Being more faithful doesn't automatically make you better in the other aspects that make for a decent film. If ONLY it were that simple.

I love that in this world, Spider-Man’s arch-nemesis Norman Osborne, who wears a mask and becomes the Green Goblin, immediately dies from a disease that makes him look like a goblin & turns his skin green. I recommend you go watch Film Rant's defense of TASM2. It has quite a lot of valid points that explain why it is not a bad movie.

Good point. If I've learned anything from the last three Spider-Man resurrections, it's that he should always be played by a nobody. It fits into his character and how he's just an average Joe who gets thrust into being a superhero. That doesn't sell if he's being playing by Tom Cruise.

I have heard passionate speeches defending every horrible film that I have ever seen. Nothing surprises me anymore.
Well Kat, Star Wars is for some reason one of the most celebrated franchises even after the last 3 movies. So yeah. THere's some really, really dumb fucking people in this world.
I guess it's a combination of stupidity and [felt] _commitment_ ... people get married to all kinds of meaningless things, like sports-clubs that do bad and no longer consist of the people that once made them great and likable...
I guess they gave their money, and felt they _had_ to like it (to not moan the lost money and time); Already coming up with excuses and bogus explanations along the way, for why that is so and so, glossing over some of the mistakes (because they are honestly blind to them? - is that even possible, to be that oblivious, that stupid? - well... self-deception makes up for it!), and so on... and since they did that, they are sensitive when anyone points out how stupid the film really is, for it reflects on their own intellect (and dishonesty, and how easy they can be fooled - even by themselves) ... They then try to reinstate their bias to regain cognitive harmony, by blaming it all on the guy putting these nasty nasty ideas in their heads, raising awareness to the god-awfulness of that what they _committed_ to, like he was insulting the looks of their spouse (no matter if it's an "open secret" that she really is ugly) ... "Kill the messenger!", you know? - "he is to blame! - don't he dare confronting me with reality! - he is obviously a douche, and since he is, what he is saying is just stupid and nitpicking and ... and... and... errr - his voice sucks anyway! - and therefore it's not reality, is just lies lies and lies... and bad voice!"

I haven't seen it, but doesn't look TOO bad. Especially Electro's theme. Cheap dubstep, but *good* cheap dubstep.
How they wrote Electro in this movie will always, always bother me. It was strange how much time they spend setting him up as a sympathetic character, but then completely forget it in the second act. There's no real redemption arc and Jaime Foxx makes the character too likable.
On top of that, there's the whole mental health aspect. By the end of it, I couldn't even be mad at Electro and almost got angry that it wasn't being treated as a mental health issue. Like he .. clearly wasn't responsible for his actions and the abuse the character suffers the entire film by the seemingly uncaring world is just.... So strange? You can't really take joy in the character's defeat, at all. It's sad.
It's strange because if you'd gone the full route of him either being forgivable and abused or evil and angry at the world for how it treated him, it'd be fine. But instead, it ends in this lukewarm garbage.
Bad writing. The thing is, objectively, he has some responsibility of his actions, especially in later acts. But the reason he starts doing stupid shit is in part because of others treating him badly, and partly because the writers are bad. He doesn't have an arc, he has an abrupt turn when Spiderman forgets his name. Then he does things that has nothing to do with his ultimate motivation of "hating spiderman". So yeah, writers fault.

He should've been treated like Penguin in Batman Returns or Arthur Fleck in Joker. Maybe the reason he's so awkward and hears voices is that he has some ambiguous mental disorder and doesn't realize it, and comes across as creepy to people, so he's lonely. He looks up to Spider-Man for being a "perfect" person who's adored by everyone. After gaining his powers, he decides to get petty revenge on those who judged him and when Spidey rebukes him for his crimes he feels betrayed. By the ending, he should've realized how much harm he was causing, but messed with the power converters and everything's going wrong. Then, maybe he would've sacrificed himself to save the city like Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2.

@KJ Beast Yeah, I do appreciate they went more in that direction, even if it ended up with peer bullying not being a big story beat. At American big city public high schools, bullying is different. When there is over 1000 people in your grade, 4000+ students in one building...you have to be more unique to get bullied. You need to stand out, so being nerdy/awkward isn't always enough. Peter Parker would definitely get bullied at my middle school, but at my high school? Out of 1000 American teenagers?? He would be ignored and pushed around when they were forced to interact. Let's be real, Peter Parker is a nice looking straight quiet white kid who can hold his own enough by highschool (as in he is not completely disabled).
The writers really need to explain why bullies would still be running after him instead of, I don't know, anyone weaker or louder? Like, the disabled guy who is weaker and can't fight back, the more feminine guy, the more violent guy who will lash out...probably someone who can't speak English nearly as well so they have a harder time defending themselves, etc. whatever. Yeah. Since they chose to depict Peter Parker at a big city public high school like that, I'm glad they at least didn't do the stereotypical bullies, because it would have clashed. I don't know.

