I think cleaning the mirror of the lense will fix the issue. I will try that later, although your video is one decade since you recorded this, but this still helps to those people who still own the legendary console of all time. My PS2 stopped reading disc including its game and PS1 games after it tried to read the free mcboot disc then this everything happened.

@theonethatgoofs I'll give you some better advice: clean off that little white plastic part that connects to the worm gear. I used a note card and fixed my PS2. It's easy enough to figure out how to do it with common sense. Usually, there's a dirt build-up that makes the eye not want to move up and down the worm gear.
@Galapenjo no.. calm down dood! its no worse than standing in front of a microwave or having an xray or mri done.. make sure the card didnt come out (jiggle it, push it a little) of your eject button.. its very delicut, the same thing happened to me and i started freaking out.
Also how much is a PS2 these days? You can get 2nd hand ones for about $50 It's hardly devestating if an old PS2 stops working and after trying everything else you give it a tap with a hammer. Don't tell me you've never given an old electrical device a strong tap to get it working again. I've had old TV's, VCR's, DVD players, Amplifiers etc... that have worked after giving it a good tap or rattle.

Most likely, the problem is that little white part that is attached to the eye unit that is riding the worm gear is dirty. That's what happened with mine.
If tweaking didn't work, just order a new laser pickup, they're not that expensive. Just look up tutorials on how to replace the laser in the fat PS2 and it should help you.
i just bought the namco x capcom for ps2 and when i put it in and the disk went to the error on the ps2 or it's broken because it won't let me play and how can i fix it

The problem is that it will go right back to it's default position, and I have no clue how to stop that from happening. Also, it has the infamous ticking noise that happens before the DRE pops up. Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I'm sending the thing into Sony.
hello there, i want to describe my problem, i got ps2 slim about 7 years, and when i bought it, after one week something happened to him, if i want to realese game i need to rotate ps2 or even lay it upside down , when game realeses everything is fine, only hard to realese it, its starts ticking'', and now i want to sell that ps2 but customers wont buy it with that issue, and i dont want to change lasser because it cost much in my country, do you know maybe some advices?

Okay apperantly some models' white gear is hidden by some plastic and needs a hexagonal screw to adjust.

the best advice i got from this was grease the bar. my laser would get stuck, some wd-40 and magic! perfect ps2 again. disk read error gone.

Also two more things to try the calibration wheel shouibe positioned at twelve o'clock and you can adjust the resistance under the laser eye

If you take off the laser there are two small dials for dvd and game laser gain that will fix the ps2.
i can now relive my childhood :)

You don't know how much early fats (v4-v7) are thrown out. I think I fixed about 10 of them out of 12 that I have.

Some models are different. I had to adjust mine with an allen wrench. The earlier models are like this one shown here.

Because it was smaller, didn't suffer disk read error, didn't have a loud ass fan and was cheaper to manufacture.

i finally fix my ps2 when i looked in it it was full of dust after i cleaned the dust out and clean the lens it worked

I bought mine 2nd hand and mine doesnt have a ribbon connecting the top half to lower half, do some models not have it or is mine missing?

The 5000 series was very quiet, the 3000 was very loud and is the most common one. I like the look of the fat better but they were un-reliable.
