I was in the USAF 2002-2008 as an Iraqi translator. Opsec meant we didn't get the full picture of what was going on. So it's interesting all these years later to see what happened in more detail. Interesting on a personal level, but I want to be clear that I regret all the trauma and strife that have happened to the Iraqi people. Seeing this video brings me back to Najaf. I was deployed with the 3ID during all this, it was as absolute nightmare for a young barely 19 year old me. We saw constant combat for nearly two days straight, it was hell.
I served with the then LTCOL Dowdy when he was CO of 1/1 BLT, the GCE that was part of 11 MEU embarked on my ship, the USS PELELIU (LHA 5) back in 1999. Talked with him a few times, tough and resourceful. I was very surprised when I heard what happened to him during OIF. Word even reached those of us out to sea with the ATF.
I wish I had more capital to 'Patreon' a bunch of creators. For now the best you can do is to diversify onto other platforms. None of this will change unless there is real competition between platforms. Great work as usual!

I recommend you watch the mini-series Generation Kill. There is a book, but I haven't read that yet. Also, unfortunately, the vehicle getting stuck there wasn't in the show.

Until recently, I lived in a region of Catalunya called Garraf, and watching this video lead me to discover that the name actually comes from Arabic. Funny how these two places so far apart have virtually the same name with the same etymology.

The sand storm hit us around 15-1800, that night it was pitch black our night vision googles didn’t work even on ir, and our peq2a on high/high… the second day we finally got relieved by 3/7 cav
