Surprisingly, it actually worked. Who knew it could be something so simple? In fact, I didn't even have to use rubbing alcohol, one dry q-tip along the two metal parts mentioned and on the lens (just for good measure) did the trick.

my tip is to push the silver metal plate that has the glass beam sensor on it back all the way. If the beam sensor is stuck at a point it will not read disk. Just push the thing bak far as it will go and it worked for me. No cleaning needed.

Literally pushed that metal piece back towards the end of the console since it’s movable and I’m literally able to play my games again. THANK YOU SO MUCH BRO I wish I could smooch ya. Same I tried playing mgs 3 on my ps2 slim (the exact model in the video but in black)it worked on the first try but then the game froze all of a sudden with my ps2 being overheated for some reason. Then I restarted the ps2,Aspect Ratio returned to normal but the disk reading errors started their bullshit sometimes it said that disk cannot be read sometimes the RSOD.I dont get it ffs if I dont play my ps2 for long the games would work with a really weird aspect ratio(the apsect ratio being small even tho I had full screen on the ps2 settings)and then when I played it again after sometime it starts to have disk read errors I dont know wtf is going on with my ps2.I just wanna play mgs 3 ffa

Thanks, this actually worked really well. I've been trying to play some of my old games but I've been getting a disc read error a lot lately, which I thought was odd since I didn't play my PS2 much in recent years and my games are nearly in mint condition. I didn't want to open my PS2 to replace the laser or anything really extreme like buying another one. After cleaning those two things, my games booted up almost instantly as if the system where brand new.

I see no reason why this would work. Those are metal brackets that clamp around a plastic tooth to lock them in place. If this worked for people, this method may have an unintended beneficial effect other than cleaning those two pieces of aluminum. Tried it for the sake of curiosity and it didn’t work because they perform no function outside of being brackets.

How could these 2 metal pins be read-heads? They've got no sensors on them and couldn't even come in contact with the DVD/CD.
So what's up with all the trolls telling this worked?
The metal pins just hold the stuff in place, they're clamps nothing more

Totally worked for me. Thanks dude. I was about ready to tear my whole PlayStation apart and try the duct tape lid trick. I just bought Simpsons Hit and Run and Dragon Quest 8 and I was getting a little disappointed. You saved the day

Those 2 pieces a just clips holding the laser assembly together, cleaning them will do nothing. This is the equivalent of polishing a car's lug nuts to fix a broken rim.

With the rubbing alcohol, do you have to wait till it dries after using the dry side of the Q tip?
