    Rapidly changing my mind about large Toothpicks, that's a beauty loving the scales, not seen a wormgroove pattern before somewhat jealous Tobias, great addition to your collection.

    Love it! A really nice toothpick for your collection! I don't own a Schatt & Morgan, but hopefully will one day. It is my understanding that Gilbert Cooper -- who is somehow connected to Blue Grass Cutlery (Winchester, Primble) -- owns the S & M trademark and will go into production sometime this year in Winchester, Ohio. I believe the knives will be produced on the same equipment used by Queen. (This is what I've read on a couple of online knife forums.)

    I think you may be right Tobias. The fact that Case stopped making large toothpicks when Queen closed sounds too coincidental. Good thinking!

    That is a great looking large toothpick. I guess because I first heard Paddy mention Schatt and Morgan I thought it was a European maker. Nice to know it was PA. I had never heard of that steel. I assume it wasn't used a lot. Thanks for sharing this.

    Beautiful knife. It's a shame that so many American made knife companies have gone the way of the buffalo in the last twenty years. It's unfortunate but too many people cry and moan about wanting to buy high quality US made knives but don't support the companies who are making them. I'd love to see Case make a large toothpick again.

    The Schatt & Morgan trademark was purchased by Gilbert Cooper out of Winchester Ohio. He purchased all the old machines at the Queen factory bankruptcy sale. Starting this year, He's going to be producing Schatt & Morgan branded knives.

      Thanks. I was checking the trademark registry and it still had Daniels Family as the registrant. But you are correct, it lists the Coopers as last listed owner' I'm hearing now that they are going back in production for 2021. This is all good news.
      Here what the Trademark database lists:

    Thank you for sharing a really fine looking Toothpick; is there any difference when someone calls some toothpicks. Texas Toothpicks and some call them Arkansas Toothpicks? You see fixed blade Daggers called Arkansas Toothpicks too.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've always considered the Arkansas Toothpick a large doubled edged fixed blade knife, with a blade of around 10 inches in more. Texas Toothpick is a name Case seems to use and often applies to their small three inches (closed) toothpick. But yep, I've seen the large folding toothpicks called an Arkansas and Texas as well.

    I've always liked the Schatt & Morgan File and Wire large toothpick, partly because the blade is ATS 34, a superior steel to most toothpick steel, and partly because of the way it's tested. I always thought that was a little badass. I'm glad to hear you say it's such high quality. Usually the scales are a much darker brown color. I like the color of the one you have.

    • @KnifeChatswithTobias
      @KnifeChatswithTobias  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was looking into just what ATS-34. It's essentially the same as 154CM. Definitely nothing to sneeze at.

What is your opinion on the steel ATS-34? why don"t they use it anymore? maybe to costly? Another thank you for the nice video!

      Apparently, Blue Grass Cutlery in Ohio is going to be producing S&M in the USA, once again. Same for the Winchester Brand. Thanks. The File & Wire info came from an Old Knives Live TV show. Steve Koontz, used to spew out knife trivia and I was busy taking notes!

    The Schatt and Morgan's bolsters are just beautiful. Way nicer than the old Case 5 1/2 inch toothpick. It looks like quite a pocketful though. I really like the Case full size Copperlock (4 1/4 inch closed and 7 1/2 inch open) but it is simply itty-bitty in comparison with the Daddy Toorhpick. Your vudeo makes me want to try one even if it is a bit large in pocket. Thanks for sharing.
