was beautiful

It seems like there were a ton of ideas circulating around, but I doubt they would’ve just crammed all of them into one movie like this. It seems unlikely that the whole resurrecting the dead thing would’ve made it past the drawing board. But I have to say, Peter’s loss of Gwen is the PERFECT set up for him to become attached to Venom during that state of vulnerability.

I actually LOVED TASM1. To date, it is my favorite Spider-man film, live action appearance and, live action iteration. I’ve been a Spider-man fan for 32 years and as an adult, I truly appreciated the more grounded, darker tone of the movie over the ultra campy Raimi series. Raimi couldn’t even make venom and the black suit dark, which in the comics, was an exceedingly dark time in Peter’s life. TASM2 was a mess. Not because of the number of villains, but because it was obvious Sony had their hands in the cookie jar much like they did with Spider-man 3 (and were trying to do with Spider-man 4 which consequently caused Raimi and crew to leave). Electro was written horribly, in my opinion, though I did like the struggle between Peter and Harry, that dynamic was actually welcomed. However, the film should’ve just focused on one villain and allow Harry to be developed more, similar to the Raimi series. I certainly think it was way too early to kill Gwen and they could’ve still introduced MJ without killing Gwen. Most people’s beef with AG as the starring role is they claim he’s too handsome/too cool. Again, as a fan for 32 years (I’m 41, so I started out in the late 80s with jumbo coloring books, Spider-man and his amazing fans, the Spider-man live action show and movie of that time), and especially owing old comics from the 70s though to today, that’s a very poor and clearly ignorant point. Peter Parker was NEVER considered “ugly” or “unattractive”. Yes, he was a nerd, but he wasn’t exactly meek or fearful. In fact, in the story showcasing his origin, he actually had plans and executed said plan to ask Cheerleader Liz Allan to accompany him as a date to the science fair where he was bitten. You know how much courage it takes to be in Peter’s position in the social hierarchy of his school to ask a top cheerleader out on a date? She declined, of course, because he is a nerd and, the optics of that would be devastating to her popularity. After peter acquired his powers, that boosted his confidence even more, and what do you know, he started dating Liz Allan, then Betty Brant, so on. There’s no reason to assume or believe Peter shouldn’t be attractive, so Andrew Garfield being handsome should not be a knock at the movie. He certainly wasn’t “too cool” in the film either. He got picked on, and if you say he wasn’t, maybe you weren’t paying attention. I can name two points in the film before getting his powers where he was victimized by Flash and crew. People need to understand, Spider-man is sort of a comedian in a dark world. He’s putting his life on the line to save the day while joking the whole time. TASM1 captures that and, to an extent, the beginning (first 10 mins or so) of TASM2 captured that. Sam Raimi decided to make the Spider-man world comedic and light, that made it hard to take the movie serious, the banter was almost nonexistent and Raimi appears to depend on Slapstick comedy to showcase the typical comedy of spider-man comics; a very important part of Spider-man’s comic IS his banter, NOT situational comedy. I could go on about the differences of style between Webb and Raimi (and I don’t mention the MCU version because to me, they trend back towards the Raimi style and I disliked those films). I just know, as a life long Spider-man fan, I enjoyed TASM1 most of all. No movie will do everything perfect, we will always have “artist input” from the directors, the writers.

Tbf to Sony, some of their ideas actually did sound kinda cool. Introducing the symbiote after the death of Gwen as an unhealthy coping mechanism, a Silver Sable movie, a Black Cat movie, an actual Venom spinoff, etc. It's mainly just the stuff with the Sinister Six & the Goblins that seemed a little too chaotic / pointless. But I would still be totally watching them out of sheer curiosity in some alternate universe.

The best thing we can get is Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in a live action Spider Verse movie. After Doctor Stranger Multiverse of Madness, this is the best thing we can get. Maybe even Spider Man 3 (Marvel) can have a small tease

It's obviously Sony's idea so they can promote the new Spiderman as part of MCU. That's why in every single trailer they had Iron Man and even had fake shots of Spiderman swinging alongside Iron Man flying.

I honestly think that the amazing spiderman should've been made a series, with all the stuff that was going on, you can have venom at the beginning of the season, then the second half of it can be building up with battles with the future members of the sinister six, giving them a reason to hate spider man, then the next season could focus on the build up to him being defeated by the six, then the second half he builds up strength, using the black suit in a explosive two part season finale.
That would be cool, but a Spider-Man show would never be made because of the budget it would require. There’s no way they’d make the money back on a show. It would be at least a $1 billion budget to have a Spider-Man show that’s film quality