Gwen Stacy going that fast and hitting the ground that hard wouldn't have even made her nose bleed or left a puddle. That stop would've shattered her spine, legs, hip, caved in her skull. She would've had insane CSF leak (please spare yourself and don't look it up. It's cerebrospinal fluid that protects the brain and leaks from ears, tear ducts, nose, and head wound during fatal brain/spinal injuries), internal hemorrhaging, a concussion that would basically internally detach all organs/internally decapitate her, her lungs would collapse. Plus Peter stopped her so fast that all that would've happened anyway. She just would've hyper extended her back and dislocated her shoulders.
And on a movie making aspect, it looked like she was dead before she got to the ground. I don't know if that's just me or what, but maybe it was an 'artistic choice' as well as throwing away all the suspense in the scene by using the music they did, the stupid web-hand, and the slow motion for her falling.
But hey, maybe I'm just nitpicking a PG 13 comic book movie.

Electro actually hated Spider-Man as all his life he was ignored, and then he got the attention he always wanted when he appeared on the screens of Times Square. Spidey took that attention away from him when he replaced him on the screens. This, combined with the crowd cheering Spidey on and calling him names made him snap.

This is like the only Hans Zimmer soundtrack I dont like, but part of me thinks Hans Zimmer didn't pick the people to work with and Sony did.
I'm almost certain Sony picked them. And I'm certain that the dubsteppy track, whispering and all, was mainly Pharrell's doing. Mainly because for every good to great idea Pharrell has, he has like three bad ones.

What I believe something the Raimi films did really well that this film didn't do was the build-up of the epic conclusion. This movie its just like stuff happens and then the conclusion. Plus the character development in the Raimi films are waaaaay better.
the best thing raimi did is making movies that are competent on the most basic level, now, i dotn like them, but they are at least movies that work as movies
Another thing I loved is how much Rami indulged in camp of comics with the film. You can see it in how he frames shots, how he references silly tropes like 'SAVE MY BABY!"
It was just some super charming self aware camp.
One line from the first movie that I particularly liked was the Green Goblin shouting "We'll meet again Spiderman!" Like that's one of the most cliche comic book lines and it fit perfectly. I loved it :)

For literally the entire movie, we made fun of it like we were watching Birdemic or something back home. We even gave the blue guy a nickname! *Fish-Man, the keeper of the Dubstep*!

I hope so. I wasn't that much into Green Lantern, or the D.C. Universe, but now that I saw the movie, I'm really interested in the the lantern comic. The concepts, storylines, and characters are a cool part of the D.C. Universe.
I remember when this came out and they apparently wasted the majority of their budget on the effects for Electro which looked shit and then spent twice the amount of money on the ads and trailers, etc. which literally showed they entirety of the fucking movie and engraved it's release date in my head at the time.

I was brought here by IHE and since then I can't stop watching your videos but how the hell does Andrew Garfield fit the character of Peter Parker. when Peter Parker was in school, he was like the nerdiest kid ever. he had very few friends and was extremely unpopular. they might as well have gone with a completely different secret identity for Spiderman because Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker is just about the most well dressed most, attractive, most popular, great haired, most athletic, skateboarding social outcast that I've ever seen. the new actor playing as Peter Parker's name escapes me at the time but I can tell already that he fits the role way better. I personally don't like Tobey Maguire, but least his Peter Parker was more true to the character.

Well, over time Parker evolved into more fun, open person like Garfields character. So his Spider Man is more like the later one. I think neither Toby nor Andrew get the character 100% right. But Garfields is more interesting character. Between a more accurate depiction of a character, and one that is not accurate but more interesting I would always pick the second option

He specifically is good, the rest is god awful.
Now that's a good takeaway. I hope if Andrew completes his trilogy, his story gets a glow up like Chris Hemsworth's Thor trilogy did.

This movie could've worked if they took out electro and Peter's parents entirely (especially the whole Peter is the only one who could become Spider-Man because that's so against the character of Spider-Man) and they spent that time developing Harry and Peter's relationship.
