    Some of these Dell laptops require a mounting bracket for the NVME drives. I'm glad this one does not. Thanks for the awesome video! :)

    Excellent video.
    I have the Latitude 3590 with just a 500G HDD and only 4GB of RAM. I had already ordered an upgrade for my RAM, and thanks to your video, I bought the exact same SSD for my laptop.
    Unlike your customer though, I want to keep the HDD along with Win 10 Pro, Office and other software I have already installed. I'd like to get your thoughts on my plan, and you can set me straight before I make mistakes or miss something that could trip me up.
    Steps I plan to do:
    1. Install SSD as shown in video.
    2. Restart laptop to make sure the 3590 recognizes the SSD.
    3. Format SSD. Regular NTFS format???
    4. Clone HDD to SSD using either Samsung Cloning software or 3rd party software recommended by Dell.
    5. Restart laptop, hitting F12 to get into the BIOS and set the start-up drive as the SDD.
    6. After confirming that everything is working, format HDD and use it for file storage.
    Does this all sound about right? I appreciate your input and guidance.

    • @fatgeek
      @fatgeek  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to format. Just load up Samsung data migration and let it do its thing. After it shuts down you will need to disconnect the hard drive so that it will boot to the SSD. You could also leave the hard drive in and force it to boot the ssd with the boot menu key. Then format the hard drive. Or if you have a usb hard drive adapter you could use that to connect the drive and reformat it.

      @@fatgeek Thanks again for all the info. I installed the 970 EVO Plus SSD, upgraded memory to 32GB and everything seemed to go well. I installed Samsung Data Migration to the HDD and it loads fine, detects both drives but when I click "Start" the clock runs but absolutely nothing transfers and it sits at 0% forever. I checked the driver for the SSD and Win10 says I have the most up-to-date driver. I formatted the SSD and it shows in Win Explorer. What am I missing? Is it because I have the Migration software installed on the source drive? Does it have to run from it's own drive (like a USB stick)?

      @@brianmumford2521 I have had that issue with antivirus blocking things, last time I had to disable norton and reinstall the samsung data transfer software. It's not an issue with the drive or other hardware.

    My work is considering buying several new latitudes to use as loans for visiting staff. Would you say the build quality on these are good? We're looking for a relatively sturdy device that will deal well with not being treated the best. Most don't tend to treat devices well. Our old devices are e5540s and they are like tanks.

    • @fatgeek
      @fatgeek  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the SATA drive is intact I would try a clean install of windows on the m.2 SSD. If that boots just fine then your clone software didn’t work properly and you can retry that.

    • @W1ldTangent

      Install the new device without removing the old one first, boot your original Windows, and format the NVMe drive, then clone, then swap. If you just clone to the new drive and try to start Windows, it won't have any drivers for NVMe devices.