I love Andrew Garfield's Spidey, it felt the most natural. That said, a hero is only as great as his villains, I just think having too many people in a movie bloats it was a whole. Let the characters develop, more importantly, let the viewers immerse themselves into the characters before you shove: ACTION!! ACTION!! ACTION!! down the fans' throats. Less is more, 2 well-thought out villains can carry impact exponentially if written right. But 6 villains is a little O. D.
I find these planned/failed productions, especially movies, so fascinating! I thought I knew most of the things regarding TASM 3, but Channel Pup showed a lot more. Very interesting. So would venom already be established? I guess he would end up having the same origin as his recent movie, since originaly Spider-Man gets the Symbiote first, then it goes on eddy. And how about the Lizard and Electro? I remember reading at the time that the two would return in the Sinister Six. The Lizard, btw, being mind-controlled by a collar in the helm of Green Goblin. Man, what could have been! Very intriguing thats for sure! Awesome video dude

I will admit, I think it was for the best that this movie was cancelled and keep in mind, I liked the first Amazing Spiderman movie. The second one I thought was alright. But after hearing the ideas of the movies and how it might go, I honestly might hate this movie. Just saying.
I remembered Marc Webb saying that Norman’s head would transform into Ultimate Green Goblin. I swear I heard this but it could be wrong.
The "Norman Osborn head in a jar" sounds so cliche.

Although I was excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, I’m kinda glad Sony cancelled it cause looking back on Amazing Spider-Man 2, now that I’m older, I do see it’s flaws. PS, having Spider-Man integrated in the MCU with the rest of his Marvel brethren was the best move Sony made.

I'd love to see the film because it left so many questions. I love tasm bc it revealed the story of Peters family and so mutch more and Andrew and Emma were perfect together. For me personaly the next films would be a pleasure to watch but i don't think they are coming anymore...

Is it weird that the writer in me almost wants to take a stab at this? Of course it’s way easier to work all this stuff into a prose story as opposed to film, but it could prove a fun mental exercise.
They could’ve had the amazing spiderman 2 be pretty much the same as the dark knight. Green Goblin in the place of Joker, tombstone and hammerhead as the crime bosses. Gwen in the place of Rachael and still kill her off

I always assumed TASM 3 would've been venom. Venom wasn't part of the sinister six and a venom movie was supposed to come out before it.
A story always gets ruined whenever the studio takes control from the directors. More often than not, their vision is much more refined, developed, and focused on story and characters. While the studio want to please the fans with what they think those fans want.
It really seems like their entire plan was to set up future films, without ever actually planning those films properly. Basically a bunch of bullet points on things they want to happen without developing why or how they happen.
And it's clear their vision was heavily tied towards marketing. More villains, more heroes, more stuff. And they never considered how it would impact the story itself. Sony pushing for Iron Man to have a big role in _Homecoming_ probably lead to the complete lack of any mention towards Uncle Ben. I'm not asking for Peter to go in depth with his origin and share his darkest moment (I certainly wouldn't want to describe that original sin to people I look up to/care about), but mentioning his name would at least be something considering it was his death that pushed Peter to become Spider-man. But the desire to have Iron Man be on the poster lead to the writers having to find a way to work him in naturally, which might have pushed Uncle Ben out of the picture entirely

Edit: Not being like the comics is actually a good thing, they tend to overcomplicate and make him overpowered(they have the room for it, the movies do not) What he needed to do was find out he doesn't belong with the avengers, the starks, in an iron man suit, or on top of the financial foundation of anyone but his own 9-5 in that amount of time, so now in spider-man 3 they can properly hurt him by focusing solely on taking away his friends, family, and city, without also taking from him the avengers and daddy stark's money to add too much to an already loaded concept.

@@Swordfish-01 I wasn't defending TASM 3, it's just as bad of an idea as making peter an avenger and putting him in an iron man suit and him being comfortable with both let alone either of those. The MCU made more money off of the name spider-man than TASM 2 did and that's all they're going off of. I'm not going to stop talking about this until they stop pretending he's spider-man or start treating him like spider-man.

First TASM had a Dark Knight feel about it that was very refreshing for the time, given how goofy the Toby movies had got (especially the 3rd one)…. But the 2nd movie had a real Iron Man 2 feel about it…. There is a good movie in there (and I like it as a movie) but they seemed to add layer and layer to it to basically set up a even bigger movie (clearly they saw Avengers Assemble and thought “we can do that!”)…. They should have waited one more movie before turning Harry in to the Goblin, or done more with Chris Cooper as Norman, rather than have him die in the opening stages of the film (given how big Oscorp played in the first movie, I do not think they had a firm plan with what they wanted to do) and Harry going through the whole movie being told he will die.
To be honest I would still rather have this instead of homecoming

Guys let’s do what we did to get the Zack Snyder cut to get Marc Webb’s vision of the of Spider-Man, no interruptions from Sony just Webb’s script and Andrews acting and everyone else.
And this is why I prefer Marvel's Spider-Man on the PS4 story, it fixes everything how broken The Amazing Spiderman films are.
