I wondered if they were the NEVERBORN... Branches, bone and water are mentioned… Were Crasters sons thrown into pools at Weirwoods and magically the bones of their bodies were mixed with branches and coated with watery ice. Then they’d emerge from the pools fully formed?
When I watch your live-streams and I am able to participate in the chat I try to interact with other folks in the chat and do what I can to be a support! Otherwise I watch your live-streams during dinner time as my way to relax after a busy work day!
Great stuff! ! I always love talking about the Others ❤️ And I guess the famous Pratchett quote "Elves are terrific. They beget terror" really heavily applies to GRRM's elves 😄 (although their blades are actually eerily similar to the blade on Death's scythe..) Will definitely hop in later for part 2!
Traditionaly banshee would not be evil, they are a typ of fae that watches over one specific family and cries and mourns when the death of someone from "their" family is approaching. They warn from death, but they do not cause it, they just mourn. Not sure how that turned into flying shedemon that hunts and screams you to death . . .
2:04:00 Maybe there’s a reason the Long Night felt like a generation long event If the World Book is correct, the seasons didn’t always lasts years back to back. Septon Barth and a Maester who’s name escapes me atm both suggest that the seasons use to just last months much like ours The Long Night was probably the FIRST Long Winter, which probably felt a lot longer when you consider that people usually store food and the like to last the only a couple of months, MAYBE half a year if they got the surplus. Can you imagine going through the first of these Long Winters without having experienced it before. The poor bastards who went through it probably expected a normal winter, then thought it was just an unusually long winter of the sort we probably experience in the real world, a half year or so, but spring will come soon, it has to, firmly in the denial stage at this point, before existential dread overcomes denial and they have to face the reality that it’s been years now and they have NO way of predicting when spring will finally come. Presumably humanity on Planetos learns that the seasons last years now, that this is the new normal, and adjust accordingly, but that first Long Winter when no one had any clue what was going on had to have been so traumatic to humanity as a whole that any memory of it got exaggerated to literal mythic proportions
when i read asoiaf for the first time i was 16 and the show had just started and i told all my friends that i could wait for the giant ice spiders to appear in the show when the others attack, most people told me that was stupid and that would never happen in the show :( (i hope they appear in the winds of winter thought, i still have hope)
Killing of the wrong ranger is great but it's your wild wolves theory that builds off of that one that is by far my favorite theory in the community. And I think you nailed it too. Waymar I'm convinced is a stark bastard.
Sorry I'm so late to the party this week man. But as always thank you for the content Matt and I'm happy to let you take me away from reality for the nonce. Cheers comrade.
I wonder if Williams meant for the part when they are being hunted by the pack of demonic dogs through the forest in Memory, Sorrow and Thorn to be a reference to The Wild Hunt.
Alysanne's dragon didn't want to pass the wall cause it instinctively new something very bad would happen. When Danny will try to go beyond the wall, her dragons will react that same way, but she'll force them to do it due to some very important to her reason like the 80'th sentinel that was promised taking his place at last, and the wall will immediately fall. How do you like them tinfoils?
Kingkiller chronicals got the most spot on portrail of fae, their nature, how the fae realm functions and all that I have encountered so fare! Can't say if that is universaly true, but it was the only one that gave me the same vibes as the folk tales I grew up with. I absolutly adore the a bit controvercial character, many dislike cause they are childish, ruthless, dangerous, of questionable morality, their actions of devotion and self sacrefice for someone, but endangering their life all the same making no sense . . . . and yeah, it does not seam to make sense with human morality and reason in mind, but for a fea? It is very spot on!
What about Sleipnir? An eight legged horse, Odin’s horse. Recall a Samwell chapter 18, ASOS the hoarfrost steed ridden by the Other? It has entrails hanging from its’ belly. Kind of looks like a spider. Agreed? It’s the first time we see an Other beyond the Prologue, AGOT. Consider next Yggdrasil from Old Norse mythology. Yggdrasill is "Odin's horse", meaning "gallows". This interpretation comes about because drasill means "horse" and Ygg(r) is one of Odin's many names. A horse and “gallows” exist in Gared’s story arc during the first two chapters of AGOT. In the Prologue we see Waymar’s horse. Remember the destrier that he tied securely to a low-hanging limb? That limb belonged to an ironwood tree. An ironwood tree, just like the stump in the next chapter, Bran 1, following the prologue. It’s the stump where Gared was beheaded. That “ Blackwood” stump would very much look like a spider if we visually included the roots. So we go from a black destrier to a black stump to the black destrier with entrails hanging out and hoarfrost. The evolution of a spider. The subtext seems to link them all. The spiders are Sleipnir for our Others, figuratively.
Like most, I'm expecting the Others to be more of a climate change stand in; especially with the magically enhanced role that the seasons & weather already play in the story…but I would still like for the Others to turn out to be the next step in Jon’s arc of ‘join a group that we are told are monsters, befriend them while realizing that they are more complicated than the bloodthirsty brutes he was warned about, and bring them together to fight a greater threat’…a part that could be played by the living-nukes across the waters, rearing to set the entire continent ablaze; because the weapons that we are willing to unleash upon one another out of fear of the other can be much scarier than the other we intend to use them against.
Would it be too weird to tattoo a ass waffle in a house shield?
Yes weird, but that doesn't make it a bad idea

this sounds very interessting, I like it ^^
Sounds like a plot in a Tolkien novel. Orcs?

On ice spiders, Odin has an 8 legged horse, Slepnir. I think it's another hint to point us back to the wild hunt.
happy new year matt. absolutely love these streams. SMASH THE LIKE
So glad i found your content! Fantastic work!
Great stream. Ordered my shirt and can't wait to see it. TY!
I got the shirt. It is awesome! TY Matt.

Great stream and looking forward for the continuation in a few weeks. This is a topic to big for one stream.

I'm wondering if the ice spiders are like a rat king of wights or even wights on direwolves or something.
How did it descend into ice dick territory? I couldn't stop laughing 😁⛸
If I look back I am lost.
you are either way. A tagaryen alone in the world is a terrible thing and you where alone from start until the end . . .
Love it

The horse with hanging entrails wouldn't look anything like a spider. The silhouettes are completely different.
