India celebrates cricket like it celebrates a festival. But when it comes to the game of football, it’s not the same. That doesn’t mean there are less football fans in India, no! India contributes a significant amount of viewership to international football tournaments being broadcasted live - then why is it that the Indian football team never makes it to the FIFA World Cup, one of the top football tournaments in the world.
In this video, we will try to answer this question by diving a bit deeper into the history of Indian football and the factors that affect the growth of football in India.

      Your argument makes no sense.
You see only 7 nations. There are 104 countries competing in cricket world cup and qualifiers in various Tiers like Tier-1, Tier-2 and Tier-3, members. A full member powerhouse nation like India cannot and will not play with countries like Brazil, Argentina. It does not make any sense. Every sport is a business. If it doesn't make business sense then why will anyone play with weaker teams. There would be no competition. Would you watch a match of Germany vs indonesia? I bet no one in Germany watches that match. Have you ever seen Brazil football team competing with China/ Chinese Taipei or Indian football team? Same way happens in football.
Even in football the competition is only among the top 7-10 teams even through there are 32 teams in world cup. Other teams are just for the sake of playing.
So stop this baseless argument that Cricket is only being played by 12 counties and Football 200 countries.
Everyone watches only top countries like Germany, Brazil, Argentina, etc as they have Star players.
It's the contest that makes a sport fun to watch whether it is Cricket or Football. No contest, no viewers. No viewers, no football/ cricket or any sport.

Indian football players of national team in current squad need international exposure also. ISL and other domestic tournaments will be just warm up matches. In ISL these players are just playing with Indian players mostly some foreign players but still thats just 10% in total. Most players in Fifa Wc are playing at club level in different league and have an exposure to other nation teams like Europe leauge, English league, italian, french etc. Indian national team just have the experience of Afc and Fifa qualifiers. Govt should invest more in Football. If the news that Ambani is buying Liverpool Fc or Arsenal becomes true then there is a chance Indian football will be recognised more outside. Hope to see India in Fifa Wc one day❤️⚽.

The problem with Indian football is the lack of available talent pool of players . People love watching football in here but out of them very few play football.
Even when few guys play football , the infrastructure is so bad that they don't know what to do next .
Basically in India you can pursue any sport only upto 15-16 , after that parents and teachers forces you to focus on studies .
There are small steps taken by our system (excluding aiff) to improve the quality of football in India like hosting FIFA u17 wc , appointing big coach like Igor stimac giving good training to u16-17 boys with quality opponents but we have not achieved anything remarkable on last 4-5 years . We are playing the same way as we played earlier .

I strongly admit that I too have a role alongside many other Indian football fans who doesn't really support India despite being a diehard fan of this sport. I admit my mistake of not watching Indian games that much as I watch every Barca games and Champions League games alongside supporing my idol Lionel Messi. I love Sunil Chettri a lot and I am really tensed about Indian football but first of all, I personally think that fans should turn up on occassions first. It's the support that matters. Indian football gets no support compared to the support Indian cricket gets. India has really good knowledge of this game but still in the FIFA Rankings we're 106th. This is utterly embarrasing. So my humble request to every Indians, please watch Indian games and support our peopleand those who aren't Football fans, they should also support Indian football instead of comparing "CRICKET VS FOOTBALL".

It's a paradox.. Indian football has no audience because quality of game is poor when compared to rest of the world and quality is poor because there is no investment in the sport.. There is no investment because there is barely any revenue because of no audience. And this cycle will continue.

Something very important I would like to share is that we Indians weren’t allowed to play cricket since it was considerably a royal sport and only the royal family or high officials could play. We were limited to football and hockey and we we excellent at it. My grandpa was an Anglo Indian who moved from Calcutta to Mumbai in the 50s he use to tell me about how talents the local talents were much better than any British officers stationed there. Mohan bagan vs East Yorkshire regiment was a fine example. I don’t want to hate or divide cricket vs football but it’s football that started the resistance against the British and we showed them that we can walk toe to toe with them. The golden days will come soon. I believe in our team jai hind

i wanted to become a professional football player as a kid (was around the age of 15) went to several u-17, u-19 trials, never made it into a single one, its not that i 100% deserved to be selected, i m sure there were players much better than me but with that being said the selection process is entirely corrupted, most of the officials with power take money from the player's parents so the player can advance through, the coaches or the organizers dont even bother to look at the games and the players playing the matches. its all politics and nothing else. i had to quit playing after getting the reality check.
