  • In the 90s, stars like Bhaichung Bhutia and I.M. Vijayan paved the way for a resurgence in the popularity of football. Now, in 2022, India has over 160 million football fans. We have the support. We have the talent. Together, VICE India and Budweiser India are discussing what India has to do next to improve her standing on the world stage.

    Spreading football culture among 130 crore indians can bring result that can change the Nation's fate. I am not just talking about the possibility of India qualifying for World cup one day. Football has potentiality to change minds. Football culture brings Happiness, harmony, Team spirit, Discipline... The list is not short. You and i know deep inside that Indian society , speaking generally, lacks many of this traits.
    I have seen the good effects of football in my two little brothers. I was never a good athlete nor was i interested in any sport. But i have good academic history .My brothers are good football player, the eldest of them is being trained from kerala blasters academy. Both of them are very poor in school studies.
    We represents two ends. The main difference is that they are better human beings than i am. They are good citizens than i am. They may not even know that, but it is a Truth the reason of which, i believe , is FOOTBALL.
    Thats what i am talking about, the healthy minds that football culture creates will be a setback to politicians who think they can win an election any day by spreading hatred. Now they have to talk real developments.
    You might have been thinking i overestimated the power of football . but i still stay it is MORE powerful than I think.
    I know nobody heeds, but to my complacent 😊

      True sports are indeed better teachers of life than lot of academic practices people do. It shapes peoples character alot more. And india definitely needs to promote sports like football which help in holistic development. No hate to cricket but personally it doesn't help in holistic development for children. As it's not a sport which requires teamwork and coordination like football and neither is it athletic and passionate and skillful like football. Thing is you have more room to be skillful and creative than you can ever be in cricket. In cricket you have to work like machines having the perfect technique while in football you can be more skillful imaginative and creative. And indians have a lot of that but aren't provided the right platform to show that. Football can be one way to express your skill and talent being imaginative. Its passionate, brings people together, helps in all around development, gives freedom to be skillful, helps express oneself, express your local community identity, helps building community, entertains people. And you get to show to the world how you are.

    Football is very important for Nation to spread soft Powers.
    Like look at Argentina. Very less people know about their country. They're not so famous. But just because they are good at football now everyone knows about them. And after winning world cup they're now most famous country in this world. With very strong "soft power "

    • @mtk3755
      @mtk3755 ปีที่แล้ว

      True but if we just think about spreading soft power then we are no different than china or arab and might not even succeed. When Argentina played good football they didn't had purpose of spreading soft power. They expressed themselves as they are and giving their all. It's imp for us to think in terms of expressing ourselves at the biggest stage giving a great spectacle to the football world what we can do and soft power will itself increase. Soft power from football is just the by product to the kind of football you play and how well you execute it at top level.

    • @mtk3755
      @mtk3755 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Like Brazil. They didn't think to spread soft power. Their joga bonito style is just them expressing their own self in pure form taken from their culture. If we also express ourselves in our unique way to the world and get results. We also have some soft power. Don't focus on that but focus on creating a vision and system to execute how we want to express ourselves on the world stage.

    What Indian players lack is experience on the field from a young age. Every player in major football playing countries, Mbappe, Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Van Dijk, Harry Kane all of them started playing tournaments at a very young age, as young as 6 and 8 years old, and have got good training for more years than the average Indian player. most of our kids only start playing serious football at ages 14 or 15, ages at which footballers in Europe and Latin America get contracts with junior teams of major clubs. what we need is more spending and scouting to find and develop talent from a very young age. we need to focus on improving football in our schools and set up training centres like the la Masia of spain and the Ajax institute of Netherlands.
